Awesome video. I'm 19 and I have a physical condition that keeps me from being able to go out into the wilderness and do these things. Your videos give me a feeling of comfort and freedom. I want you to know that you're really helping people by doing what you're doing. We enjoy everything you do. Thank you. Just watching you experiencing the wilderness gives me a sense of freedom. I love you.

Alex4Lolz Dear Alex, I am in Colorado, USA. I enjoy nature and outdoor adventure and thought that I might suggest a few KZbin channels to investigate. 🎈 G_Bear channel is a man who is building a home himself out in the desert wilds near Tucson, Arizona. He shows ways to live off-the-grid (own power) in the extreme summer heat. 🎈 KennethKramm channel he's an East Texas naturalist, I think. He shows his area and how to prepare camping food! 🎈 Robert_Witham channel he has some looks at the Rubber Tramp Rendezvous in Ehrenburg, Arizona, and the desert lands there. This part of Arizona stays warm all winter so people bring their camping vehicles there to get away from the cold North in the upper US (and from Canada). Some areas you can camp for free all winter on desert land where you have to leave it in summer (TOO HOT!!). 🎈 Hope you can find ways to be outside!! Even camp in a safe area behind your house!! When the weather is okay, we cook outside, listen to the crickets, and sleep under the stars. ⛺

One thing to supplement with your hot water bottle, a thermos. You can boil up the water to keep for a brew etc but also instantly top up your hot water bottle. I've used it while regular camping and its great :)

I enjoyed your film, that's a great wee spot you've found. I do everything that you do save the hot water bottle, though I've often thought about it. I too suffer from cold feet, I used to zip up my down jacket, pull the sleeves inside out and then put it down to the bottom of my sleeping bag with my legs inside, effectively doubling the thickness of the lower third or so of the bag. I haven't been camping for a while, your film inspires me to get out again. I live on the edge of the Cairngorms so no excuses.

Hi andy you sound like you live in a great location, highest point in Peak District is around 2000 feet on Kinder Scout, wish we had your mountains down here. For cold feet while sleeping nothing beats a hot water bottle, will need extra fuel and possibly need heating up in night but worth it for extra warmth at night and knowing that does,nt matter how cold it is you will be warm, thanks for watching and comments Pat

The down booties worked well although needed socks under as they did not feel substantial but that is the lightweight down I suppose. Hopefully won,t be needing them for next few months as weather warms up, be looking at ways of keeping cool then hopefully. All the best Pat

+David Hailwood Hi David The hot water bottle must be one of the cheapest and effective things I have bought just £5 and such a effect. would definitely recommend Exped mattress for winter camping certainly makes a difference, would not contemplate sleeping on snow without one now. I remember once when my windows were so iced up I put a electric radiator on the windowsill to melt it, ended up cracking the glass window, my dad was,nt please at all. Thanks for watching and comments Pat

+David Hailwood Due to cost I've been using the Robens Primacore 6.0 it's about half the cost of a Thermarest or an Exped. The 6.0 is 6cm thick and filled with primaloft for insulation and it's about 500g. I use it with a reflective mat. It's mummy shaped so it fits inside my bivi bag. They also make one that's square and a bit thicker, although it is heavier too. You do gets what you pays for, so it's possibly not as good as the Exped or Thermarest offerings, I've never owned one of the others so I've no way of comparing, but the Robens has worked well for me, and seems to be of decent quality. Just thought I'd mention it, as I personally find the expeds a bit spendy.

only just came across this,, another good way of keeping warm is either making a wind break with natural vegetation or using a frame of old tent pole & old tent material, it doesn't need to be huge just 24"+ high from the ground helps loads.. also if your using any thermal material its best beneath your sleeping bag rather then under the air bed.... I know when I've been out & about I'd rather pick a sot lower down a hill/valley even if it means tenting up early or slightly later then planned.... erm whisky :)

wow forever One of my great experiences was alone in a mountain meadow in Park County, Colorado. A long summer thunderstorm with crashing lightening and driving icy rain. My tent was bouncing, I was holding it down from the inside! Luckily, I had prepared my tent site for rain carefully in advance, so the water flowed 'round the tent, and I stayed dry. It was a little "scary" but thrilling nonetheless...never to be forgotten!!

Currently the kit is about 25Ib without food/water so need to work on that! Also relatively new to the KZbin so its great to see some well put together videos and your attention to detail and experienced knowledge is great. I can relate to the jack frost on the windows - haha giving my age away too! I'm trying to get out most every opportunity in the glorious peak district so hopefully will have chance to catch some warmer wild camps before breaking into a sub zero camp.

