The first fight we would not call a fight. We call it a friendly. Sometimes used for gang initiations. The problem with most martial arts is the thinking. The patterns and routines. In a real fight you don't have time for complicated moves and grips and all that. Because real fights don't last long. They are usually over in a few minutes. And the one who uses the KISS method usually comes out on top. Simple straight gross motor methods are most effective. Try and throw combinations instead of single punches. You punch or kick until the assailant blocks or duck. Then set up to repeat. Your offense shouldn't stop until the assailant stops you or blocks you. You should always have finish on your mind. Which is the guy is injured restrained or unconscious. Now this is where a little martial arts skills can be beneficial. Learning how to maximize punches and movements. Notice the distance between the two guys? The guy may not be close enough to hit you. But neither are you. The guy who knows how to master and manipulate distance is the guy who usually walks away. Most fights only last a few minutes. Although if you are on the receiving end of a beating it seems like a lifetime. Always own the first few minutes. Many years ago I was in prison. A cellblock bully kept threatening me. Five eight. A hundred and fifty pounds. This six two and two hundred and fifty pounds bully called me to a fight. The only way I was going to beat this prison yard weightlifter was for me to stall until I saw a guard in the cellblock tower. Then I came out my cell. And I owned the first few minutes whipping him down. By the time he recovered enough to start breaking me in half the prison guard arrived to break it up. Guys were talking how I whipped him. But no. I simply took advantage of the first few minutes. By using the guard to break us up. Trained or untrained in martial arts. Learn to manipulate distance and striking rang and you will be alright.

One of the main things untrained people lack are defensive skills. Untrained people will take too many strikes. So my advice is to learn defensive tactics like the Crazy Monkey defense. How to use the clinch defensively and how to move your head off center when punching.

I did a street fight breakdown years ago for my kinesiology degree here is the stats I came up with ?MOST FIGHTS END UP ON THE GROUND? %BREAK DOWN% 43% End with one or both on the ground. 57% End with no ground fighting at all. 98% Start standing. THESE %'s ARE FROM 1000 RANDOM KZbin CHANNEL STREET FIGHTS. FIGHT BREAKDOWNS BELOW. 43% END UP WITH ONE OR BOTH FIGHTERS ON THE GROUND AT SOME POINT. 20% Fight ends with both fighters in the ground from strikes. 9% Fight ends with both fighters on the ground and one stands up and ends fight with strikes. 6% Fight ends with both fighters on the ground with some type of choke. 5% Fight ends with one fighter getting thrown no strikes. 3% Fight ends with both fighters on the ground do to hold or lock. 57% END WITH STRIKES ONLY NO GROUND FIGHTING. 2% End with kick to the head. 20% End with standing wrestling and strikes. 5% End striking with no standing wrestling(when punch is a sucker punch 100% knock out). 30% End with standing strikes or by fight break up. NOTE: All girl fights had a punch and a hair grab takedown along with clothes being torn or pulled off, I believe girls/women do this intentionally in a fight to humiliate their opponent because the fight is usually because of a love triangle.

Thank you for what your doing, another great video. Question: I am a 52 year old wing tsun practioner. I have two boys 15 and 18. I have encouraged ( not forced, coerced, etc...) them to learn and engage in it however they have no interest. Any ideas ? In my opinion wing tsun helps out in all sorts of unexpected ways and places, I use my stance in the shower and while I do dishes.

I'm a wing chun guy in my early 20s and let me tell you Boys in my age group aren't interested in martial arts unless they could feel it could be useful i.e. for tournaments or if they are being bullied. I wouldn't try forcing it...most boys nowadays just want to do a hobby that makes them feel good. Let them have their life. We are in peaceful times for now.

Boxers don't target the head. Indeed with bare knuckle fighting they often avoided the head cos of damage to the hands. Many boxers are actually going for livershots, and the head is principally there to keep the defenders arms high. Look at Jeffries.. never stops talking about bodyshots.

Why do you think Wing Chun gets such a bad rap among most.martial.arts enthusiasts?
@joeoleary90104 ай бұрын
Because there are so few examples (on video) of people using WC in a fight or sparring and winning. They invariably lose, or all the WC techniques get thrown out the window and they start swinging wildly. Even Bruce Lee fought an amateur boxing match with WC when he was a teen in HK, and by his own admission, he barely won against a mediocre opponent. And so we just don't have a lot of hard evidence to point to where WC has performed well in sparring or combat.
@MustAfaalik4 ай бұрын
@@joeoleary9010 Like it was said that WC has to be merciless in its attack, while majority of students are passive & coupled with lack of pressure sparring negates the effective qualities of WC. One of the reasons JKD includes sparring. WC is clearly an effective self defence system in the streets when applied as it was meant to, but requires "Heart" as it must be merciless constant pressure at close quarters.
@inside_fighting4 ай бұрын
The approach is very different and for me as a non wing chun guy it feels awkward but when you find the right teacher, like Milos, you see its benefits
@MustAfaalik4 ай бұрын
@@inside_fighting The approach in WC is always to avoid direct confrontation/blocks & to use angles/deflection to initiate its short direct punches, or use arrow punches. At the end of the day, WC is a violent art that has to incorporate power with its strikes, and this comes with some level of internal training, just as you suggested CLF to compress its wild swings. Thank you for reply.
@MustAfaalik4 ай бұрын
@@UnjustVerdict I am well aware of that. It takes years of training & imagination to put WC into practice, and i have met the very few who can walk the talk. The result is one bad M F of a system to make you a legend in the streets.

@freierblick74974 ай бұрын
The problem of Wing Chun is the lack of sparring. Moreover, its stances do not give you the capability to create power. WC was constructed in the 17th century in Yongchun, therefore it has to be modernized for the purposes of nowadays.
