I learned how to foil on a wing foil. So it’s not “impossible”. I actually preferred it because I was in control. But the progression may have been faster if I foiled before. I mention this because not everyone has access to a speedboat but that shouldn’t stop people from jumping into the sport.

Awesome JakeDawg, I've heard the same from a few people. Flat water and adequate wind is key. -Tucker

Is it possible to use a wing with a wakeboard as well?
@MACkiteboarding10 ай бұрын
I suppose in super high winds possibly but not very practical.

One question do this is too much strain to hands per session when you get your hands up like that all the time

Any more than an hour gets pretty taxing on your arms Petar. I use a harness line for support when cruising and I can ride indefinitely with that method. -Tucker

It's discouraging to hear that it's pretty much impossible to learn without a boat. I hope that's not true because I just spent a lot of money on a board, wing, and foil.

To share another perspective I do think it's possible. Our rider Kristen just learned on a 6 foot moon buddy in Hatteras. Her second session on a wing she was getting small rides on the foil. Check out slingshots foil academy. It's based on kite but I see no reason one couldn't apply those lessons to the wing. Cheers! - Rygo

Cole, great video. One small comment, try to keep you tack and jib terminology straight. It is important for newbies to use the correct terms since these are quite different ways to turn around.

No one cares about the terminology except you..,.just the skills.

I remember the first time I saw a power kite. The wind was howling and these kids (teens) were just boosting off sand dunes and having so much fun. Then kitesurfing, wow did that look exciting and fun. These wings look anoying and stupid. I guess they may be fun, but paddling out with that thing flapping around your legs? Ugh. Imagine doing that when it's 20mph on shore with waves. And as you struggle to paddle a foil board with the foil unside down to get out of the shallows, you fall off the board and it washes behind you into your new wing and rips it to shreds? Then some guy on a twin tip and 12m kite just zooms past and boosts a jump. And eventually when you do get out past the waves and into the chop, you kneel on the board and fall off. And when you finally get up and get going your arms hurt like hell because we're just normal people with normal arms and doing 1 pull-up is hard work.

Hahaha, Understand your perspective MrMonkeboy. The main benefit of wing foiling is that you have a lot more freedom since you are not tied to lines and keeping the kite aloft. Not to mention re-launch. This is especially fun in the waves. You can also set up and ride in a lot of sports that are too small or congested for kiteboarding. Each of our wind sports has its positives and negatives. Personally, I have loved the new challenge and really enjoying wing foiling. In flatware, I'd say the experience is similar to kiteboard foiling but you really take advantage of the wing when you are riding waves. Feels much more like surf foiling than kite foiling in that situation. -Tucker

Bear Lemley Each to their own my friend. I’m not winging myself. Honestly just love kiteing way to much to ever learn another sport. I guess it makes a lot of people happy so I can get down with that. Cheers - Rygo
