Hello everyone! Today, I’m here to share my ongoing dilemma with Microsoft Windows-because, yes, I have a serious case of Stockholm Syndrome for their services.
Despite how far Linux has come, especially in gaming, there are still some situations where I find myself crawling back to Windows. But here’s the good news: Linux has made huge strides, and it’s now easier than ever to switch, game, and customize your PC exactly how you want.
In this video, I’ll dive into my experience with Linux, talk about why I still rely on Windows for certain tasks, and share some awesome resources to help you get started with Linux if you’re curious about making the switch.

My issues with Linux: Wine/Bottels/Steams's Proton/what-ever aren't built into the OS/distro/kernel/etc. so all I have to do is launch the EXE - and it just *works* . I get it, there needs to be a hurdle if one wants to truly change OSs, but then I might as well just stick to Windows and look through the web to find what files and settings I need to make it work better; something many have been doing for over a decade now. With Windows tho I can at least have all the EXEs, BATs and DLLs on a thumb-drive and just need to transfer them as needed.

@@CnCDune Linux isn't for everyone, and there is nothing wrong with windows. I think it's still a. Solid platform despite my frustrations. I just like consumer choice

@CnCDune if you use proton that comes with steam, it works perfectly fine. Only multi-player games are the ones you will run into issues with.

Windows is 1st for a reason. I used to lie to myself by thinking: "windows is just lucky and folks who use it are brainless." Windows is really good, that's why people use it, as a Debian user for more than 2 years and I still think that the stability of Windows and it's compatibility with existing hardware is really worth considering. Just few days ago, my BIOS refused to boot into Linux until I installed Windows and then booted into Linux SSD again, IDK what's in that BIOS that relates to Windows, but it is what it is. Things will change in the future, for sure.

I defiantly agree, Windows is very good. I recommend most people to just use windows but I want more diversity in the OS market. in the market which is why I push for Linux.

The thing about Windows is that you might as well use Apple if you just want things to be simple and work. If you want control and security, you might as well use Linux.

The issue with any Linux gaming is somebody is expected to develop the OS and make it compatible for free! that's why its always lags way behind and game developers and graphic card makers work together to make it work with Windows. They are not going to waste their time to also make the latest AAA games work with one of the many versions of Linux. Steam Deck is known Hardware, SteamOS currently only works with AMD graphics and AMD graphics is a small percentage of the PC gaming market.

@cam_934 While that is the case right now, we are seeing more developers and users push Linux. That's why the Levovo hand helds having an option for steam os is a big deal. While there is still things that are lagging behind, it is nowhere as bad as one would think. I think with a proper release of steam os, the user will, for the first time, have an easy option if they want to switch to another operating system

@@thespectral001 How will this help games that have already been released? I don't mean just games from 5yrs ago, but 10, 20 - basically, the real classic games from the 1990s & 2000s and beyond that defined their genre/franchise.

@@thespectral001 Handhelds are known Hardware designed to work with steam deck. SteamOS is going to work with SOME games on SOME Hardware, gamers are not going to put up with that.

I just have to say that SteamOS is Arch, indeed, yet it's not the same Arch you use. Just like how Android is Linux but not like any other Linuxes, same goes for NixOS, etc The point is: if you didn't build it yourself, you'll definitely run into problems. It's the same reason why I just reinstall my Debian whenever I f**k up my grub - starting from the start is easier than modifying an already existing setup/configuration/misconfiguration/etc. I heard "They're all just Linux" many many times in my life, while when I tried moving to Arch from Debian, I had to find the different names that Arch uses for a lot of my tools and had to find alternatives to those that are Debian-specific, learn the quircks of Pacman, etc We seem to not count the details - "the devil is in the details."
