Thankyou for kindly sharing a solid demonstration and an articulate explanation of what internal training is and that we still need the external. I like that you call them obvious skill and hidden skill, it's a very good way of putting it especially for a western mind. I'll be honest and say I went too far down the rabbit hole of internal training and becoming a bit woo woo after doing what I can describe as a very external system of Wing Chun. So naturally it made sense to learn the internal stuff. But now I've realised you need both as a whole for it to work to it's full potential. As you mentioned about Yin Yang early in the video, I think it's really important for any practitioner who's unaware to fully understand this important principle 🙏

Totally agree about the hypnotism thing and exploiting people. That is what certain others are doing. Always love the way you train. However, I do have some different opinions on the pedagogy, that people can learn quicker when you roll just under them sometimes or at least pass through that for a min or so. The inexperienced still need the visual as they integrate it into the body. Can confirm you are very controlled and although there is a sound, it's a soft impact. On that other person we are not naming, I bet you he has injured people. And internally in a very significant way too<-conjecture, yes, but I've seen him hurt people with my own eyes.

@@alanorrwingchunacademy1302 thing is, I see it as holding true even for intermediates, who are still relatively inexperienced. But you know, that's just my view, dude. Again, thanks for this series debunking them and their tricks. He also uses other methods from the stage and far too much NLP. Oh, please tell Robert that I was never impressed by the NLP stuff because it all derives from con artists and is, at heart, about how to manipulate people. I am not saying Robert learnt for those reasons or did that. What I'm saying is this person we can't name uses NLP too and all the rest.

With regards to the woo woo stuff, being one of the heavy critics of "chi bullshido" I've always said that the problem isn't "internal arts", it's not "chi use" nor "tai chi" itself, it's the specific claims of supposed abilities that don't comport with reality, every explaination you've shown in this series of videos was a true, sober explaination of how these skills are actually used! Great videos, more people should recognize how it actually works, common pseudo scientific super power claims hurt the reputation of kung fu, these videos have been a great service to chinese martial arts! well, there are things that are really hard to explain, in terms of the body effects over the receiver - people usually think that the hopping is fake, but there are some energies that are much worse, like An - press down, that makes one's center of mass go down - not only taichi guys, but many japanese arts and other chinese internal arts have that - once you touch the guy with such dantien (or whatever) control, you feel like a 1000 kg stone was put in your arms and you can't resist but fall to the ground.

Alan makes a good point. When he shows us the QUAN, his tan can become a wrist LOP and BONG can go underneath like the EAGLE CLAW. So many variations unlocked when we break it down. 2:10 I know what he means. About the snake. He’s talking about receiving energy. Letting him pass. Easing him in just to push him away or hit. That was really good. I think the idea was that we can’t just rely on pushing and pulling alone, that we’ve got to be able to communicate that pain and discomfort. Control, with hitting, but balance is taken out, and we move em around too. All those components have to flow. 😎🙏💯

No blocks, no techniques, no structures😎😎😎 Kung fu is a vibe, an idea without ideas. Harness the Chi flowing through the universe and the rest takes care of itself. Feel energy surge from the ground, through the dan tien, through the roof of the mouth, against the knuckles, then back through the skull against the pavement to return to the earth. Joking aside, there's generally a valid point being muddied in semantics. You're doing a great job demystifying these misconceptions.

Alan, I have a question that I seriously think could use a video. What place do you think the boxing/kickboxing "high guard" has in Wing Chun? When to initiate high guard, and when to avoid it? The reason I say this is because before I was trained in ANYTHING, I was in a bit of a street fight ganged up by some other kids. My default survival instinct was shelling up in very tight high guard, and I got off unscathed. I threw a lot less punches than I took, but nothing was hitting me clean. It's obviously not without its flaws and openings, but there's no denying that high guard has a valuable place in fights, even without gloves. What do you think?

In Wing Chun goal is to make a bridge contact. That's why in Chi Sao we don't release to cover the head, the bridge contact is the defense as such. It there is distance then one must cover the head. I will do a video on it.

Sifu Orr, I have a lot of respect for you because your a student of Sifu Robert Chu who I greatly admire and who also taught my first Wing Chun Sifu back in the late 80's when I studied with them. But I need to say something regarding this topic since in my Wing Chun Journey I was made aware of and discovered GM Yip Man's 3rd HK student, GM Chu Shong Tin. The internal skills he achieved were second to none, including GM Yip Man himself who gave him the honorific "King of Siu Nim Tau" as CST had surpassed GM Yip Man's own skills. None of the "internal" skills you have demonstrated here come even remotely close to what CST was capable of during his lifetime. Your demonstration of internal skills are very basic and representative of every branch of HK Wing Chun under students of GM Yip Man. CST's teaching, abilities and understanding of Wing Chun were completely different. I have seen hundreds of videos of GM CST himself as well as his students doing things no other branches of Wing Chun can. Some of his students like Sifu John Kaufman, Sifu Nima King, Sifu Marty Anderson, and others have a very different methodology for how they develop their unique internal engine to generate their specific power. Look up either John Kaufman, or Nima King through the Mindful Wing Chun channel here on YT or on the Marital Man channel on YT where you can see Nima King teaching seminars and being interviewed by Kierin aka, the Marital Man, and tell me that there is no such thing as internal Wing Chun or that what you and all the other branches of HK Wing Chun do is the same thing.

External Wing Chun = what moves you do. The technique you use as you punch, your precision and hand eye coordination Internal Wing Chun = How you move, the amount of your mass you can apply into each movement Both are important but don’t become a slave to either I have to say, I think your understanding of external is incredible, but I don’t think you know internal at all. I’ve trained with some of CST students and when they “turn it on” it’s like the pressure melts away and your touching in immovable post, you’re floating on your feet and any pressure you apply to them comes right back at you. That’s the best way I can explain it and when you look as a bystander you see no change other than the change in the other person right? So you explain it perfectly when you said “hidden skill” but I think it’s extremely difficult to quantify it and I only say that, because while you’re showing us here, I don’t notice the change in your partner that I’ve seen in others etc

@@alanorrwingchunacademy1302 you misunderstand, I am saying I don’t see the same quality in what you’re doing compared to how they do it. I think all your external stuff is top quality and among the best of WC Sifu’s, but I’m telling you you’re definitely not doing what they’re doing when it comes to “internal” I’m not saying it’s bad, just that you’re not doing it. So when it comes to “hidden skill” the visible change should be in your partner, that’s what makes it confusing for the onlooker, they seem to get moved effortlessly, you’re extremely good at demonstrating your control over their balance and which direction to push/pull etc, but you’re not doing what you think you’re doing

You are welcome to an opinion, but it does not mean it is correct or means anything. It is easy to demo on others that are not responding. We train live. I teach my students to internal counter pressures. If someone is tense to move them is easy. I train the guys will skills that can be done in real time, under real pressure. That's the benchmark for us. Most people can't see the skills I have, which is fine.
