Paul is such a bro for always leavng Alec his left side! There was also that time when Paul didn't loot anything good so Alec gave him one of his super rares so he can have something to wager. I love lore of these series (as little as there is)! No matter how much they compete for Master Marik's favour, they never forget about their friendship. They are rivals, but not enemies!

Dark Balter negates the effects of anything it destroys by battle, including all of the flip effects, so Paul actually had game with Jinzo and Summoned Skull still on the board. Also, the Trunade trick works with Premature Burial, but not with the Call of the Haunted, hence why it's still banned today.

@@korneefart I think you're talking about a different play than I am. I'm talking about 25:10. In Paul's end phase, Alec activates Call of the Haunted to bring back Jirai Gumo. There is no Jinzo present on the field. The next play Alec makes in the end phase is to activate Giant Trunade, bouncing Call of the Haunted back to his hand. Jinzo was not present on the field at any point during this sequence of events, and therefore Jirai Gumo should have been destroyed when Call of the Haunted left the field.

See, this is what I love about old YGO. This match really went down to the wire. Interesting loops, back-and-forth gameplay, and actually having to be considerate about your resources. It wasn't just Paul sitting back and twiddling his thumbs while Alec did a combo, with the only interaction being Alec pausing to ask "do you have a response?" To which Paul, tired of this, rolls his eyes and goes "I didn't open any hand traps. You're good, duelist"

What a tense episode! Few card rulings though...old vindictive specifies an opponent's monster, so the man-eater bug would have actually survived the swords. Call of the haunted would have destroyed the monster after being bounced, so that would have ended faster. Also I think one of those vindictives later on in the duel should have been negated by the fusion monster

This duel was great! I love the back and forth and how you use cool old cards people usually ignore even in formats like this one! Also, a little heads up, Old Vindictive Magician only destroys monsters on your opponent's side of the field, so Alec didn't have to destroy both his monsters when Paul activated Swords of Revealing Light. And when Call Of The Haunted leaves the field, the monster it Special Summoned gets destroyed :)

What a fantastic game! Life Points down to the triple digits and yet the decider was by running out of cards! Seeing that the decks didn't change much this time around and with an increasingly large card pool available, I'd be very interested in seeing secondary decks built to wager previously pulled cards! As much as I love seeing powerful cards like Pot of Greed and Man-Eater Bug still being played since the beginning, I'd love to see variety from all the cards y'all pulled so far. Excellent episode! Back when they changed the classification to Spell cards from Magic cards, since I had both as a kid, I thought they were a specific type of Magic Card. So any card that referred to a Spell card directly didn’t affect Magic cards in my mind.

This time Paul just drew almost all the solid cards, would be glad to see such events more.

Gather Your Mind was handy for adding spell counters, while also thinning out your own deck. That last part was much more useful before deck searching effects being so common. I think this might have been the last set I ever bought. Once I'd put together decks for Dark Paladin and XYZ Dragon Cannon, I called it good, because I didn't think anything could get cooler. :p

If you active the effect of Spear Cretin on the field while you have a Spear Cretin in your GY, couldn't you use the two copies of the card to keep Special Summoning the other face down for an infinite defense?

This is the back and forth gameplay that I adored about early Yugioh.

The duel was very fun to watch (aside from the Call of the Haunted misplay) It reminds me of how awesome this card game used to be. Keep it coming! so fun to watch!
