This works in the summer for bass, in cover. Boobys with a sinking line don't get snagged so much, but give you a lot more options. I love them

I took up fly fishing this year I fish Chew or Blagdon I normally go every four days weather permitting and I have blanked a few times now especially with the warm weather having said that I still have a freezer full of trout and I give them to my friends. I have found your videos a great help and they have improved my catch rate thank you

Great video Rhys. I have been fishing this method for a few years now using FABs (Boobys are banned) on a four foot leader. This method catches pretty much all year around on numerous waters and it will catch fish when nobody else is catching. However, I inch the flies back vveerrryy slowly. The taps are amazing at times and fish will take a rod top out or on the hang.

After 50 years of fly fishing, I am just now getting in to Booby fishing. I tried out your suggestions and techniques, and I caught more huge fish in one day than I usually catch in a year with traditional rigs. I was very concerned about the trout gulping the fly, but with a faster retrieve, that never happened to me. Excellent video.

...line for this type of fishing or would I be better off with a ‘plain’ DI7/DI8 (8 wt rods) 2. What is the sweep best used for? I’ve caught fish on it in deep water at Grafham using cats whisker snake booby’s but I wondered if it has any better/particular use???
@RhysFishes
@RhysFishes 3 жыл бұрын
The sweep is a better mid water line. There's no need to spend additional money on a line if you already own an 8. The only difference between that and the booby basher is that you will bt default cast further due to how the basher line is built

Thanks Rhys, you do great videos! Just a suggestion, in Spain we typically talk about "mm" for the nylon diameter, or the "x" and I get lost with the pounds as the resistance varies a lot from brand to brand. I would be thankful if you could comment on that in the future 🙂
@RhysFishes
@RhysFishes 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Oscar. It’s habit for us to refer to everything by lb breaking strain in the uk but I’ll note it for future videos and try and include this for international viewers. Thanks for the feedback 🎣
@regularSenseAppeal
@regularSenseAppeal Жыл бұрын
@@RhysFishes It gets even more confusing than that since UK tackle companies are super inconsistent in the way lines are described. They essentially use breaking strain to describe diameter. A 15lbs line is sort of agreed to be around 0.35mm diameter even if it breaks at 22lbs. Other times a 15lbs line can be around 0.40mm and break at 23lbs and anglers will tell you how amazingly abrasion resistant that brand of line is. So line comparisons in UK are usually a case of apples and oranges. As a scandinavian the mind boggles but our dear British friends are traditionalists so likely will stick to the "system" forever.

Rhys when you talk about droppers, is it better to attach extra tippet to the leader or to the point flys hook? Your videos are very helpful and have been so helpful to me... stay safe and many thanks... Richard....
@elisjournal4435

Hey Richard! I've found the most success by attaching leader to the point fly's hook shank. I find that it delivers a clearer hit indication, and it's also much easier to switch out if that dropper nymph isn't getting the job done. Hope that helps!
@RhysFishes
@RhysFishes 3 жыл бұрын
Always add the tippet to the leader. The only time leader to hook would be the go to is if your fishing a dry fly and buzzer.

Depends where in the UK - You can see hatches in mid March/Early April in the southern parts of England. When you get to mid April/early May typically is the best fishing period up north. You are usually looking at the temperature to gauge where it is at. You may see earlier hatches if there is a constant spell of good weather or at least you will see fish swimming closer to the top. If you are river fishing then the brown trout season doesn't start til late March anyway. You are still looking to hit it around mid April but it doesn't hurt to go out earlier if you a prospecting a river looking for good spots.

@@dean529 Thanks for the advice. I'm based in Ireland so our weather patterns would be very close to England's.

Deans provided some solid advice there. In a nutshel all parts of the country differ. For example in scotland i've caught in december on dries. Whereas in wales it won't be until april. The last week of warm weather will definetely have had an impact on the hatches available so don't neglect whats in front of you. As i've said in other videos - fish the conditions 👍

@@RhysFishes thank you for the answer! I have some late nights since I've found your videos, man reeeeaaally nicely explained with a lot of details! :) Maybe you can start like a mini series for this topic. Starting with lake characteristics, what type of soil is under the lake, insects present there...etc. Than go in to rods, lines, leaders. And some patterns that you think it will work, maybe some videos on this topic. Oh and one more thing, congrats on the video with the rods...I must say, a decent approach to buying gear. Keep up the good work man, we can see that you know what you are talking about!

I have been fly fishing for just under 9 month. I was just wondering if there is any effective buzzer setup ups on an 8ft leader as casting long leaders such as a 12ft is pretty challenging for a beginner. I would love to try fishing with buzzers but I normally use lures and boobys, thanks

Really good video mate. See when you’re fishing the 15ft leader with 2x boobies and fishing it back fast on a rolypoly are you allowing the line to sit on the bottom before you retrieve ? I’d have thought the boobies would bottom out on the retrieve but I may be wrong !
@RhysFishes
@RhysFishes 3 жыл бұрын
Play around with depths josh. Could be 5 20ft under the surface or on the deck. The moment you introduce any fast retrieve will mean some elevation in the flies and line to some extent
