In Round 2, you were always going to be taking food a second time. You needed extra food to play an end of turn bird. You should have taken food when there were two nectar, rather than force down the penguin. That feels like an unforced error.

I don't think that's necessarily true - even after forcing it I still had 3 food, and would gain one more each turn with the maned duck. Plus there's value in getting Penguin down sooner, as it allows me to draw cards & get more information sooner. If I hadn't immediately found the Audouin's Gull, I would probably just draw cards the rest of the round & play something with the yellowhammer using whatever remaining food I already had, without the need to take food again
