In my utmost humble opinion. Mr Orr, I have no amount of words, to utter how much I appreciate the confirmation and validation I get every time I see a new upload from you. Your insights as well as ability to correctly portray the applicable skills pertained within the wing Chun curriculum is unmatched when it comes to depicting its efficacy as a complete system. Many neglect, and thus abstain to realize( and fail to implement) the amount of stand up clinching/ wrestling that is actually contained within the system as well, goes to show the similarity between the overall body mechanics when pertaining to what it actually means to fight. Over/ underhooks/( Fuk/Lok) duck unders/( third form last section) arm drags, back takes,takedown defense etc, sweeps, even basic submissions: guillotines/ keylocks/ rear naked chokes, are contained as principles within the system itself. It is beyond aggravating to witness the degradation of an martial art that can be deemed as highly capable, due to less experienced practitioners with flawed training methodologies and total lack of comprehension as to when/ how/ why, and even increasingly frustrating when same individuals go out and about claiming to be the utmost authority and ambassadors for an art they’re not able to properly represent but denies these obvious facts, challenge competent fighters from other capable systems, lose( quite poorly if I may add) and the rest of us gets lumped into the same category as those charlatans. So I truly can appreciate your frustration when said charlatans, come to your channel and preach far and wide that what you are doing is not “ wing Chun”? “It is impossible to make someone to observe and perceive, if they refuse to open their eyes, but even harder when they refuse to open their minds” Ego and high mindedness is the killer of all growth, again sincere appreciations for sharing with all of us. A joy to be able to learn from such an experienced peer as yourself. “ Wisdom is equal to correct comprehended knowledge, appropriately applied” “ Nothing more rewarding than getting ones thesis validated by those who exceeds oneself in excellence” Sincere regards Fellow martial artist and wing Chun brother. Tom Framnes. Norway.

Thanks for this great video! I love the aliveness of this training approach! This aliveness is something that is very much missing from most of the wing chun that I have trained, but you show how it can be introduced in a very straightforward way.

Excellent as always! The true Wing Chun which can be applied in the cage/streets, many people don't understand that Wing Chun is a conceptual martial art and it shouldn't look like in those fancy Kung Fu Movies! And you are the first Sifu who teaches that! Respect!

To help people visualise direct applications... The high block with loaded weight at 5:15 is what Holyfield advises against people who come in from the outside, like Mike Tyson. Also, quasi o soto gari at 8:30 , aikido arm&head control at 8:40 , Yi Long's upper body defence at 12:00 .

Great to see the examples with gloves on, I have sparred only a handful of times thus far and it feels strange with big gloves on. I have practiced doing the dummy form with gloves on and freestyle shadow boxing and dummy strking, and notice I can still hook my palm and use forearms, gan sau, elbows, etc. We are starting a free spar time at our wing chun school, I think it will help us all improve our skills. I need to keep on growing. PS, your partner sparring with socks on is tough, you slide around and is hard to quickly change direction.

Hi Alan at 0:20, you mentioned that the wing chun punch uses a vertical fist, however at 7:29, you were using a horizontal fist?
@alanorrwingchunacademy3 жыл бұрын
The basic punch in Wing Chun is a vertical fist, but wing chun as punches from all angles. The horizontal strike is seen in the third form. The way we strike is different to a boxing strike as we used a different power generation and different timing.
@iamaguywholikesmartialarts37313 жыл бұрын
@@alanorrwingchunacademy Oh I see. Would the horizontal fist still have the hip and elbow connection and be as powerful as a basic wing chun punch?
@MustAfaalik3 жыл бұрын
@@iamaguywholikesmartialarts3731 There is horizontal hook punch followed by uppercut in the Bil Jee form in the Mainland system. But the punch is more explosive/sharper in execution using Fajin.

5k Subscriber count? Why? You have evolved Wing Chun into being combatively focused once again. If anything, people should be taking your channel more seriously, more so than that blowhard Master Wong.

Why? Because he doesnt follow the formula to youtube success. Look at greg doucette, his early videos have little views but are the mostinformative. His later videos are still somewhat informative but are geared towards closing his ebooks and consults. Natty or not videos where people are judged whether they are using steroids or not, are considered fitness eye candy entertainment, because its like debating which superhero is better. Its all based on assumptions, yet this sort of “clickbait” attracts users to the channel and they can continue down the sales funnel. Not good or bad, but there is an undeniable process of commercialization that is required to make it big. Master wong comes off as a blowhard because he is confined in what the algorithm likes and generates him more views and thus more money. Like everything in life you need to know why you do what you do and where you want to get doing it. It takes an aweful lot of planning to make a successful youtube channel. Look at this specific video, how many things does the sifu touch on? He is teaching a lesson organically vs staying on a script. The lack of structure is interesting to an adhd squirrel like myself, but doesnt help the algorithm and also makes finding these videos organically more difficult. Why is that? He spoke about boxing and wing tsun as the title would have you believe, but the video could have been broken down into three further videos. External vs internal power, adapting chi sao to boxing, the significance of wing tsun in self defence and so on. Of course, its not so clear cut, but THATS my point. The algorithm loves clear cut. If you say key words from the title or description and the speech to text picks up on it youre golden. Think for a second how different this same video would look if 1. The background was clean, not necsarily solid white, but a forrest instead of a gym. 2. Was filmed withSteady and organized cuts, almost like a film, where a scene is shot according to a script/story board. Notice how the entire video is in one cut? 3. There was a way of engaging the audience and having some sort of call to action. Perhaps asking the viewer directly to comment about specifics, or linking another video of his or somebody else. Note i am NOT saying to repeat the usual “like comment subscribe”.You have to remember that youtube is a social network, sure it hosts videos, but the rating, comments and even other videos (of self and others) are EXTREMELY important as they are user engagement indicators, the algorithm loves comments, and whats interesting is that the ratio of comments to views is normally 1:1000, the better that ratio the more youre gonna get recommended. Youd have a completely different beast. Adjustments like outlined above would need incremental adjustments measuring what works and what doesnt. Much like weight training. Consantly adapting till the numbers change. There are plenty of examples on youtube of this process happening. However much like weight training there will be a drastic result which might not be what is desired! If these videos would change to what i describe, this initial raw learning will be perverted. To conclude, i wrote this out not to berate, but to hopefully help point out some ways which this channel could get the popularity it deserves as the content is great.
