Remember, if you can't heat your home/vehicle etc, heat YOURSELF. Eat/drink something hot. Have warm bedding. Wear the right clothing and outerwear (non-cotton long underwear, Darn Tough merino socks, wool or fleece layers, something waterproof on top of you're outside. Layer up. Don't forget your hat! If your boots/shoes are not waterproof, put on a pair of wool socks, a plastic bag without holes, and cover it with another pair of socks and you'll have dry feet. Always sleep in a new, dry pair of socks. Have the proper wood processing tools if you are down to heating with wood - saws, hatchets, axes, sharpening tools and gloves/eye protection.

It's great to have sleeping bags! I definitely keep it in my car in the winter! And at home I have more sleeping bags than my family needs! There should always be a reserve! And this also applies to warm clothes, blankets and bathrobes (I don’t know why bathrobes are never mentioned in the list of what should be. It’s very convenient in the winter💯! And socks - yes!! Everyone advises having a lot! So recently my son lives separately from us in an apartment on the third floor, there was a fire at night on the floor above! everyone ran out of the building in what they were wearing (and it’s winter) and my son’s friend lives in the same building. so everyone came out without socks and took the most important thing! when it became clear that everyone is serious, of course they came to see their mother👏 I was glad to warm up my children and I’m glad that I have warm bathrobes! and socks! so friends, don’t relax! the bathrobes last a long time! and are very warm!🧡🧡🧡

For the flash lights I would suggest a small solar panel with USB, so you can recharge the flash light's battery.

I use deep cycle batteries connected into a alternative power connection into the house for power failures and use LPG heater, stove and fridge. Because it is pitch dark during power failures at night I have heard cars pull up stopped idling at the front of my house from me having the house lit up. I watched one prepper channel that said to get blockout curtains to stop that from happening (unwanted attention). Also good hearing you saying to get Carbon Monoxide sensors with burning fuels inside. It is a must have and life saving.

You are absolutely right! you need to think about how to hide the light from strangers! I have Velcro glued on the windows and, if necessary, I can stick the same Velcro on blankets or a fairly strong material and stick it to the windows!

Also with regards to the generator and solar charge power stations 😉 it's not a bad idea to use a quiet suitcase type Honda generator to charge up the ol' power station battery bank during daylight hours if it's raining and noisy, neighbors might not think much beyond someone using a generator to charge up power tools or run a pump, discretion works

@@johnmachter40 I bought a Böhmer AG suitcase type from Amazon a couple years ago and the nearest equivalent for both cost and performance now is a Hyundai P1000i but I'm pretty sure there's quieter models available, main thing is a generator running for a few hours during the day might be dismissed/ignored by most folks especially if it's running well below it's load just charging up batteries etc instead of running full capacity screaming like a dirtbike doing donuts

I have a butane catering stove, colman propane stove, backpack stove, charcoal wood grill, and toaster oven, air fryer and electric fry pan that will run on my inverter also a 12 volt crock pot. We have 2 generators a 4k that stays in the truck and a 10k at our bugout location with 250 gallon propane tank. Luckily winter is not an issue for us summer is our issue it's hot in the south.

If you need food, do not overlook Dollar Tree for rice and beans, and bouillon, and Dollar General for canned meats. People forget these places keep these foods in stock, and most likely will have supplies when the big stores run low. You may also find some good food supplies at Lowe’s, Menards, and other big hardware stores in their food sections. Pet food, also. These places are also usually well stocked on paper goods, as well.

You probably would want to go with the baby wipes, if you’ve ever taken a cold shower in the dead of winter, it’s no fun. An alternative would be a spray bottle filled with warm water, and a little soap and washcloth.

Been meaning to get some more isobutane for my jetboil. Walmart's brand actually ranks high in terms of efficiency based on a video comparing a bunch of different ones, about 7$ locally in Wisconsin. Rice, beans, water first, indeed.

Thanks George, another great video with tons of useful information. For winter preps I would add handwarmers. I use a Peacock handwarmer which runs for 24 hours on one fill. I also have an electronic hand warmer which runs for 12 hours. Both work great!! Of course, you could use the disposable hand warmers as well. I have a small solar panel (25 watts) to charge my hand warner and small electronics. Soups are great to start storing before winter. I recently bought Mrs. Grass Soups (founded 1912) which makes a 1/2 gallon of soup in one package.

Collecting wood as able. The fuel alone is harder and harder to find for the heater and burners. Close windows with generators outside. Here it's noisy with gas generators during frequent outages.

I would suggest D cell batteries. A heap of them. I bought a case (72 ea) for $100. When you want a battery...ya want heaps of BIG batteries. Last 6-7 times longer than stupid AA's and AAA's. Flour, Oil, Sugar & Salt. When the going gets tough, the tough makes donuts.

Hi Iridium. I'm enjoying your videos. This one is really good. I'm in San Diego and I don't need to heat my home in winter. But it doesn't mean I don't need propane tanks, various size, and fuels. I have 2 burner camp stove propane and planning to get other stoves like butane. I have gas stove in home but no good if gas gets shut off during a situation. So yo I r video helped me learn more about stove other than propane. Thanks

I've found that Fjallraven is a great brand for winter gear. It can get pricey but it definitely lasts from my experience with it. A good jacket, midlayer and marino wool base layer is always a great investment if you life in cold climates, but always look into the brand, my preference is always one that started off supplying fisherman or old mountain expeditions, and supply arctic explorers.

Thank you for your video. The only thing I'm not prepared for is a solar event such as an EMP, (Electro-Magnetic Pulse) This could be caused by a detonated nuclear device in our atmosphere as well. CME's (Coronal Mass Ejection) The sun is acting up something wicked right now and with our weakening "force field" called our Magnetosphere, a moderate event could fry every electric device on the face of the planet. Not to mention light every house on fire. It's called the Grand Solar Minimum, a 400 year sun cycle that has never boded well for humans. Do your own research. Can we say "The New Stone Age" people? Sure a faraday cage would protect your radio from an EMP, but what could you listen to? Walkie talkies would be handy though. A couple of CB's maybe, but I don't have them and who would I talk to? Myself? I already do that enough thank you. (Yer welcome) See? Commie Canada here, we're not allowed to get meds we don't need RIGHT NOW! The best I can do is freaking Polysporin, Hydrogen Peroxide and Band Aids. Still, in my decrepit old age, "Aleve" is a god send. Naproxen it's also called. I stock those things with some cough and flu meds. Hard Cough drops are good too eh? I go through footwear like there's no tomorrow. I have some good leather shoes stashed and a couple of pair of the good old rubber boots. I'll bite the bullet and buy a great pair of winter boots soon. Look up Roman Marching Socks for an alternative to our current form of stockings. I have enough fuel to run the genny for two hours twice a day to keep the freezers frozen for two weeks while I can up my three freezers. One freezer is a small economical one that I could run off the small solar system I have stashed. I also have a 600 watt wind power but you'd never get that wattage out of the thing unless the conditions were perfect, your cables huge, and the thing so close you'd hear it when it wasn't running. Four years ago I never thought I could get what I now have. The Gulag of Poverty is a harsh place for some. Have a great one and good luck.

Ham radio for emergency band and to communicate to see what's going on. A hand held for portable and and mobile for both home base and vehicle. You should not underestimate the value of communication.....this is a huge mistake your taking it for granted atm. You will regret no having coms or a way to tell what's happening in the outside world...danger or threats. I also build a Faraday cage(using a metal trash can and cardboard electrical tape). Keep my important electronic in.
