I now need a story where a cyberpunk character time travels to a medieval setting, and it’s even weirder for them than it would be for us, because they don’t even have a grasp of technology yet

how does he not know technology if HE IS PART OF TECHNOLOGY EVERWHERE

@@mikoartz5006 they're talking about the medieval ppl not having a grasp of technology, not about the cyberpunk dude

Or they sort of do. Middle ages are a thousand years and also a variety of civilizations. I don't dare say that Byzantia (west Romans) or XV century Germany and Italy "don't have a grasp of technology". Like seriously.

I meant like electricity and computers and stuff. If a character said “I used a time machine” they’d still be like “???”

Some more good tips for character design! • reuse colors throughout your character to create unity within the design, it’ll make it much easier to redraw and much more memorable and recognizable • pay attention to shape language! a good example is the design for Jinx from the show Arcane, who has ‚X‘ throughout her design which tells the viewer about her personality. larger shapes communicate personality to, for example pointier shapes often is used for villains or spunky characters while rounder shapes are often for softer and calmer characters. it can also be good to play around with the irony of these shapes, for example making a character with softer shapes be feisty and aggressive • make it recognizable!! a sign of a successful character design is if the character can be conveyed through a couple colors and shapes, for example round glasses and a lightning bolt for Harry Potter or a round head with a blue arrow for Aang from Avatar. these are symbols and shapes that can be easier recognized. play around with the size and shapes of clothing, a character almost always looks more interesting with oversized details like zippers and boots and jackets. these details usually make the design much more fun to draw and much easier to convey since they’re so obvious to see • show, don’t tell!! this is always very tricky, but incorporate details of the character‘s interests, hobbies, and past experiences into their designs. to reference Arcane again, they did an excellent job with this. Vi has short hair, tattoos from prison, cuts on her face, muscles, and tape wrapped around her hands, all telling the viewer that she is very experienced in fights and not to be messed with. Viktor has a back brace and cane but also carries books, often has robotic tools or limbs, and is dressed in refined clothes, showing the viewer he works with machinery yet is struggling with an illness. Jinx has braids, bright colors, painted nails, ripped pants, and a belt with a gun, showing the viewer how she still acts like a kid however gets in a lot of trouble and is experienced with a gun. this is an incredibly long tip but so very important!!! a design of a character in a dress might look very nice, but its vital to add a detail or two to present the character‘s aura and history hope this helps!!

i believe that anything can be added to a design, if you have a reason for it. seeing a cyberpunk character in a medieval setting would raise a lot of questions, all of which could lead to some very interesting stories :D

For the story I'm making I have a similar issue but it's backwards as their was advanced technology when humans were still around but their all gone in the story leaving their creations to their own devices but making them rusty and old

Less is more very much applies for color palates, always limit our colors because too many colors will feel out of place so if you want the eye look or something to be unnatural or unique then try to include that same color somewhere else in the design like the trim on a skirt or shirt something to make that color feel like it has a place in the design

what should be the canvas size or resolution or anything so that the canvas doesn't get pixelated when zoomed in. and m not talking about too much zoom. I tried increasing dpi but it made the file heavy and it was very hard to draw
@cryingwatercolours2 жыл бұрын
Don’t zoom on your canvas. Try as much as possible to stay zoomed out. I personally use roughly 2000x2000 pixels with probably just under 200dpi. When you zoom in on anything it will look pixelated but if you stay zoomed out and use a good size canvas thee shouldn’t be as many issues. Obviously zoom in for details but not too much and zoom out often, as most people won’t see those details if they’re too small Hope this helps at all
