This is what I love about Wing Chun, being relax will not make you lose breath or air a lot and will not drain the stamina so fast..

From all the videos I've watched this is the first video of a guy who doesn't call himself Sifu and also the first video where I would call the instructor Sifu. Kudos!

I tried it with my friend and we were impressed by the pushing strength you can produce by relaxing and just rotating your joint...dunno if we were doing it right but it seemed to work.

this is great; many wing chun teachers talk about relaxation, but few of them are able to teach the scientific explanation behind the need for relaxing. Also, insights on spine, joints, and muscular structure are invaluable..... Tony, would you post longer, more detailed videos? thanks :)

thats probably what you spend a lifetime trying to practise :) Truth is you'll probably never fully relax.. fighting by its nature is stressful.. but if you can condition yourself to relax as much as possible it really does help especially with (as he points out) joint rotation and distributing more of your body's weight into the assailant. Its one concept in a dozen that wing chun tries to use as much as possible.. contact reflex, speed, relaxtion, advancing, shifting, stepping etc.. :)

This is very well explained. I'm not sure however, if I could relax completely when being attacked. Is it possible?

Wing Chun is a front on and close bodyline fighting style hence relaxation works. In this type of fighting techniques you are using the force of opponents attack against them. Although the relaxation technique works in wing chun because it doesn't allow opponents to apply force against a relaxed muscle and gives you enough time and space that you can counter attack or reflect it back to your opponent. As Bruce Lee says, be like water my friend.. but Anthony is exaggerating and faking it. :D

great lesson, but how to transfer the weight if you're skinny?
@ReceivingLightweb
@ReceivingLightweb 8 жыл бұрын
+Siniša Petrović even if you are skinny, let's say you are 80 pounds, at 80 pounds as a full adult that is extremely skeleton skinny. However, over time you learn to punch , pull and push, with the stance backing you up, and eventually everything you are doing has your weight behind it and the earth, so everything is going to be 80pound of your weight behind everything you do, and if you have good footwork and stance, you can actually double this by pushing off the earth, using the ground force and getting up up to 160 pounds or more behind anything you do, at a masters level.
