Same rule with cartoons. Do whatever you want with cartoons, but realism can't be changed; what you draw it with can but not what it looks like as a whole. This is the main reason cartoonists don't jump to drawing cartoons, they draw realism until they're good at it, cuz all cartoons are an exaggerated form of realism

My personal method for getting arms to not be too long or too short... Hold on to your butts. The arms should be long enough to grab their own butt, but not so long that they need raise their hands up to their butt. This roughly corelates to the 1/3 down the thigh, but also has the humorous image of whatever character being drawn grabbing their butt.

Been watching a few of your videos and gotta say I love them! They motivated me to start drawing again And I also love how while your advice is "Don't draw this or that" you also explain WHY and what to do instead/how to make it better Oftentimes lecture videos like these are only "Don't do this, that's bad" but don't offer a proper/correct alternative and reasoning as to WHY I really enjoy these videos and I'll surely stick around for more!

I've subbed to a few art tutorial channels for a singular video of theirs before, but never has a channel been so consistently helpful as yours. I love these videos because they fill in the gaps and also makes me feel good about what I do know. Like, the proportion of like the arms was hard wired in me because I noticed it on me and similar for hand size but I've never noticed the foot thing! Also, thank you so much, I finally have an actual, y'know, understanding of why exactly the line of action is a thing. I'm gonna try and implement these things as best I can 😊

The portions and rotation of the arms make it so much easier to think about in a thought process of tweening! I never thought of that some how!

I like to draw dynamic comic book figures, and quickly learned that wooden dolls are far too stiff and limited for the kinds of poses I wanted (not to mention their proportions are too "realistic" and lack the more stylistically exaggerated proportions I prefer to work with), so instead of wasting money on those, I got some lightweight modeling putty, heavy duty wire and made my own dynamic, highly poseable figures for drawing. Pro tip for anyone wanting to do that, avoid making figures with large, rigid structures - build them with as many separations and rotational points as you can without losing structural integrity. For example, the torso of a wood doll is just one semi-rectangular chunk of wood, but the torso of my putty figure has five separate segments that have slight gaps in between to more accurately reflect how the spine, chest and abdomen areas stretch and compress with each other. I'd also suggest placing the wire where in the figure where the actual spine would be in order for the figure to bend, curl and rotate around that anatomical structure more realistically.

A thing that I struggle with the most as an artis trying to make my early sketches perfect. Take drawing a simple face I try to draw realistically But I end up erasing and erasing . It's honestly so hard in artists especially when you want it to be your career Feels like everything and every little sketch I make needs to be perfect. If anyone has tips on how to make art fun again and try not to see it as just something to be good at And to flex another people. That would be great So any tips please give them whether it be for mental health or art. Also I love your videos so much they make me want to start drawing again.

I have an idea, I am going to create a canvas of only arms, another one with feet, legs, heads, torsos, hands, etc. And every time I have to make a pose, I am going to open each of those as layers and select and move around the one I want and put them all together like a puzzle and create the perfect pose xD

My hand reaches about just over my chin, to just above my eyebrows; I think this makes it about about two-thirds the full length of my head. My foot is actually about 3/4 the length of my forearm. My WRISTS stop about where my groin is, if my arms hang straight down.
