Yess same! When they first added capacitors I wasn't expecting it to take a few years before we got some additional variety, so it's a long time coming. Excited to keep testing and trying stuff out, especially more time with the ballistic repeaters to try and see if i can further convince myself of the spread stuff

Extremely helpful video. The weapon changes in 3.23 make a huge difference to combat and you've done a great job of explaining how. Bounty missions are definitely tougher now as the ai seem to soak up a lot more damage, especially the industrial ships. Also they have a tendency to use ramming as a legitimate tactic!

I kid you not, I have so much footage of me getting rammed by the AI now lol. Definitely have to watch my radar a bit more often to make sure I'm not getting tooooo surrounded. Both because you need to protect your shields by either creating space or adding more shield capacitor, and b/c like you said... the AI likes to get REALLLL friendly now lol. Yeah I can see that being one of their lines of thinking , but i also think given how tanky enemies are and how long you need to chew away at their hulls (especially for the larger targets) you'd really want to just fit yourself for the tankiest targets you would want to fight, and then avoid combat with enemies outside of your target demographic. Sort of like being more specialized vs being more of a generalist.

I think they've made it less obvious what's the *best* way to do something because there's multiple totally valid approaches, based on your skill at aiming, the ship you're flying (and its strengths), or just your flying style/user preference

The (problem? benefit?) is that there's a few different viable loadouts now, depending on your playstyle, so I sort of need to pick and choose which playstyle I'm going to apply to a given ship

Not just lead/lag, but now we have to set a keybind for gsafe, precision lines, gravity assist, precision mode(low speed while landing gear is down), and a few others. And then you need to use those hotkeys, EVERY. TIME. YOU. SIT. IN. THE. PILOT. SEAT.

@@Cab8819 ok ok ok so someone else said something GENIUS to me, and it works. Set the "set blahblah" keybind for those things to the same key as "flight ready". So when you get in and turn on your ship using the flight ready keybind, it'll set all those settings as well. It worked for me for "set lag pip" so it should work for any others that let you bind a specific setting toggled in a given direction

Thank you! I'll look into that a bit more once the patch goes live - I haven't had any time in a turret in 3.23 yet so I'm curious how the gimbals work there with the auto gimbaling being preserved. They always used to have a pretty high amount of aim assist even in 3.22. One thing I did notice about the pip is that it's black when you're out of range, it's red when you're in range but not on center-mass of the target, and it's green when you're in range and on center mass. I haven't quite sorted out what the difference in circle types are when you have multiple pips. I don't think it's ballistic vs laser since i had different circle types even when i was using a full laser loadout. Might have to do with fast vs slow projectile speeds.

Really informative video, thanks! I searched for this because my Inferno that I got during 3.22 felt really bad in PvE now. In addition to hull damage reduction, it feels like they also decreased the rpm and agility of it. I understand it's supposed to be a heavy fighter but having to put almost half the ammo into a single small ship is a bit frustrating.

Yeah the Ares ships both got nerfed in 3.23, which is unfortunate. Ballistics especially got hit pretty hard this patch. They used to do higher damage to account for the fact that they had limited ammo but with the increased ammo of 3.23 they also got their damage brought down, PLUS they are heat-limited now as well. So yeah... not a great place for ballistics right now. But its temporary! CIG have said that they're not happy with the state of combat right now and things are going to change a lot in 4.0

In audio attack refers to how quickly a transient (sound) reaches its peak level, and decay describes the relative rate of decline in this transient. Viewed as a graph where Y is sound level and X is time this is visualized as a rapid rise from origin to a peak (the shorter this time the faster the attack), followed by a gradual curving decline (decay describing the slope of this line.) I am inferring that they are describing a similar pattern of behavior relative to how long your burst of fire is, such that least spread is seen at the start of a burst and the longer the burst is sustained the more the spread increases. More simply, this punishes you for treating your weapons like a garden hose, and the faster the rate of fire of your weapons the more punishing this effect will be, especially at range. So rather than initiating fire and steering the impacts onto target you will have better results through better trigger discipline of only firing when you have a proper firing solution.

