You have done A Wonderful job. It looks great, Dear Sir, try to remember that Noah didn't build The Arch in a day, and he had to collect all the animals to travel with him to start the whole world over again. The rain will weigh down the plastic, and if it snows that will help also. Your new home will be a true blessing to you and your family. I envy you, wish I could be doing the same as you are with your life. And your right it may be a wild boar roaming on your land.

Your neighbour said that your olive tree is sick and that you should prune it. We prune our trees in Jan./Feb. even later but not before, if you want to harvest them for the oil don't prune all of them in the same year because the year you prune them you won't get any olives. We prune them them every other year. The farmers always used to plough under the olive trees but now they don't advise it anymore but to keep the grass cut so that you don't ruin the roots and the grass helps to keep the moist in during the summer months when it doesn't rain.

The neighbour was saying that the olive tree is sick and the olives have been attacked by the worm, then he said that you should do something about the land ( not clear I will listen again later ) he would help but his tractor is broken, and the other olive tree to which he pointed apparently has the same problem…😊
@kbriffa
@kbriffa 16 сағат бұрын
Yep that’s what he said. I understood vento not verme but basically the tree is sickly. He also said the olives are small hence why he suggested you prune the tree as you wrote in your description. I prune mine every two years. Best time is right after the olives have been harvested or have dropped. Try to prune the branches that are pointing inwards or brushing against each other. The wind needs to flow easily through the branches to discoursge pests and rubbing of branches against each other can cause olive knot due to the exposed bark.

Hello Richard, I have to say that I am so glad that you decided to do the KZbin, it has been incredible being able to follow along with everything you have done. It can't be easy to film everything, but you truly have a wonderful way of being able to talk to us like very few other people can. You have done so much in one year considering that you are living in the UK and I can't wait to see how things develop in the new year. I hope that you have a wonderful New Year's with your family and friends and that black flapping fabric is not the only thing that you are able to think about. Safe travels and Happy New Year.❤️

Also it is a joy to see your love and proudness about your beautiful daughters. I wish I would have had a dad like that, it gives those young people such strong support to tackle live and career! Your landscaping and drainage project, I find very smart and well executed. It has lots of appeal and will increase the value of your estate tremendously, also I don’t see why you ever would want to put this hide away ever for sale!😄 I wish you and your family the very best and good health, a very Happy New Year from AB, 🇨🇦

Genets are a very old species of cat like creatures and came from Africa over 1,000yrs ago. They are generally solitary and can live up to 20years. Because they are quite rare, some municipalities encourage reported sightings to document their presence. They're not aggressive. If you see one, it's considered good luck. You're privileged! Safe trip home. Love your videos. Rest and relax. See you next year!

Apparently they're very rare, in fact I'd say that is more likely it was a Feral Cat not a Genet. As long as there's no plans to set a barn with hens or pigeons, there will be no problem with those little wild animals around, they can be good help to control rodents.

If you like to make garden life 200% easier, get a dual handle bar and proper harness for that strimmer/brushcutter! I use both and only use the single loop handle type for a quick line trim in tight places and my arms are ready to fall off after 15 mins, with the proper handles and harness i can manage 3 hours without breaks. Added bonus of far better control of the cutter. Wish you all the best for the new year. :)

20:30 no need to apologize, filming everything is a work of it’s own. When you are doing “boring” stuff like strimming or doing the geotextile the 3rd time, it could be a good option to timelapse (or just speed up afterwards) from a more overlooking POV. Nice progress again and I can fully ujderstand how hard it must be to have to leave.

Hi Richard. Thank you for your program. Great job! Hint: We find it helpful to make BIG DENTS(moulds) under the matting and as we go to put the mat over the top then immediately place a concrete block/large rock on top. We found pegs alone didn't hold. The moulded ground prevents the rocks from ever slipping, even in high winds we get here in Oatlands Tasmania/Australia. Love your program. And please, visit here when you are in Aus! Lara and Michael

Richard, if those 2 trees have solid wood that will provide a support structure for 19-20 years you could grow several climbers up over them to act as replacement foliage. Wisteria would be great if they grow ok in the area. Vigorous clematis species, rambling rose cvs, hops, Campsis radicans (perfectly hardy to -25⁰C in free-draining soils), Actinidia sp (Chinese Gooseberry or 'Kiwi Fruit') and plenty of others. You could replant trees infront/behind and as they fill the space you could gard prune and retrain the climbers. Just a thought for the mix 👍😊 Oh! and don't forget you could start propagating shrubs/perennials to save money - many are surprisingly easy to do 👍

Three acres to whip into shape is hard work. It never seems to end. The real difficulty with successfully establishing plants/trees on your new terraces, is the soil type. Clay is like concrete and not ideal. Best to ask the nursery for the best native species to put in that suit your area, conditions and soil type. Making your plant selection based on what looks pretty, is perhaps not the best strategy as with the wrong species, you'll likely have a drainage problem around the root balls which may cause rotting. Btw I think you did a great job of understanding your neighbour and if you can have a conversation in Italian with him, then you're going great guns for someone who doesn't live in Italy full time. I don't think you need anyone to translate for you and the more opportunities you have tp practice speaking the language, obviously the easier and more pleasurable life is. Have a great 2025.

I just got back from Puglia on the 9th December and I know what you mean about missing the place. I'm English but I get homesick for Italy when I'm not there. I tried to take a non toll route once I'd reached Northern Italy to the tunnel in Calais. I headed to Basel, then Metz, then towards Brussels and Calais. It was partially successful and I think it will work well, with a little bit of tweaking. I also found a nice two bed apartment in Niederdiegten, Switzerland, with free EV charging. It was very reasonably priced and a good place to take an overnight break. Hopefully I will get a chance to call by next year and help out for a day or two. Best wishes for 2025

😅yep the fabric will be in your neighbour's property within a few weeks 😂 not sure why you are covering the slopes as any vegetation will help to stabilise the area and help with potential wash out from heavy rain. A low cost solution here is to seed with a resilient grass mix ASAP after the batter is formed. Happy winter travel back to UK. GH, ( ACT -AUS).

If you have a lot of underbrush to clear, it could be worth hiring a chipper, as you'll end up with some good material for mulching for paths/weed suppression/moisture conservation round trees. Plus it breaks down & feeds the soil (& that soil on the terraces looks like it needs all the help it can get...). Treat that fabric as very temporary, else it'll end up with fallen leaves & stuff on top & before you know it, the weeds are growing on top & rooting through.

That black roll for the banks, looks a loot like textile-ish weed control fabric i've used in my garden as well. If it yes, it wont stand up to the weather. I think mine was there for about 2 years, at which point it started to deteriorate and break up. I never covered it up with gravel/wood chips/etc.. and i think that really killed it. Anyways, very nice series Richard. Well done. Happy New Year and my your 2025 be great.

the landscape fabric looks really good - considering the wind you've got there - and you're right about doubling it up and making it taut to stop the ripples starting from the mountain wind side....we tried using fabric with just weights (don't know where I saw it back then but that's how THEY did it) and no way does that stand up against any wind! (the weights kinda slide over the fabric as the wind whips it around right?) Anyhow, there's no such thing as too many of those landscape "pins" - and, in fact, you can make your own with a heavyish weight wire from the building store (SO cheap! )....Merry Christmas and safe travels!
