And to the end of time, he will as you so rightly say, be the very greatest man of the 20th Century, for without his will, guts and reflection and aye AND his deep sense of humility, he won all our hearts with his sense of perception as to how the very humanity of ordinary men and women so desirous of peace and goodwill had been sucked in by big mouthed political gangsters with all their sinister threats designed to cower Common Mankind into abject slavery and mental oblivion. Let us be honest with ourselves, and we had hundreds of thousands of very brave men and women God bless them All, each and Every One, but who like all good, decent and honest souls, desired nothing, but nothing, but peace, good will and a common set of social values rather than to fight each other, especially where barely twenty years before millions suffered appallingly…But we, all these aforementioned « ordinary » men and women , held to ransom with gutless promises, lies threats and blackmail by a hideous creed of totalitarianism….Others did their best, writers, but were not strong enough, others, politicians and statesmen too, tried to avoid the worst advent, but were no stronger than other observers, and we in Britain would have dare I say « willingly » travelled further down the road of Appeasement and Pacifism, anything and everything to avoid the bloody and hideous conflict of war between nations, repetitious and never solving anything….How could we be wrong, if War were in the circumstance avoided…? Yet War had been « on the cards » for almost ten years, here and there in Ethiopia, in China, terrible war with mustard gas dropped on International Red Cross sites, with unstoppable executions upon the civilian population of Nanking, and in Europe if such conflict had been avoided it was at the point of a gun, of threats of force and cynical blackmail against decent Souls who yielded “for the greater good of their people” only to be imprisoned for their good will; and there had been talks and talks and also assassinations and more assassinations, and Nations declaring their determination to be neutrals… Britain was last in the line ready to fall in defeat and we would have done readily, perhaps shamefully, but for this one truly great Man seeing through the mists of gloom, despair and anxiety….Long Live Churchill! Worthy descendent of Marlborough! He stood by us, galvanised and tempered the very best in us, Saviour and defender of the Common Man in the spirit of Saint George and King Arthur! VIVA! For, remember this, England, Britain, to her honour has never, but never ever schemed or planned or connived with others, to rule over or domineer or dominate other states and countries of the Continent of Europe and very much to the contrary, has more often than anything else kept watchful eye upon those states gathering their all to wield undue influence over lesser countries.
