I made a food warmer from an old windshield screen and aluminum tape. Keeps the food right hot.

I did make a couple of pot cosys like that a few years back. They worked really well, apart from the aluminium tape got a bit flimsy and broke after a few months of use. 🤣

hello my friend.I'm from Brighton originally,moved to West cork about 35 years ago.I miss all the old collided hazel woodland where we used to buff out as youths at every opportunity.everything you need is there to hand,and we spent many happy days tarp camping there.stay safe an lucky.mad dog dom.off grid,survivalist.horse drawn and pretty much self sufficient.

collided I meant.the old charcoal makers used to manage the woodland and they would budge chair legs with the old spring pole lathes.we built a big ingenious fireplace from old blocks from a disused piggery,and used to meet up there regularly to get out of the ratrace,and be close to nature.thanks again for your post.subscribed to help you with the algorithms.health and happiness.the simple life is the best.respect.maddog

What a fantastic camp out there James. That section of video while you were preparing wood, lit in the golden evening light, was lovely to watch especially. A most enjoyable watch all the way through, thank you for sharing :) Warren

Thank you for that Warren, I had a really awesome camp. It was a shame that sunlight was short-lived before the rain came, but that was a thoroughly relaxing time dealing with the firewood! I'll be taking thst little firebox out again! 👍

Nice vid James, little twig stove looked perfect for cooking, heat, and visuals. Back garden test of my (modest) gear proved it out in around 1C temps last weekend, so hoping to get out myself soon. All the best with your kit that Outdoor Gear Essentials are selling. Cutlery roll is locked and loaded :-)

Cool video James, sweet set up, can't beat the Bush TV, what I tend to do ,is put a metal wind shield up ,semi circle ,thus directing the heat into the shelter more, plus it hides the flames abit from the rest of the wood (when stealth camping,) I also have one side of my windshield sprayed green, bit more stealthy, and s/s side reflecting the fire, really enjoyed this video, good health and safe travels my friend, cheers craig

That's really good thinking there Craig! I think I might have one of the taller windshields in my collection somewhere... I'm going to have to go and see if I can dig it out. Cheers for that! All the best to you chap, may the trail and the skies stay clear for you! All the best, James 🙏💚

It has gotten very Summer like here in Virginia USA
@SussexOutdoors
@SussexOutdoors Жыл бұрын
I'm a bit envious... Here in Blighty we'll get one of two types of summer... The usual (cold, windy, wet... A bit like the rest of the year), or the odd heatwave, where it goes to the other extreme, where the grass turns brown and dies, we have water shortages, and sleeping at night is knowing what a boil-in-the-bag meal feels like! 🤣

Hello, just stumbled across your video - thanks for the content. 👍🏻 I had a thought about your food warming bag - good idea! (I usually use my hat but then my head gets cold!) It does the same thing as a hot water bottle cover essentially - which got me thinking… You are using a 2 quilt setup zipped together with a foot box for your feet (I can’t stand sleeping bags either.). Could you not alter the design so that you’re essentially using your footbox as an insulation bag? I’m pretty sure your feet would thank you for it at bedtime? Maybe not your current footbox - maybe alter the prototype bag so that it’s bigger and doubles up as a footbox or as a large hood/tea cosy…

That's definitely something to think about, cheers for that! Maybe that's something I can work on over the course of this year ready for next winter... 🤔🤔🤔. All the best, James 🙏 💚

Good video. Is that an IPK used as ground sheet
@SussexOutdoors
@SussexOutdoors Жыл бұрын
Thank you, glad you enjoyed. That was a German Army groundsheet I was using there. Similar to an IPK cloth, but more like a re-enforced tarp. Doesn't let anything through. 👍🏻

Another good video, That fold away saw seems like a good bit of kit! don;t really need one myself but some of your other viewers might be interested. How about a foil sheet behind you to reflect the heat? Maybe some thing like those you can get for inside of the windshield of your car during hot sunny days? Anyway I enjoyed your vid and the beer looked awesome, no wonder you slept well. Thks for B'day greeting see you in a few weeks.

Glad ive found you. I am too from your neck of the woods, i wonder what that meths burner and pot stand is that you use.
@SussexOutdoors
@SussexOutdoors Жыл бұрын
Thank you for finding my little corner of the Internet! Always happy to give advice! The pot stand is a Lixada titanium pot stand/windbreak and the burner is one made by another KZbinr, Des Cattys. You can find them both (which is where I got mine) at outdoorgearessentials.co.uk. You'll need to make the little pot supports that rest on top of the windshield though (I've seen people use brick ties, tent pegs, or just bits of wire coathanger). Mine are a couple of spare stakes from one of those foldable aluminium windshields I had knocking around. The guy that runs the website is also a local West Sussex chap as well, hence why I'd rather go local than ordering from China! 👍 All the best, James.

Please consider myself as a new subscriber... Will have a wander through your videos a little later! Lockdown was the catalyst for me doing this (not just the KZbin part)... Both my wife and I worked through the whole lockdown from home, in a 1 bed flat... The getting out help us beat the cabin fever! 🤣 Cheers chap! 🙏💚