oooo thank you, that definitely was helpful. I was thinking they were referring to the spread of the bullet over the time that the individual bullet traveled, but what you say makes WAY more sense, which is that the statistics refer to the spread that the gun is imparting to each bullet the longer the gun is kept firing. So guns with a higher attack and max spread will want to be only burst fired whereas guns with a lower attack or lower max spread will be ok being held down a bit more.

quick note: you CAN actually see how much shield is in the buffer in the usage bar! on the shield MFD, if the usage bar is at 50% then you have 50% shields in buffer, self explanatory

OMG ! Thank you for showing me where the LAG pip option is hahaha. Oh man they changed SO MUCH with weapon stats. So when it comes to S5 energy weapons are Attrition 5's better than M7A's ? The dps is almost the same but slightly faster rpm but like you said the cannons have 2 shots per power rating. For Bounty hunting it used to be all cannons. Is that still viable for say a Connie build ? It comes with the Galdereen which blew me away. Those were always rated as garbage lol.

no basically what you want is M-series cannons, omnisky cannons, or cf-series repeaters if you want laser weapons. Unfortunately I can't find any reason to use attritions now :( But yeah basically you have to throw away everything you used to know about weapons before b/c it really is all completely different. Galdereens are fine if you want the fast 1800m/s projectile speed, but honestly that's mostly for fighting tiny targets (or targets at really long range i guess?) and that's not really what the connie is about. I'm pretty much only using omniskys and M7As. I've tried deadbolts too since other people like them but so far I've liked laser cannons more.

thanks a lot this is a great update to us that didnt play in EPTU testing . for me when I heard they making all weapons gimbles I got upset as my Sabre was better having a bigger gun size and paid the price of having them fixed I bet they havent up the weapon size slot for that. so with all the ships with smaller weapon ports but had gimbles not can just up size a be the same :( but on the flip side the Scorpius can no have the bigger size as you needed the gimble to fight close lol and the Connie size 6. or have they changed all the weapon sizes for all the ships ?

I don't think the sabre paid any price to have the size 3's fixed. 4xs3 is a pretty powerful weapon loadout so I think its fine, especially once it gets whatever stealth capabilities it's supposed to have. I think the only ships that got up-weaponed were ships that had gimbals as part of their default loadout. Now they still have gimbals, but the weapons attached to those gimbals are the same size as the gimbal was. So basically, the hardpoints that were on the ships are the same size, across the board. You're saying the ships that had gimbals can upsize, but remember that they're losing their gimbal effect - we used to get auto-aim capabilities via auto-gimbals for having the smaller sizes and now we don't have that anymore. I don't think there are any real losers here among the ships with the gimbal changes. A couple ships got small buffs thanks to it, but at the end of the day everything is going through a rebalancing and anything that sticks out as over or underpowered is going to be adjusted. Scorpius had 4xs3 hardpoints, like it always did. It used to be able to fit size 2s and auto-aim, but now it fits size 3s and doesn't get any auto-aiming. Connie is 4xs5. It used to be able to fit 4xs4 and auto-aim, but now it just fits 4xs5 and doesn't get any auto-aim.

I would like to make a new tier list, but I also want to give myself some time with the new master modes so that I'm not just doing it based on initial impressions, you know? There's *so much* I need to try out, we have so many different potential weapon and capacitor settings to use, along with all the different ships all having different flight profiles and amount of capacitor. The tier list videos take me a few weeks to create (yes, seriously!) so I want to make sure I know what I'm trying to say first. I *might* make a short-form tierlist that's like an "initial impressions" list or something like that so that people that need help picking ships for bounty hunting have something to reference, but I'm moving house this weekend so I'm probably going to be offline for a bit until all that life stuff gets sorted :D

what loadout would you recommend for the Hornet Ghost PVP? I slapped a some of Omnisky 9s and ripped off the stealth cap and nose for Omni 3s? But it felt really bad? Any advice would be appreciated.

