13:45 I hear you Marra, I feel the same way and get the same reactions from friends when I say I'm going camping in such weather. But I agree with the adventure aspect of it, I've always been an outdoors person since being introduced to it at Junior school, I live in the lakes and so its part of my heritage and it's simply one of my great loves in life, to simply be out there, alone or with friends. Thanks for sharing your trips with us.

Hi Patrick! I have watched several of your videos now and have enjoyed them all, but this is the first time I have felt compelled to make a comment. I agree with your sentiments exactly about wild camping; the excitement from it (a sort of subdued thrill) along with the planning make it all so much fun. You keep going for it my friend. A useful tip(or not); In the cooler months I take a Zippo style hand warmer, which I stuff at the bottom of my sleeping bag. This emits a slowly released heat that can last for anything up to 12 hours.
@patrickdickinson64927 жыл бұрын
Hi Gordon, yes you can ,t beat a wild camp for the feeling of adventure and the challenge. Like you say the planning side of a camp is also so interesting thinking of different locations, food options etc, I always like to have a camp to look forward to. Zippo style hand warmer a good idea, will try it, although for cold conditions you can ,t beat a hot water bottle. Thanks for your comments Gordon all the best Pat

Your camping kit is well thought out Patrick. I always went for gel-fuel in my Trangia. It seemed to work even down at below-zero temperatures. I built my own log house up here in Argyll. For insulation we used a 40-layer reflective quilt. Some years ago I came across my old tent in the steel container that we used to store two households of stuff... (Now the house is finished, my stuff is still in there). So, one spring day, I thought I'd try the insulation as a ground sheet. It's very bulky so not for backpacking. But it'd be OK for car camping. 20minutes into a may night I gave up. The midges were taking me down in double quick time. Yikes!
@patrickdickinson64925 жыл бұрын
Hi yes that insulation just the right stuff to sleep on, bit bulky fo wildcamping, but like you say fine for car camping. Sounds a nice spot you have in Argyll, all the best Pat

Like you I don't usually sleep a lot but all this year I have taken a little cube shaped bluetooth speaker and a cheap mp3 player. I have found this combination superb, you can play music or podcasts, the batteries last (apparently) 45 hours but can confirm that it lasts a whole weekend away. Combined with a book (this year Hornblower stories by C.S Forrester) I found I get sleepy and get off to sleep easily. By the way, good scran, Pataks sauce, chicken, onions, garlic and spuds is top stuff. Try it with bannock bread - yum yum.

What an exceptional camp site. After those equally exceptional meals you prepared, your backpack must have been a lot lighter on the walk out. Nice display here of bivy camping.
@patrickdickinson64928 жыл бұрын
+Random Button Pusher Hi the campsite was a great spot protected from the wind and rain, it could of been a bit more remote as walkers were only 400m away and due to the quiet and stillness you could hear voices as people walked by so clearly. As I was not too far from home I carried a lot of extra food and was glad when I arrived at the campsite, much easier when I walked home the next day with a lighter pack. All the best Pat

Hi pat thanks for the videos they are very interesting keep up the good work. You've inspired us to take a camping trip next weekend in the Peak District. Could you recommend some good walks suitable for children. All the best Chris Norris.
@patrickdickinson64928 жыл бұрын
+Chris Norris Hi Chris you,ve picked a great place to camp and go walking, so many walking area,s to choose .the edges like Stanege, Froggatt, Curbar are all pretty level and well marked there safe for children as long as you keep a eye on them as some vertical drops at the edges ,very popular with climbers. The Great Ridge is a spectacular walk from Mam Tor to loose Hill at around 500 meters great views, you can do it the easy way by parking at Mam Nick car park and only 15-minute walk to top of Mam Tor popular for school trips. For easy walking park at Chatsworth house, our jewel in the Peak District only £3-00 all day plenty of level walking by the Derwent river and area around Chatsworth, if your feeling rich take your children to the Adventure Playground they will love it. For real walking and adventure there are Kinder Scout and Bleaklow at 600 meters, compass and map essential.This is just a few places google these for more info. Hope you enjoy your trip Thanks Pat

It is always a pleasure to watch your videos. I to hope you keep doing this for many years :) Thanks - Martin

+NorwegianWoods Hi Martin the camp was very enjoyable and yes I hope to be doing this for many years. I,am very envious of the snow you get as camping in the snow just makes for a greater adventure. Up to now we have had very little snow and may not get any more this winter All the best Pat

The snow and the cold certainly makes the adventure more challenging. We don't get as much snow as we used to in my part of Norway. I think every part of the world has its own unique thing that makes it special. - Martin
