Thanks for this Matt and the extra effort to utilize the trail camera brings the flights to a new level!

Great video! My dad's flight instructor did one of these vertical turns with me (unannounced) on my first Ultralight flight back in the 90s. Good thing as an 11 year old was that I was too shocked to scream :D however, it got me a lot of confidence, especially with steep turns..

Nice flight! Looked peaceful! Glad to see you guys still have some heat in your weather up there! Y'all ever land near that hamburger joint you used to go to anymore?

I have been having a go at wing overs (well crop duster turns) as well, to me a wing over is piching up to 45deg, if you are going vertical isn't it a stall turn or getting close to a stall turn. Anyway in the UK anything above 45deg nose up or 60deg babk is aerobatics and microlights are not cleared for aerobatics but I look at a wing over as in the gray area of not exeeding the limits but nearly aerobatics especially if you link a couple together. That said a fall leaf is sort of aerobatic as well 🙂

I had to look up what a stall turn is. We call them Hammerheads over here. lol I think the distinction between a that and a wingover isn't so much how vertical you go, but if you have forward airspeed when you initiate the rudder turn or not. If you wait for zero airspeed, it's a stall turn / hammerhead and if you still have forward airspeed, it's a wingover. But this just what I gather from my limited internet research. I could be way off! lol Either way, they both seem fun! :-)

@mmatt now a hammerhead I believe here is when the aircraft falls forward or backwards at the top of the vertical. The wing over can be as you described with forward movement at all times. I think the differences are down to the aerobatic body judging and the diagrams clarity it. Who cares for us it is all about fun.

Hi Matt. I've noticed what looks like metal plates hanging down from the linkage for your ailerons on your Beaver. Can you tell me exactly what they are and why you put them on. Just curious.

They're called aileron spades and they reduced the control stick forces needed to roll the airplane. Kinda like power-steering. lol