I don't really pvp too much but I'd probably go for bulldog/badger/panther/etc repeaters instead of omniskys. Omniskys have slower projectile speed than the cf-series repeaters so it'll be easier to land your shots with the faster weapon projectile speeds

Idk if you can say its a ballistic nerf, more like shields working properly, but full ballistics is a lot harder because shields are actually blocking the damage they are suppose to ( i think it was suppose to block 90% damage from ballistics and as shields go down more damage from them). So now its more useful to do a mix of them as if you use the lasers to take out shields then ballistic the hull they drop like flys

thats backwards, right now even with full shields 70% of the ballistic damage just goes right through the shields, but then the hull itself is blocking between 50-60% of THAT damage. Ballistic damage used to be really high to help account for the limited ammo but now that they've given us a lot more ammo, they've also lowered the ballistic damage to be much more inline with laser weapons AND they made them generate heat and be heat-limited. I definitely would say ballistics have been nerfed in 3.23 compared to before.

Could have been a fluke but in testing i found that the C-788 Combine is completely useless. It seems to have a minimum range and even within the required range window it doesnt seem to do much to any damage. As in like 10+ shots landed on a Mk2 and seeing no red. Hopefully they give that gun some love because it looks and sounds great

I don't think it's a fluke. It sucked in 3.22 and I'm guessing it still sucks in 3.23. The issue was that it used to be way overpowered when it did interior splash damage to components. I'm willing to bet that it (and the pyroburst scattergun which also used to do that) are probably not going to see their time in the light until after we get physicalized damage since the explosive damage is too difficult to balance with just numbers on hull segments/components.

Hrt's feel so much harder, they rush you together full spamming lasers before you can even get to the target, your shields are already down & you have to disengage. It's been a pain even in the bucaneer

Oh yeah when you're closing range on them you cannot be flying towards them in a straight line, they will evaporate your shields. you need to be corkscrewing/spiraling a bit until you're flying around them and not directly towards them.

You might still need to, erkul doesn't account for the additional power it takes to turn on a quantum drive. I think it's 100 for a s1 quantum drive and 1000 for a s2. I've had lots of funky stuff happen with stealth powerplants so i basically never want to use them for combat now.

most ships can do HRTs without too much trouble, but a medium or heavy fighter like a hornet or vanguard will be able to do HRTs without much trouble. Something like a constellation or a corsair will make it easy-mode

I did over 30 hours of testing now, in hrt, vhrt, and erts. My experience are: Stay completly away from attritions, since they have no benefit as a repeater with 1000 muzzle vs M series lasers. Everything with 1400 muzzle is your allround weapon while 1800 muzzle weapons are for dedicated anti fighter usage. Additionally, even tho coolers have higher rates and different valeus, they give 0 benefit for cooling down balistic weapons: I tested a gladius with 1 grade c cooler (130k cooling/s) and 2 industial coolers (440k/s x2 (880k total) and both variants could fire a tarantula canon 10 shots before overheating. My go to build for ERTs will be the connstelation taurus, fitted with 4x deadbolt size 5 canons, since they have identical stats then the M7 canons but are 3 sec to cooldown instead of 9 sec recharging your power from the condensator.

Yep I agree with everything you said (and tried to say the same thing but in less detail when I said "coolers do nothing, don't change them"). I was hoping the Attritions would have some heat-up bonuses like they used to a long time ago, but as of now they just seem like a faster fire-rate and significantly lower dps version of the M-series. For me, I'm thinking we stay away from the "anti-fighter" weapons for pve since its easy enough to land shots with the 1400m/s laser cannons, even on small ships. It takes you a few missed shots, maybe, but you just get so much more dps across the board I just don't see the point of the anti-fighter weapons outside of pvp right now. How did you feel the connie with deadbolts performed at ERTs? I didn't do too many ERTs but when I came across an 890J and a Hammerhead they took a LONNGGGG time to take down, so i figured its probably not worth the time given how tanky they are. If you get lucky and get an A2/Redeemer though its fine lol