+Stephen Turnock hi Stephen you,ve picked a great pastime that will keep you entertained and challenged in summer and winter. your pack sounds a bit heavy especially for summer, tent sleeping bag and even your pack itself might be good areas to reduce weight. For winter I usually end up with around 20 lb, got to have the extra gear to keep warm. So you don,t carry too much heavy water try the sawyer mini filter at around £30 can certainly help not carry water. At the end just get out and enjoy once you,ve carried a heavy pack a few miles you,ll soon reduce it. Thanks for comments and watching Pat
@StephenTurnockMIRPCertRP

+Patrick Dickinson Thanks Patrick. looking closely at the kit its amazing how the weight adds up for individual items. The pack weight is heavy when empty so i guess cheapest is not best. I weighed water and amazed at what that weighs too... sawyer filter on the way. I like the idea of dropping water off! must be great to live in the peaks. I guess i'll be replacing kit as i learn. Hindsight is great! I think I would be ok at keeping warm given your tips. Stephen.

Patrick Dickinson, you are talking about cutting weight but I see you or it appears you are packing a 2.4 kg/5 lbs 5 oz tent. Soulo I believe.
@patrickdickinson6492
@patrickdickinson6492 8 жыл бұрын
Hi Steve, yes the Soulo is quite heavy at 2.4 Ibs but I tend to use the tent in the Oct to March time when I want to be prepared for windy and wintry weather, I also like the space and height the tent gives me. In summer and warmer weather I use a Rab Ridge Raider bivvy which really reduces the weight. i like a bit of comfort so minimal weight is second place comfort more important up to a point. Thanks for comments Pat

Pee bottle my friend, especially after drinking all that booze. Take an empty 1.5 liter plastic bottle with you, when you wake up in the night to pee, or just before you go to bed, pee into the bottle and take that into bed with you. It is lovely and even means that you do not have to get up, get dressed and go outside. also, that bivi bag will also trap some warm air in and prevent any breezes from stealing warm air from the sleeping bag.

My wife and I have a Nordic tipi which has a log-burning stove which is brilliant but not as portable as your gear we’ve had some cracking use out of it . Your a true ambassador for the outdoors and brilliant inspiration, stay strong 💪 Your right about the cold and wet when camping as they are a sure fire way to destroy your enjoyment and put you right off camping.

Hi Patrick.The hottie is great advice.I tried it recently and it's a game changer.Can I suggest a fleece sheet with a zipper. It operates like an inner bag.They are cheap and work well.Best of all it allows you to wear less clothing and makes for a more comfortable experience.I have tried putting the foil in the bag but it produced dampness from sweating on a -3C night. Anyway, I reckon the trick is get off the ground.Heating the Earth requires gallons of top shelf.Keep up the vids.

I've been watching dozens of videos about camping in the depths of winter in northern Canada and other frigid places. I've been amazed that people will spend all the daylight hours setting up camp and collecting tons of firewood to keep warm, when all they need is a small stove to boil water to fill a hot water bottle. Water retains heat wonderfully well. A hot water bottle is something you should never be without when you go camping, in my opinion. It saves a lot of hard work and provides great comfort.

Hi yes like I said they are made by exped, bought mine from a german outdoor store, searched round for a good price, very expensive but I don,t like cold feet. The ones I got were the WB type and they have the outer's so you can walk round outside a little bit and keep your feet dry. Bit of info on sizing my feet are UK 9 and I ordered large far to big so sent them back and got Medium which fit nice. I could imagine a ladies foot maybe be 5 or 6 so small might be best size. Hope helpful Pat

Nice one Patrick I would be lost without my foil mat. They're simple but very efficient. My rab ascent 900 bag is getting a bit too warm now. But was fantastic in the cold. Loving the life saving of the exped..😆 Good video. As per. Atb

+Andy “RAINMAN” Wardle Hi Andy yes a simple bit of foil mat so effective . As shown I put it under my exped partly to reflect heat but also in case something sharp tries to puncture my expensive Exped. I had a roll of refletex to make a pot cozy, its foil with insulation sandwiched between thought of making a mat out of that but was very bulky so think I,ll stick with the simple foil mat I,ve got. Must not let the weight and bulk creep up. Your last video on Blencathra was fantastic I like a bit of risk taking you did well on that one. all the best Pat

Hi Patrick. Great advice. I use a water bottle with a cover on it, just to stop it burning me :-). I've just bought myself an exped 7 like yours. A little tip is to squeeze the one way inlet valve, once you have inflated the bed up. This will re- fill the pump area so that the baffles are equal. Thanks for the video.
