lol.first i never had a pissing match in my life sounds disgusting and if the flaws are not corrected they are far from redundant they are flaws all systems have them and should work to correct them wing chun is no different its not special it is a martial art made by man with all of man's imperfections so unless you can prove wing chun is a perfect system when learned the conversations would just go in circles, and if you didn't know i've practiced wing chum for many many moons competed with it so that allows me room to speak on its flaws

No....all martial arts are valid...apart from wing chun....its pure garbage...no decent real fighter in the world will tell you WC is a good style...its the worlds most least respected style...this guy is a much better striker than Izzo....but in fact the guy is a very average boxer....its just that Izzo is trying to use WC...it wont work on anyone except other WC men and drunks....Izzo is in fact ok....he can wrestle but he had wrestling and wrestling takedown defence to WC but still calls it "wing chun"...its not...once you mix martial arts you have then become an MMA man...(clue is in the title...mixed martial artist)

1fitkbox It is not the style that defeats an opponent, it is the practitioner. Just because you see an amateur boxer get beaten, how can you say boxing is a terrible style? In Wing Chun there is a center line & a core central line & Mr. Lyte Burly was correct in stating the obvious that we should be chasing the core central line. But just like many of us do at times we bury our heads in the sand & forget about " All the heavenly glory" by chasing after that one star.

“The issue I had with him was definitely the movement…” “…. It’s not that I can get inside, it’s that when I got inside he’s not here anymore.” The same basic lesson Bruce Lee learned about Wing Chun during his 1964 fight with Wong, Jack Man. This is what motivated him to experiment with what would become Jeet Kune Do.

I know this guy isn't a fan of Master Bruce Lee, but look what is happening. He is going through the same process as Master Lee. Bruce used Wing Chun as his core then built upon it. The whole heel up to improve speed/power and hip use in the punch was an immediate improvement he incorporated into his punching. He also learned it takes a lot longer then a few seconds to take someone out, especially if you are using Wing Chun's traditional punches. Those punches just don't have the hip and ground up power you find in boxing.

Everything has holes in it. Even special forces guys zig when they should of zagged and get hit with bullets from local goat farmers. To think there is one complete style is just silly. When it comes to trading hands Boxing in the king. in close footwork, again boxing is really good. Take Renzo Gracie and put him in a boxing match with a 19 year old amateur boxer and he would have his hands full. Put Mayweather in a BJJ match and white belt would have a chance in beating him. Combat is mastered in the mind and breaking you opponents rhythm is the key to landing shots. look at Junior Dos Santos and Nick Diaz. They are total packages BJJ and very good Boxers. Lyte Burly's method is once again different then my local boxing club. The key is not laying on the sofa. Once you get good at being lazy good luck breaking that rhythm!!! Train and have fun never stop learning!!!

What a shit that i read here !!! IT`S THE FIGHTER, NOT THE STYLE ! A boxer can sucks, a TKD fighter can sucks, a mma fighter can sucks a.s.o. Not the style is dangerous, it`s the human ! If you understood the principles of what you are doing than it depends on you HOW GOOD you can realise that in the practice ! It`s doesnt matter if you have knowledge in ground attack, grappling, kicking, punching. If your opponent feel confident in what he are doing he can knock you out in a second. One punch, with 20-30% power in the right body part (vital point) and it`s over. And you have trained 30 years ! Remember, respect your opponent, not the style !

"IT`S THE FIGHTER, NOT THE STYLE". I can see why people believed that prior to UFC/Vale Tudo, but its been obvious for over 20 years that there are better systems. The best skill sets for sport fighting in a cage aren't necessarily the same best skill sets required for street combatives but I don't care how much of a hardass you are or how dedicated your training regimen, being a master of an ornamental martial art is not going to help you out against someone who practices the basics against a resisting opponent.