@@WingZeroType Since deadbolts have 4x the ammo then before (70 to 283) you can run much more ERTs then before. The main point as gameplay loop and farming comes with looting the cargo, worth around 200k up to 5/6 million depending on the amount of weevil eggs. Overall power management can set full to shield which makes it easier vs hammerheads. The weapon changes and AI behavoir is very notiable. And since balistics ignore 70% of shields you can kill stuff faster which in return gives you higher survivability, since targets shot less on you obviously ^^

The vanguard is still a solid ship, but the sentinel now has half the critical hull HP of the other models, so I'd suggest going with the Harbinger instead since it also comes with S5 torps and they upgraded it so that it's not much slower than any other vanguard. BUTTT honestly for 3.23 I'd say going with something like a corsair or Connie is going to be much stronger. With enemies being tankier having high dps really helps.

Yeah that's because they're named plasma guns in name only. They're basically just laser weapons with similar stats to the other laser weapons (cannons and repeaters, based on whether the vanduul gun is shooting quickly or not). I didn't put them in this video b/c I was trying to help people choose how to loadout their ship and those vanduul guns can't be swapped around. But in case you didn't already know, erkul.games has all the information you could want to see about any of the weapons.

Honestly, I'm just sticking with laser cannons for everything. I don't pvp so I never need to bother with 1800m/s guns, and that's the only place where repeaters make sense (outside of maybe on turrets, where repeaters might make sense due to cannons overheating with the larger turret capacitors).

sorry for the late response, but you want big dps! Constellations, Corsair, 600i, and even the prowler are all solid options thanks to their high dps and shields. Ares are not in a great place so i wouldnt really go with those, Vanguard isn't as strong as it used to be but you can still use it. It'll just take a while

you're totally right, but i'm going to wait for a bit more iteration on the ships before making one. right now, things are just so utterly unfinished it feels pointless. the answer right now is dps is king, full stop. so get a connie, corsair, 600i, or something else with bigass firepower and go to town. use m-series laser cannons. loot the ERTs for maze and weevil eggs. That's..... about it. There's not a lot of subtlety in the current balance for end-tier pve. If you're doing VLRTs through HRTs though, you can have a lot of fun with different options lol. But that doesn't make any money

I think the hornets and the Bucc can get up to VHRTs without much difficulty. I've even done it in a banu defender with full deadbolts, but you need to reload every 2-3 targets. It depends how long you're willing to spend in a given fight, and how much you're willing to disengage if you need to. I've even done VHRTs in light fighters like a mustang delta and an Avenger, but it honestly takes wayyyy too long, you have little room for error (can't let a corsair land a full volley on you or you're toast), and I wouldn't recommend it.

lol, I lost a lot of S2/S3 components/weapons and all my rep when the new patch dropped. And the weapons changes, my stack of attrition repeaters aren’t as good at swatting light fighters as panthers/rhino repeaters. With no aUEC and rep, gonna be a big grind, as I need to get an Eclipse and A2 again…

Eclipse torps miss a lot now! Or at least, I haven't found the optimal way to make them hit. But yeah it's gonna be a grind. It seems that even though bounty hunter rep was wiped, once you do the 4k mercenary faction unlock missions you still get the bounty hunter missions that you had access to in 3.22. I don't think you get the bonus payouts, but at least if you were bounty hunting before you can more or less pick up where you left off

@@WingZeroType yeah, once I unlocked the basic permits, I could do ERTs, unlocked Crusader and Hurston for pro tem permit. I also found using an M2 for single ERT can be profitable if you find eggs… I’m unsure if 3.23.1 will restore my missing Eclipse, as it’s stated in the PTU build.

Really don't care about combat too much other than the bunker missions. I only do like mrt or hrt missions to get money fast and then just mine all day :D but i wanna try the salvaging since i haven't done that at all when it was introduced and i heard that money is harder to earn in the 3.23

Yeah salvaging was undergoing heavy testing in 3.22 so they made it pay WAYYY too much. They've nerfed it pretty hard for 3.23 but it's probably in the ballpark of mining, profitwise. A bit lower, most likely but not completely un-worthwhile.

