With the water temparatures dropping and a break in the wind and swells, I decided to take the lure tackle and fish for big pollack and cod. Some big fish were landed and maybe some bigger ones lost, but all-in-all it was an excellent day of lure fishing.

Nice boat mate. Back in 1983 (15yrs old) my brother and I asked for a fishing boat for Christmas - never thinking for one minute we’d get one. Christmas morning we woke up to a 16 footer with a decent size cabin on too. We were spoiled that year. It’s long gone now but I have real fond memories of it. Great channel btw. 👍

Thats the first time ive ever seen anyone using the reverse wind on a spinning reel. We use gulp softbaits in New Zealand for snapper, we use much lighter jigheads 3/8 oz up to 30 metres. We cast ahead of the drift, with the boat moving towsrds the decrnding softbait. Lots of fun we eat the fish we catch

you had your frustrating moments, but what a good days fishing, especialy knowing there was double figure fish down there, to me thats what boat fishing is all about, I wish the fish stocks were so good that you could catch them, doubles, from the shore, as you said,
@SlippyLimpets

I've caught the grand total of 3 double pollack from the shore in 15 years of trying so totally agree about the fish stocks. I reckon I was within casting distance from the shore so will defo be trying that mark with some metals, could be impossible to land, with all the structure there, but worth a try. Sounds amazing! I'm always supprised that you never see oics of huge, norway-esque, pollack seems like they're the smaller of the species availble there. I've seen a few vids of people catching bass in Norway, but they tend to be on the north sea coastline
@sandersson2813
@sandersson2813 8 ай бұрын
@@SlippyLimpets I'm putting it down to the Norwegian attitude. They seem to turn their noses up at sea fishing , especially shore fishing (seems to just be immigrants like me and Poles/Hungarians etc). They only seem to sea fish from boats. They're mostly about Salmon and Trout. Just started a new job though which gives me access to lakes and salmon rivers so next year should be interesting.
@SlippyLimpets
@SlippyLimpets 8 ай бұрын
Ah, that makes sense, they have so much water that owning a boat seems like a necessity. Congrats on the new job, would love to get a few salmon under my belt. A species I've seen but never hooked into.

You seem to be struggling with your rods underfoot.I have four rod holders,they are a black enclosed tube with a drain hole inthe bottom.They have a triangular top with 3 fixing holes in.The advantage of them is they are angled.I have 4 in a line,the two outers are angled out so the rods all fish seperate.Perfect for fishing at anchor.

So Nathan ...the question is which do you prefer the most so far bearing in mind ya only had the boat for a short time ? ....is it fishing from the shore ? ya Kayak ? or the Boat ?...I have done all 3 ...for me it would be the = boat /kayak/shore (rocks)..only killer was with the boat was the cost of mooring fees or were to launch it for free ...and where to store it if not in a marina ..over to you on the above .

I don't like the taste of pollack but they make excellent sport fish. I've caught the same fish 3 years in a row ( it had a unique scar on its flank) so know that catch and release works. But, if they do die after release then at least they're feeding the marine ecosystem and food chain rather than being taken away from it. Thanks for the comment👍🎣
@garyweston5116
@garyweston5116 8 ай бұрын
I doubt the original statement's veracity very much; 'majority' of fish do not die when released after being landed right. Research by several marine science based groups show that this is a myth. Catch and release is a data-supported positive, that stands up under scrutiny. I would suggest that you do not seek out a dedicated fishing channel that observes this as a fundamental basis for what he does, and then try a grandiose and negative statement - it belies your intent and negates your argument.
