“arse end” also known as empennage: From the Interweb: “The empennage is the name given to the entire tail section of the aircraft, including both the horizontal and vertical stabilizers, the rudder and the elevator. As a combined unit, it works identically to the feather on the arrow, helping guide the aircraft to its destination.”

The Wing Nuts kits do look fantastic, but I really do not think that I would pay the amount of money being demanded by the people selling them on Flea-Bay. I looked today and they wanted almost £100.00 for the cheapest of the kits, and went to almost £150.00 for a kit. This is just silly money. If I could get one at the cost that you got one at, I might buy one, but I will not throw my money away. I think that Wing Nuts should perhaps sell their moulds and re-box at a cheaper price to allow for the potential reduction in quality that might occur. I actually think that the moulds would be fine for a lot more production of kits than has already happened. They must be of a very high quality to start with and I think they would last a very long time indeed. Just my 2 Pence worth and of course, others will have a different view and that is just fine, we are all individuals. Can't wait to see how it all goes and just wanted to say thank you for this video and the other videos too. Have fun, Joe

G'day Harry, These are beautiful kits I have the Sopwith Snipe and the problem for me was the fact that I put a lot of effort and detail ,..not only in the cockpit ,but below the floor ,......it looks fantastic ,but you cant see most of it , lol But the best part of these kits is the pleasure of owning something of QUALITY …..not seen much nowerdays … which is why I been building a couple of the DeAgostini 1/8 cars …(Mustang and the Delorian from back to the future) ……...Yes , Good to own quality …...Ron

Not all have lots of Rigging... Sure a Felixstowe would send you to the lunatic asylum, but the Fokker D.VII has hardly any, also the Roland C.II. At this scale it's a lot easier to get your hands in between the wings and run the lines. I will do a tutorial on rigging the W.12, not that there is much to do, when I get to that stage. Ezy-Line is the solution!

I'm fortunate to have two Wingnut kits in my stash (Sopwith Pup and Pfalz D.IIIa), but I haven't built them yet. Yes, the kits are expensive but they're also a great value. I remember the first time I looked at one of the instruction manuals and thinking how much time and money it would have taken if I had to assemble all of that information on my own. (Windsock Data Files don't come exactly cheap either, and you might be able to round up enough pictures by haunting and begging at various modeller forums, but that would take a lot of time and time, as they say, is money, too.) One thing you didn't mention about Wingnut that I feel should be mentioned is the quality of their website with downloadable instruction manuals and pictures of everything in the kit, completed models, etc., well, it's the kind of thing we wish all manufacturers would do but it's not likely to happen. Keep up the good work, Harry!

Two Albatros and one Fokker D.VII so far, eager to get my dirty mittens on a Sopwith Camel or two as anything larger cost a kidney and whatnot! That Hansa Brandenburg W.12 looks interesting, I think that Sweden (the old country) had a few, but....I need to check what version though, I'm not sure that it was the the W.12! Richard Alexander the leads the team is a modeler himself and was at Modelcrafts and Hobbies in Wellington for quite a while so his modeling passion has gone into these as well which i think is why Peter chose him, he is a nice guy as well and good to talk to at model shows. he would have been the one saying how would i like the instructions to be to make it clear and easy so him and peter together are a good match for this and thats what i think makes them great. would love to see some WW1 armor from them as well, and it wouldn't surprise me if we saw a Lancaster after they have done The Dam Busters Movie, that would be a lit and a half.

Are they worth it? If you’re looking for bargain kits (barring occasional good luck): No. if you’re looking for extraordinary WWI model aircraft kits: Yes. As I have not yet had the occasional good luck in bargain shopping, I’ve paid far more for each of my 7 WNW kits than I would ever have spent on any other kit from any other manufacturer. And I don’t regret it for a moment. 😊

Like that last statement I too have a couple of these amazing kits in the stash, The Hansa Monoplane and Fokker DVII (Alb), and I just can bring myself to build them, simply because I love, and therefore don’t want to spoil, the in-box experience! Being a graphic designer I so want to work with these guys, the attention to detail and the atmosphere their package creates is unique in this hobby. I was shocked (and to be honest quietly delighted - well I am a Scot) to see the Hansa for sale for $900 on ebay! Boy first World War problems or what. In short I’m so going to enjoy your build of this because you’ll go through my pain barrier for me! Good on you Harry, let’s see how you get on. David aka MC.

Meng has now released the prototype of the Wingnut Wings Dr.I designed just before WNW shut it doors during the plague. I made a review video of that kit and found the parts very much like a Wingnut Wings kit, as they are from the N.Z. CAD design, but the packaging and instructions were nothing like the quality of a WNW kit… and that is half the experience. Luckily, it was half the price.