Normal one is called lead pip. For lag pip, you're focusing on putting a lagging indicator of the predicted impact point on top of your target, so you're focusing your eyes on your target itself so you can see when it's moving around and turning and whatnot. With lead pip, you're looking "in front" of your target to lead your shots, oftentimes at some random spot in space away from the enemy itself, so you're slower to react to things like them rotating around and getting ready to move in a different direction.

There are lots of videoediting guides on "safe area/zone" regions. Lastly the extra text could honestly be its own separate Pt. 2 video where you're showing how all the choices/changes translate into practice with narration. Keep up the great work, your recommended loadouts are my go to.

Funnily enough I work in mobile for a living and i know of the concept from that, cool to see how things translate to different types of media. I'm going to see if i can find a way to make it better without making it intrusive to the main body of the video. I haven't been too happy with it lately, especially with how the text overlaps with the MFDs making it look not-great to begin with so I have been meaning to do something about it, and you've just given me another reason to do better. Can't promise i'll have it solved for the next video but its definitely on my mind.

even more pro tip that another commenter told me -> make the "set lag pip" keybind the same as your flight-ready keybind (alt+r by default). That way it will be set for you most of the time without having to press anything extra

Ok.... that was cute leme tell you the actual meta. 1. Get a buccaneer 2. Put canons on it,nothing more 3. Switch mav mode and dive target, once done diving switch back to nav mode. This will make it so that a buccaneer can kill a fully deck multy crew hammerhead. There is no balance. Look it up.

Can you share a video to back up your claims? How is the bucc surviving against the 400 repeaters of the hammerhead long enough to chew through all the shield and HP of a hammerhead? Are you talking about players or AI? If AI, I think you need to get on a server that isn't dead, hammerheads can most definitely hit a bucc.

Ion is annoying as heck to use - see the end of the video for a short clip of what fighting in the Ion looks like. The inferno's dps doesn't feel as impressive as it used to but its such an easy ship to fly thanks to just permanently running full power to shields and having 4 mins of ammo that i don't hate it. But I do think its not nearly as "scary" as it used to be.

Capacitors recharging even when having no power to them sucks. Yet another example of skill reduction and wrapping players in cotton wool. Takes away the tactics of pushing your opponent to run out of boost and if they want to recharge it they have to take power from shields making them weaker. And the weapon ranges are absolutely ridiculous, completely goes against encouraging closer fights

So I don't do a lot of pvp so I can't really speak too much to the old tactics, but I imagine there will be a new prevailing tactic that accounts for that. I personally think this has opened up capacitor usage SO MUCH compared to before that this is an awesome change. Getting a base level of performance out of a system makes logical sense to me. I think it should be taken down a bit, but that's a tuning issue. I'm happy they've made it make sense to run 17% power to a system, or even 33% power to a system instead of the previous patch where anything other than running 100% power to a system just made no logical sense. Now we truly have dynamic capacitor allocation during combat whereas before it was sort of like "pick one of three systems you want to focus on right now". To me, *that* dumbed down combat a lot more. I'm actively managing cap during the fight based on how combat is going much more now than I ever used to before, and I'm loving it. As for the weapon ranges, I'm not sure what they're going for there. I know they've added more spray so even if a weapon says 3k range it's not really doing anything at 3k range other than tiny chip damage to the enemy b/c of the weapon spray (except maybe high alpha weapons).

Yeah even CIG has stated that they're not happy with the current implementation, but its such a massive undertaking that they need to get it out and start getting feedback and then iterating. I agree that the gunnery UI (and the quantum UI, for that matter) both have taken a pretty massive step backwards in terms of glanceability and knowing WTF is going on without having to try really hard to parse everything on screen. I'm hoping they take the steps to rectify that soon. As for the colorblind struggle, I unfortunately haven't seen any signs from CIG so far that accessibility is something they're willing to put effort into at this stage, so I think we're up shit's creek without a paddle on that front for the foreseeable future.