+Andrew Boreliz Respect. To walk away from unnecessary fight/conflict is a wisdom, not cowardice. At the end our worst enemy is our own ego, pride and fear. (Of course, necessary fight is different, e.g. saving your love one) In Traditional Chinese, Martial Arts is written as 武術. The main word 武(Roughly translated as Martial), is combination of 止(Stop) and 戈(War/Fight/Conflict/Weapon). This, is also the main concept of Sun Tzu (孫子), Arts of War. A military strategy books written in ancient China and have the honour of being studied in West Point military school, etc and applied in business... (Fun Fact: Bruce Lee "Be Water" speech is combination of Sun Tzu, while his "abandon form" theory mainly comes from Lao Tzu老子 (Dao De Ching 道德經)

Yeah, that's how some people learn. They won't learn it any other way... Especially as they get older and more experienced... they start believing in their own greatness... and that's when they stop learning. Hence, that's why Bruce Lee always consider himself a student/teacher. Always a student although he is a teacher. Bruce Lee is truly inspirational.

After years of deliberation, I have boiled martial arts down to what I believe to be the most succinct definition possible: to attack your opponents' most readily available target of opportunity with the most powerful attack you have at your disposal. Combat is fluid, and of all the skills a warrior could possibly possess, adaptability is the most important one. No one style always trumps another, etc., because every situation is different. The only thing anyone can really do is be continually committed to learning and training, ( like this guy seems to be ) and if a situation ever actually arises where you need to defend yourself, you might actually be able to.

I agree with adaptability. I would also ad however that a dog only has one weapon and it works. Mike Tyson can't beat everybody but he can definitely rely on his weapon. Have many tools yes , but be sure one of your tools is a weapon. That's Solid Self Defense.

***** lol a guitar is very complicated to learn my friend. If wing chin is complicated to learn then it won't be effected when ANS takes over autonomic nervous system . Your heart will beat at 175 beats per minute and your fine motor skills are out the window. You wouldn't be able to tie your shoe laces are put a key in a key hole. Not like a comfortable setting with friendly scenarios as seen here. Battle tested is extremely important when choosing a combat method. I won't use the word fight because if you look the word fight in the dictionary it means to struggle with some one or something.

***** I am familiar with wing chun I studied the lineage of Grandmaster William chun . I have studied Thirteen disciplines and own a boxing gym where I allow all types of sparring matches to take place. The arts with complexed moves do very poor against brutal sports. Jkd guys do terrible against experienced muay thai guy. Wing chun guys have done poor against experienced boxers. Take kwon do guys have done terrible against my boxers. There were somethings in wing chun that helped me with boxing. But without brutal training at some point in your life its all just moves. Grant it if you stay brutal for too long you can become punch drunk or worst. But I recommend to at least train that way for a couple of years minimum.

I respect both arts. Just wondering if any kicks were used? A sik mah (Eat Horse) will demobilize his footwork, so you don't have to chase too much. Kicks has more reach. I was taught to side step and find a new center line (Which he explained is 3 dimensional) This is just from my observation. I like how illusive 52 block is. There's a lot of deceptive movements that doesn't telegraph attacks.

What a great video explaining the nightmare that gaining connectivity boxing presents. Having silats circling helps. I like wing chun and silat as a combination art and it still doesn't plug all the wholes. Your wrestling I can see giving you greater flexibility as well. I have an ik jutsu back ground which really isn't wrestling. Its kind of trapping range grappling.

"I enjoy both systems of martial arts, 52 Blocks & Wing Chun alike. Both have a way to strike and both have a way to counter; everything has an opposite. Each system is equally as respectable/dangerous. What determines a win is wether or not the fighter is an authentic warrior who overstands the craft of life. Nothing but respect for you to be so open minded and to not only share knowledge with this man but then to put it up for all to see and make up their own minds. Most Instructors would just circle their wagons , claim to have the answer to every situation and refute any other approach. In my opinion this what separates a Master from a Teacher. A Master only passes on what they do, a Teacher passes on whatever they believe will make their students become the best they can be regardless of how it may reflect on them. They set their own egos aside and say "Check this out..it may be different than what I have shown you, but if if makes you better then you should try it."

