We had a similar house rule in our physical gaming table for the power 4. We would remove the power 4 from the deck. Deal out everybody's starting hands and the 3 face up cards. THEN we would shuffle them into the deck. Yes, you could theoretically play them in round one, but they wouldn't be in anybody's starting hand, nor the initial 3 face up cards so the first player couldn't just grab them. It worked out well, though not something you could do with the digital game at the moment.

Good game again! I kinda like the new house rule, seems like the matches will be a bit more balanced. I got some questions regarding this game, but this time I'm more interested in your opinion on the opponent's play: One thing that I'm not really thrilled about is the Vireo play. It didn't achieve much (it's a cheap bird with few egg spots) and this mostly cost them food. But this is a minor thing, what concerns me much more is the idea of overloading your nest parasites. As you can see at the 34:52 timestamp, the opponent had Bobwhite and Quail, the latter being in the forest. I'd like to know how the game would end if he simply ignored your cuckoos, played the two egg machines into grassland, preferably finished the line with something exciting, be it some big predator, another laying hen (Mourning Dove would be awesome) or even just the Grasshopper Sparrow that was still available by this time, and then went crazy with eggs. I think that you'd run out of spots really fast, unless of course the Raven+Gull would be enough to keep the slots open while progressing your game state. I know that this idea may sound silly, and there's no way to test it, so it doesn't really matter. But I still feel like that the opponent played to not lose, instead of taking a risk and play to win. Seven eggs/turn could be a bit too many for your cuckoos.

I agree about the vireo. Especially the star nest didn't help with any bonus. 1 food for 1 extra point is hardly worth it. I always think twice playing a low point bird in R3/R4. But I agree the quail might have been better played in the grassland. And then maybe use the hummingbird to gain food to play the wild turkey? Good insights as always! Cheers!
