Awesome video Cliff, you had a go with it all, from Motor to SUP paddle to Kayak paddle. Such a shame you had to come across other peoples rubbish, why the hell don't they take it home with them. Makes me angry. However the beautiful views calmed me down.

Hey 👋 Thanks for watching and commenting Richard! Have you tried that?? Compared to a flat bottom hull, I think there is less moving resistance with the PaddleSki’s integrated side pontoons that lift up the center portion of the hull above the water for far less moving resistance. It certainly smooths out the ride in chop with the elevated pontoons. Have a great week! PaddleSki - Website page - bit.ly/33PbnFH My review of the PaddleSki - kzbin.info/www/bejne/b5mTc6KAnp2LoKs

@@KayakCliff I've done the ply board routine on an inflatable cat (Takacat lx 380) and the speed and economy is better, despite the extra weight. The tubes plough, not plane, with the elevated floor. Curve the front from side to side, of course, and some varnish.

I have the 14.5 foot version of this boat. 8hp 2 stroke. with a Foil. I added a Ply wood Deck and epoxide sealed it. I installed tie down cleats to the deck. I inflate the floor threw the deck via a whole. i throw down exterior carpet. Adds a tune of Stiffness to the boat. also helps with gear not flopping around. I have found it much easier to stand on a hard deck vs soft floor for longer periods of time. THe issues with these boats is the flat floor. If its not inflated right it causes a suction bubble from about the transom to about 3 feet forward. now i can go from stopped to full throttle and not cavitate or get stuck with a bow pointing to the moon.

Thanks for sharing your story! Glad you found something that works out for you. I have not had the issues that you have, I really have had fun using the boat stock. I just inflate the floor to 10 psi and the pontoons to 3.2 psi and off she goes! Again, no problems at all. Love the boat.

Very nice, been thinking or buying that rig. I’m a little surprised to see you in cotton clothing. That can be dangerous if you fall in. After more than four decades and thousands of miles paddling kayaks, I can assure you that you will fall in the water at some point. Get a book or reread the one you have on kayak safety, some guides up north won’t alloy you on there tours with any cotton clothing. Cotton will stay wet and will not wick water: hypothermia is a real risk. Happy paddling!

Hello cliff central tx guy here in killeen tx, does this boat need to be registered on Texas waters? I'm guessing maybe yes because of the motor, your input would be helpful. Another ? What 12 volt pump do you use.

Hi, sorry for the delay in getting back to you! Here is the pump I use, it is awesome and really fast! Air Inflation Pumps: alnk.to/9btN2h3 Yes, you do need to register in Texas. Mine is registered, since you can’t stick registration to the hull, I have my applied to special plastic plates designed for inflatable boats where you just zip tie them to the D-rings. I often just have the plates laying in the boat, officers have never minded when I told them, here are the registration plates, I just forgot to bring my zip ties with me on this trip 👍

@@KayakCliff Thanks Cliff... I was thinking of props and shear pins with those submerged logs and stumps. Is there a small electric trolling outboard that you could rig to the bow, like on fishing boats, if you needed to limp back to the takeout ramp?
@KayakCliff
@KayakCliff 4 ай бұрын
@gorrdd I have seen some people put a trolling motor on the bow, but that's not for me. I don't fish. It's a saltwater boat, not really designed for setting up like a bass boat. I just take it easy in the backcountry areas and use my onboard GPS maps that are preloaded to the Garmin.

How is the paddle ski holding up?
@KayakCliff
@KayakCliff 3 ай бұрын
I'm going on three years now and has held up extremely well! I know one person up in the north east who has a couple paddle skis that are around 10 years old, with about 600 uses. The key is to dry them properly and store them in a nice climate controlled space rolled up. Also, protect them with 303 UV protectant. Thanks for another inspiring video Cliff! Lakes are a bit frozen over here in Colorado at the moment. Curious on your thoughts using the electric versus gas motor on the 437? Also wondering if you have tried the Bixpy on the 437? Try to watch all your videos, but do not remember if you tried the Bixpy on the 437. Keep up the great work!
@KayakCliff
@KayakCliff 10 ай бұрын
Hi Gil - I have the Waterside 70 lb thrust and the 5hp Honda gas motor for my PaddleSki. If you want to go fast and far, then the gas is the best option. One person will get to 15-16 mph with 5 - 6 HP gas motor and with two people, about 12 mph. With the 70 lb thrust motor and 100Ah Lithium battery - you will bet 5 - 6 mph. I'm going to do a video soon to show how far you can go on a full charge. My guess is 20 ish miles with varied use on a fully charged 100Ah lithium battery. In my opinion, the Bixpy wouldn't work because you would have to mount it on one pontoon, which would not be balanced and might affect the performance of the boat. Have a great week! @@KayakCliff If I remember correctly, Bixpy offers an optional transom mount adapter for their motor. If so, it would work fine on the 437. Not sure if anyone has tried that combo.
@KayakCliff
@KayakCliff 10 ай бұрын
@gilfolsom5980 hey Gil, that is a great point! Yes, they do have a transom mount which would allow you to center the Bixby motor in the middle of the boat. I'm sure that would work fine. I think the thrust poundage with the Bixby is probably around 30 pound thrust? Not sure though, need to look that up. If so, it would probably move the paddle ski about 2.5 - 3 mph.

@@KayakCliff Might be a cool video to show different motor comparisons on the 437, and others for the Fast track and Explorer models!
@KayakCliff
@KayakCliff 10 ай бұрын
@gilfolsom5980 it would be a cool video with all of those comparisons, just have to get all those motors though lol. On the explorer and the fast track, I think I only like a center mounted motor like the Bixby. As soon as you mount a side, mounted transom to those two boats, the tracking and turning performance goes down substantially. The boat also lists to the transom side which also alters performance.

Great video Cliff. I especially love the drone close up shots of you on the 437ps. Did you video those yourself? Where is Winter Island? It seemed a mix of conditions from very flat to average wind. I'd love to be able travel at 5HP. If I went out alone, that would be possible. With a front passenger, on an average day the bow would be lowered by their body weight and the waves would crash over it getting them wet and my passengers always complain about that. Going at slow speeds, not as much a problem. The lakes around here I go to alone plenty, but they aren't big enough that I"d really benefit too much with a 5HP over the 3HP electric. At other further away day trips it would be a lot more useful, but I'm not usually alone on my boat traveling to them. Between an hour or two away there are many exciting places including Cape Cod & Newport RI. I haven't tried using mine as a SUP yet. I don't really trust my balance that much to stand up on a boat this small and I'm afraid I'll loose my glasses. I could wear my contacts, but usually don't unless I'm planning on swimming. Oddly, I'm very confident skiing, and I seemed to be a natural at water skiing the 2 times I tried it. My iSUP (a cheap one) has only been used 3 or 4 times in 9 years, unlike my Sea Eagle boats/kayaks that are "over" used.
@KayakCliff
@KayakCliff 10 ай бұрын
Thanks so much! As I get older, I try to add more and more balance routines to my regimen. You definitely want to strengthen your balancing muscles as you get older, if you don't, it's all over. That being said, the 437 PS is very easy and very doable to stand up in, give it a try sometime! Get one of those snug fitting retention cords for your glasses, they work great!