Lyte Burly just explained the same way Bruce Lee explained Jeet kune do.52 Blocks is Jeet kune do without kicks. I can be wrong about this senario but Jeet kune do is mixed with Wing Chun and kick boxing,Even Bruce himself knew that Wing Chun is worthless against 52 blocks or any Martial arts with boxing preferences Mauy Thai etcetera!

@@oldschoolmuzzey Sorry for getting this response a year late but I have seen many Wing Chun videos here on KZbin and I have seen other fighting systems and I try to compare wing Chun to other martial arts and Wing Chun in MY OPINION is in the bottom of the barrel because you might have lightning speed hands in a fighting but you are fighting against a person who has no fighting technique but has been in a fight and won and lost some when it comes to Wing Chun,BUT if you're a Wing Chun fighter and you're against let's say Mike Tyson you would be demolished because his style of fighting has power,Wing Chun doesn't!

@Sandland113 i have a different view of Wing Chun, i agree it lacks power and range lacks grappling , I think it was originally a bladed fighting system for knife fighting , because the lack of power and close range however with two knives and it’s almost like Kali/ Escrima . thanks for your reply, i don’t have any evidence that Wing Chun was at one time a weapon system

JKD is less reliant on blocks and more reliant on lead hand and lead leg strikes. It's more about interception by attack than defense by block. Granted, JKD also relies on boxing style movements, similar to 52 Blocks, but strategy-wise, it has more in common with Savate and fencing, where 52 blocks has more in common with western boxing and hand techniques of Silat.

As a wing chun guy myself, I really enjoyed the video. My problem is that I learn changing the angle and FOLLOWING the center. If I move forward and a defender moves to the side or back I change my angle and continue to to attack the center, because if my opponent moves, center moves follow and continue to attack center until they hit the ground. I personally think footwork is the most important part of wing chun. That being said, I really enjoy the idea of bringing in other styles, practitioners to help improve your wing chun. Thanks for sharing!

this advice is what they world of real FIGHTERS has been trying to tell WC men for decades...they dont listen and they dont need to change because they never fight or even spar hard..if they did theyd have evolved just like this man did...we all end up fighting the same at toplevel...while learning we try all sorts of stupid techniques...theres a reason why in MMA they all fight the same, they allstrike just like this striker...western boxing punches, hard shin kicks , thai sttles knees, bjjor wrestling..Izzo can grapple...its sounds like he needs to spar hard & long stand up & hel use what we all use and dump the WC garbage

Izzo Tactical Combat Martial Arts dont get me wrong tho...I actually think youve got more idea than 99% of other WC men...with your grappling background...and at least your open minded to knew techniques and exchanging techniques...the first martial arts ever were in the fertilte cresent, north Africa , Nubian...ku ta...defender of the pharoahs...The Xia dynasty the first rulers of china...were black Africans who traveled thru Persia...taking Nubian fighting arts with them...this later spread thru Asia ..Chinese kungfu later came from it...from Heirogyphics..we can see Ku ta used exactly the same techniques as what modern MMA use, same submission grappling & punches, ridge hands, palm heel strikes..so the first styles in the world...and later pankration ect that spartons and Alexanders arny used...WAS just like modern MMA techniques..thats the way MA were ment to be..any style that fights properly..will fight like this eventually...styles like WC that never fight..never need to know how ineffective it is

Great build! Very good break down of the traditional 52 Blocks "kickstand balance." Another one he didn't mention is the "moon-glide balance" I learned years ago. It still requires that same fundamental heel-toe type of stance, but it allows one the ability to glide into throwing a block or punch. The gliding motion allows for more timing and thrusting power to your punches. When seen in action it looks like someone dancing doing the moon-walk coming in close range striking their opponent...lol. Its a really comical but violent technique in allowing one entry to an opponent's center space for attacks.

As a karate man, i learned from training with a kajukenbo master that my way is not the only way. I gotta say i've got loads of respect for Sifu Izzo for one simple reason: he's not afraid to address and analyze his weaknesses. If you can only see and talk about your strengths, you're still a narrow-minded beginner, regardless how long you've been training. This gentleman has reached the point where he asks questions that challenge one's ego and pre-conceived notions. Would that we all had this mindset. Again, much respect from a karate man.
