It could easily be a round of Name That Tune if not its own show.

I was on holiday in the UK in the 80s and this series aired mornings (if memory served). I really dug the show and was surprised to learn that there was an attempt to bring it to the US. I'm not really sure why this wasn't picked up. It is great fun.

Not bad for a fusion of Name That Tune, Family Feud and Scrabble.

Is this same show hosted by Kevin O'Connell and the announcer by Marc summers.

Very interesting game, I can't understand why this didn't make it to air, whether the Kevin O Connell or this version, I thought the bonus round puzzle was Calendar Girl, until the end and I got to hear all nine notes.

honestly, I prefer the all-civilian format. also, no idea why Charlie O Donnell was replaced with Marc Summers for the third pilot. Podium design changed in the third pilot too, i noticed

Something's off here -- Since when does a Reg Grundy game show NOT have the dramatic closing logo? Also, when you consider that this would have been the first/only Grundy game show to have Charlie O'Donnell as announcer, to not hear his voice over that crucial moment is blasphemy.

The set for this show looks very similar to a set from Family Feud (minus the answer board).
@Uzumakipavel13 күн бұрын
Yeah, no. 1986 pilot wins. At least in previous pilot you don't need to pull out some arrows to lock-in your answers and don't need celebriry captains
@SP84Fanatic13 күн бұрын
That said, I liked a couple of things about this pilot: The chase lights in the piano keys on the set are a nice touch. Also, they gave more keynotes for free compared to the earlier pilot in an attempt to speed the game up. Additionally, the bonus round being restructured to play for draws of keynotes sped things up nicely and gave contestants more control over how their final song was played. I feel the celebrity antics here slowed things down too much.

the show was more successful in the UK and australia.

I think the buzzer was on whose line is it anyways. I could be wrong. Plus this was supposed to be a CBS game show. I was expected that it would have the sound effects from the price is right

Now that I think about it, I feel Clint would've been a better fit for this than Kevin-him having shot to success with "Playground in My Mind" years ago.

@hughrist625710 күн бұрын
I was never a fan of Clint Holmes so maybe that's why this version died besides the lame pulling the arrow bit. I will say these celebrities make the show more fun because RK and Gloria Loring were never awful on a celebrity show. This version was fun and it would be nice to have it re-produced but nowadays a big production is needed., Last thing is ODonnell should have introduced the contestants not the celebrities themselves.
@garyharris715 күн бұрын
The arrows are silly. Clint is good. The biggest drawback would be getting clearences. Good game that is fun.

This will be interesting. I've seen the other pilot with Kevin O' Connell. I thought he did a fantastic job, but he has no connection to music....
@Quartzquiz33313 күн бұрын
Interestingly enough, his sister, Mary Kate O'Connell, runs a musical theater company in the Buffalo area.
@marcpower416713 күн бұрын
Now that I've actually watched it, Clint does a nice job. I think it works better without celebrities they tend to distract from the game. Those arrows are the oddest buzzer system I've ever seen, were they too cheap to set up a buzzer system?

In the words of the late Alex Trebek, “Oooh sorry, the correct response is Who is Al Howard. Al Howard was the original creator of Sale of the Century from 1969 to 1974 in which Australian producer resurrected in the U.S. in 1983 and lasted to 1989. Matthew is going to cost you how much?”. Please don’t post facts in the comments that are not true. It a waste of everyone’s time.

Hang on Andrew, Matthew never said Reg created those shows, just that he was "best known" for them. Although he is off on the years for Sale of the Century.
