Here in the Willamette Valley, I learned this year half the entire 3 acre field I was planning to use for figs is partially submerged in winter. Time to find some drainage solutions! Good luck to you!

I am also in the Willamette Valley and have noticed the exact same thing. Thank you for sharing your results. This might help others not plant in areas that are similar. KZbin is a great vehicle for education! So many things about growing figs in ground locally are a challenge as few have reported extensively about this.

Apples grafted on Pacific crabapple might be a good option for you in the real wet areas. For figs maybe mix a bag of sand with native soil and make a mound to plant in, any organic matter is going to breakdown and sink over time. My figs have trays under them that hold water and do just fine I use a mineral mix of soil, I have seen figs grown hydroponically so I don't think water is the issue. I think the issue is they don't like rotting organic matter that becomes anaerobic and can produce hydrogen sulfide. The roots need oxygen so I would plant the trees bareroot so the rotting potting soil is not in the hole.

@@matthewking2209 I can’t plant in mounds as the dogs will just dig them out. Cutting off the bottoms of large pots to create small raised beds is the only option I can see that’s really viable. Unless I fence off all the trees.

Maybe just use native soil and sand in your pots. I guess you are using the pot as a rim to keep the dogs from digging and hold the soil in place.

Eric: Lou Monti always says plant figs on your highest ground. Your situation seems to prove his point. Do you have a solution for this dilemma?

@@georgehigdon4974 as I said in the video I’ll probably put them in the big pots with the bottoms cut off. Good to hear from you George!

Plant some other fruits that tolerate wetness in that area. Figs don’t like wet feet

What do you suggest?
