I came to Winnipeg to go to University and have now lived here 46 years. It's a great city (although it could use a shorter winter). I keep hoping not too many people figure this out because I don't really want it to get any bigger. This video clip should be entitled "The Forks in Winnipeg". There is sooo much more to see in this city than just The Forks.

I live in winnipeg and it honestly isnt that bad of a city, i kinda wish winnipeg was known for how great it is. Ive lived in every part of the city throughout my life, a lot of good people. Just know winnipeg isnt that bad.

Of course. I mean, it depends on what you're looking for in a city. You've got pretty much everything in Winnipeg that you can find anywhere else and some focus on things you may not expect. Naturally there are people who hate the place...just as there are people who hate everything about any place one cares to name. Overall, however, it's no different than any other place in Canada. The crime rate puts people off but it's also seriously overblown by the national media. It's not Guatemala or Iraq or anything stupid like that. It's still safer than every major American city or city of equal size in the States. The real thing to worry about is the winter. No point in lying...if you don't like deep cold then don't go to Winnipeg because it gets COLD. People don't seem to understand what a Winnipegger means by a cold day. It doesn't mean a little ice and a little snow. It means you have to plug your car in at night. Until I left the city it never occurred to me that that wasn't a common practice in every winter city in the world. But Winnipeggers don't think much of -30 or lower and neither will you if you live there for a little while. Just dress appropriately.

Winnipeg is cold, icy and snowy from November till April. January and February are the two most brutal months that are colder than any other city of our size or bigger. Most mornings during these months you can lose your fingers to frostbite in 2 minutes. If you live here you climatize to the weather and get used to it, just dress warmly. From May until September the weather is nice, and you can swim in local lakes from June to early early September without much problem. We get really beautiful summers here, the average temperature being 23 C but there's always a couple weeks above 30 C. Summers here are very comfortable for any outdoor activity you want, and there's plenty of wildlife that you can see. If you ever come to Manitoba in may or September you might want to check out Narciss Snake Dens, the largest gathering of snakes in the world. They all come together from miles away to hibernate in limestone caverns, it's awesome.

I’m from here and have recently moved back to family and lifelong friends. As with most cities there are good aspects and not so good. It’s a very small city. People are great. Traffic flow really sucks, traffic volume on major roads is ridiculous, and the roads in general are not in good repair. Road construction is 5x slower than I’m used to (in Calgary). Drivers are not so good. I’ve seen more people running red lights in a year than I saw in 10 years in Calgary. Driving 20kms under the speed limit holding up traffic on a busy road is common and people have no clue how to merge. I don’t think the concept of staying in your own lane when turning made it into the drivers manual and there seems to be a lot of cars where the turn signals are broken. Way too many controlled intersections on major roads. Takes me about as long to get 13 Kim’s downtown as it did in Calgary to go 32kms. Few amenities found in larger cities. Taxes are high, wages in general are low. Stay out of the north end. This is not a hate. Just reality.
