I sat next to Edgar on a long flight. I didn’t recognize him and we had a wonderful cross country conversation about a range of topics. When he introduced himself as “Edgar” on his way to a gig in Topeka I realized who he was. Very nice man. He invited me to the Heart concert he was opening for as his guest and I had a great time.

I had the pleasure of sitting with Edgar on a cross country flight several years back. I didn’t recognize him and we had a spirited conversation about a variety of things; favorite authors, etc.. when the conversation came around to the purpose of our respective trips I explained that I had a ‘gig’ in KC and he told me he had a gig in Topeka. My gig was teaching a class….he explained his was “opening for ‘the Girls’l…I asked, “The Girls?” “Yes, Heart….” Then he introduced himself as “Edgar” and I immediately knew who my new ‘friend’ was. He then asked if I was free the following evening and invited me to the concert as his guest! What a wonderful man. His virtuosity during the opening was epic. Heart was great, of course, but his opening act outshone the ‘Girls’ that night.

I saw them at Selland Arena in Fresno when Montrose was with them. Edgar's Brother Johnny came on stage and sat in for a few songs. It was AWESOME. When Frankenstein came on the lights went out and Edgars hands were glowing green playing keyboard around his neck. The Best concert I ever remember!!!! Thanks for this Fil

Oh be still my flashbacks!! Both Edgar and Johnny Winter were sooooo ahead of their times, and as different as night and day musically. I can remember the reaction to this particular song, especially towards the end of the night when everyone at the party was totally buzzed, the host would play this, and we were ready for round two🤣🤣

Dan Hartman (lead vocals and guitar intro riff on "Free Ride") playing the bass here. As a solo artist Hartman in the late 70s had a big soft rock hit with "I Can Dream About You" and "Instant Replay" with Vincent Cusano (Vinnie Vincent) playing guitar on the latter. Rick Derringer played the lead solo on Al Yankovic's "Eat It", had a huge hit with Rock and Roll Hoochie Koo and sang lead vocals and played the guitar solo for The McCoys big mega hit back in the 1960s "Hang on Sloopey." There are some super talented individuals playing right here. Amazing! Thanks for your great commentary, Fil.

Dan wrote the super hit Free Ride too. As both Harrisburgers, Dan played me an early version of Free Ride on a tape machine much before it's release.

My first concert was this lineup 1974. Rick Derringer is from my neck of the woods Fort Recovery, Ohio. I've seen Rick & Edgar many times in concert. It's sad Chuck, Ronnie and Dan are gone now.

I was fortunate to have seen The Edgar Winter Group back in this era and they were amazing to see on stage. Edgar is a great musician and showman. I love both Edgar and Johnnys music.

Amazing musicians!!! I can hear there many things (little nuances) that later on could be heard in many bands... and it was only 1973!!! We sometimes forget that music is a progression that started a long time ago. Great analysis video!!!

I saw Edgar and Rick when they toured with Ringo a few years ago. Rick was doing a solo and wandered over by Edgar..... Edgar had no doubt heard this solo a few hundred times, but his gaze at Rick's playing spoke volumes in the respect and awe he had for his fellow musician. It was a touching and inspiring moment,... the highlight of the entire show for me.

I just watched your analysis of *Carlos Santana's 1969 Woodstock performance* & commented on your use of a *"question and answer"* metaphor to describe it. Your metaphor made me think of your prior analysis of this performance, here, especially the long exchange between the drums -- a full blown *conversation!* Really, this entire performance is a free wheeling conversation between the instruments and between the instrumentalists. From what you said, it sounds like that's basically how they originated the music: jamming together and playing off each other in a conversation. I can't think of any performance that matches this degree of interaction. And the fun, interactive body language isn't an artificial stage device. It corresponds perfectly to the music.