My thoughts. Fortunately for WNW, the average 1914-1918 scout size finds itself most amenable to this scale generally. WNW are undeniably dream kits, but other than perhaps the one off, not for even the average to keen lifetime plastic modeller unless both a zealous aficionado and enthralled with the 1914-1918 period focus. Definitely niche. I favour 1/48th scale generally in aircraft, and Eduard's rendition of First World War subjects generally still meets my criteria at every level, from the compromise of display presence vs display & storage space size, through detail, but most importantly, price. But in 2019, price in particular, and availability of WNW kits are a problem for me. I very nearly nearly dipped my feet in the WNW water to buy my first WNW kit back when they were direct marketed out of NZ including postage even though favouring the US market with trading in USD and all inclusive postage. But sleeping on it, as fate would have it a few days prior to pressing the buy button, WNW jacked up their price and added a separate inflated single set rate p&p again favouring the US market. To add ultimate insult to injury, they were now out of stock on the kit I actually wanted. Now in 2019, the whole distribution, availability and pricing model ensures they'll be a very niche buyer kits AFAIC. I do appreciate them for what they are, but they're simply too pricey to tempt me to consider them given the many, many equally appealing far better value to me air, armour, marine or figurine alternatives and other interests that stretch my modelling and leisure budget $$$ *a lot* further.

Meng tried it, with poor quality control, very cheap instructions and presentation. Took the shine off what could have been a fine Dr.I kit. As it was, Peter Jackson was losing money on most kits due to all the extensive research and expensive design process he asked to be done for each model. Who knows if the original moulds will ever be sold on. Or the stockpiled kits released to the market.

The first appearance of the shekel was in ancient Mesopotamia in 3000 BC. The name shekel was based on the Akkadian she, which was the early name for barley. Barley was used as the original medium of weight-and the shekel was equal in weight to 180 grains of barley, or around 11 grams.

because this is an Internationl platform and it would be pointless to say dollars, when I mean Aussie dollars, I instead use the fictitious Shekel as a way to compare prices in simple numbers... I paid 5 shekels, retail price was 15 shekels, but scalp price on eBay is as much as 30 shekels.

i love this system, it certainly makes people think you are a nutter at the first glance, but on the second it turns out this is not quite true :D people often ask me "how much is it in dollar" and im like "i have euros and i do not care how much it is in dollars, google the exchange rate yourself".

Hamilkar Barkas just pure laziness to be honest, another that annoys me is when people ask 'where can I get this kit?' It's super annoying and quite lazy, you just type the name on your search engine and go on the shopping category.

Ha, the Wingnut Felixstowe F2a late, box shows the resultant of the encounter between the two airplanes... Is that Wingnut humour ? or is it .. (..yah, for 229 usd a box ..you can afford a gifted boxart narrative artist.)

remarkable...all the Wingnut ww1 planes winning a confrontation with a burning enemy in the background are british...the german planes (or french) never have a "kill" on their own box... Who are these Wingnut people ?

I just got the W/W Ships Camel last Thursday, and Just looking at the sprues, my feeling is that it is NOT WORTH IT ! Had it been a larger scale, like 1/24 then MAYBE it would be. Although I have not unpackaged the sprues, my first impression is that it doesn't look much different than any other model. Once I build it, I may feel differently, but at over $50.00 more....NOPE, NO WAY JOSE !

The Camel is their bottom line model.. basic but is still the best quality 1:32 Camel you can buy. If you got it for $50 then that was a bargain.. official retail is $79 USD and I had to pay $110 AUD for mine. Once you have had the experience of building it, let me know if you still feel the same..

You misread what I paid for it Harry, I said at over $50.00 MORE.... That meant $50.00 more than other 1/32 kits, (although Roden may be expensive too, but I haven't checked). I wish it was only $50.00, because I paid $80.00 USD. Thanks for the info on it being the bottom line kit, because I didn't know that. Like I said, once I start to build it, I may feel differently, because I am only going by a quick visual of the kit, and I my be wrong. I hope so, because I never saw anybody dog any kit made by them who has actually built one. My opinion, at this point, is an uneducated one, and means absolutely NOTHING yet !

Sorry I did miss read your $50. I have already built the interior of my Wingnut Wings seaplane and was very impressed with the quality of the fit and features in the kit. There are 2 videos on my channel about this. Many people have online videos about the brand, even Andys Hobby headquarters build the new Albatros DV ($89 USD) which is a slighly nicer kit than your Camel. Worth a look as he is just an average modeller and gives a frank appraisal plus shows the entire build: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hnbbfZyhdq2WbZI
