My uncle David, used to fish Jacksons Bay in the 50s, and used to catch half a sack of cod, l saw some amazing photos, he used to cycle down from the Rhondda, fish and cycle home, he was as strong as a ox. Great vlog again take care Gareth. 👌🐟🇫🇷👍💪💪💪

Hi Albert, nice to hear from you again. Yes, sounds like your uncle was a very strong man, cycling all that way and back, that's impressive! And I bet those photographs you're talking about are impressive, great memories! When Dad and I used to fish it in the 80's, we used to get some lovely Cod off there and the Whiting were crackers...sadly not so common these days. As always, many thanks for watching 👍👍🐟

I do like Jackson bay Gareth its a pretty good mark on its day, I was down there a few weeks back and fishing a flapper rig on one rod in close and big baits out at distance on the other rod and to be honest the big bait rod I didn't even have a tap on but the flapper rod it was fish a cast all being whiting and doggies but as you've said before a fish is a fish......it beats the blank......lol it is fairly quiet on the catch reports lately just the odd one or two decent fish......but it is nice just to be out.... keep up the good work.... tight lines..... all the very best 👍

Thanks for the vid Gareth really enjoyed it was nice to see Jacksons bay again. I havent been there in like 25 years, though back in 1995 I was fishing off the rocks below the path at the beginning of the vid and using ragworm dipped in a "seafood cocktail" carp bait flavouring and caught a lobster just short of 9lb, it was huge. I didn't know they even got that big.

Thank you Stephen, I appreciate it. Nice to hear that you'll be taking up sea fishing this summer, that's great. Two easy marks to start with which don't involve much walking are St Brides and Goldcliff. You can just park up, walk up the steps and you're on the seawall. Newton Beach at Porthcawl is the same and also the Knap in Barry, little walking involved. Good luck 👍👍

I was there only yesterday, but all my rigs got tangled and the tied pulled back and i had to chace it across the rocks, luckly it didnt got far, the lighthouse breakshore was closed off and off limits, so me and mum had to climb over the railings on the other side, finaly after no fish the storm blew in and we were nearly blown off the rocks, another atempt to catch my 1st loved flatfish bites the dust.. but i'll be back soon enough when the weather gets better.. the rigs i used i made myself, being a short foot long 55lb line "which made sure i got my rigs back from snags thankfully" it was a swivel link with a cliplink for the weight, with a line lead beads between sequins and cloured beads, x3 pairs.. with a space between leading to a half cork holding up my squid and mackeral baits on a size 1/0 hook.. i only got nibbles but held a foot off the bottom i can't have been the craps, but i fear it was too long and hooks to big for the target flaties.. so my next rig will be atampted. look for ward to trying there again.. hopefully in less windy and wet weather..

@riversidewithme 2 жыл бұрын
Hi, thanks for the message. Well done on braving the weather yesterday, it certainly did turn nasty from late afternoon onwards and last night was very stormy. I managed to fish the morning tide at Newport before the weather got really bad and packed up just in time. Good that you made your own rigs, I also make my own, I quite enjoy rig making, especially after a tough day at work. Shame you didn't catch any fish but I'm sure your next session will be more productive and you'll definitely get a Flatfish sooner or later (if you watch my 'The Old Faithful' video and I catch some nice Flounder in that one...the rivers/estuaries are probably your best option if you're looking to catch these) Hopefully conditions will start to improve soon and you can try again. The fishing is a little quiet at the moment around the Bristol Channel but it will get better shortly and more fish will be caught. Thank you for watching, much appreciated 👍👍

Looked like a lovely place to fish but only small fish on the day. Does it fish better at night or after a blow. Such a contrast to the Brixham video where there were fish practically every cast but if it was that good all the time it would take the edge of the fun. I am sure that you know what I mean.
@riversidewithme
@riversidewithme 2 жыл бұрын
Hi David. Yeah talk about chalk and cheese when comparing to Brixham, it's a different world down there, many more fish in the sea. Jackson's Bay, in my opinion, is a better night venue, although at the moment lots of venues on the Welsh side of the Channel are really quiet, we all seem to be struggling. Hopefully it will pick up soon but as you say, if it was a fish a cast every session then I guess it would get boring. As always, many thanks for watching 👍👍

Thanks mate, appreciate it. I've done a video on Trecco Bay which you may find useful...best fished at night. To the left of it you've got Newton Point which you can fish on low water in the daytime or at night. And to the left of that you've got Newton Beach...again I've done a video on this mark on. All of these marks will be walkable from the Trecco Bay holiday site. Slightly further, going the other way, you've got Pink Bay and next to that is Sker Point which is another low water mark. Hope that helps 👍👍

Hi Simon. You park at Nell's Point carpark and walk around to Jackson's Bay via the footpath, will take around 10/15 minutes. To get onto the breakwater you will need to walk around the railings at the top of the rocks, take your time. Then just walk along the breakwater and pick your spot. Hope that helps 👍👍

Like everywhere else at the moment, Sully is producing lots of blanks. My mate fished it last week and had 2 bites in 5 hours and he's a good angler. Out of the anglers on there that day, 1 Conger was caught, not a Cod in sight.

Just want to pick your brains a bit Gareth, how difficult is the access to this mark?
@riversidewithme
@riversidewithme 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Wayne. Firstly, the parking situation has changed recently. You could used to park along Redbrink Crescent and walk down the footpath but this road is now a residential parking zone. You can still park on the right-hand side of the road but only for 2 hours. So, I now park in the main Barry Island carpark and walk around the bay, takes around 10 to 15 minutes. To access the breakwater where I am in the video, you need to walk around the railings via the rocks. Personally I find it ok as I've been doing it for years, although those with mobility issues may not fancy it. Alternatively, you can fish the other side of the bay off the flatter rocks (can be a little slippery at times so good footwear needed) .You can also fish off the beach but keep that for early mornings or late evenings as it can get busy during the daytime. Hope that helps, cheers 👍👍

@@riversidewithme I thought that it may be a little more complicated than it appears, which is why I thought best to get some more info. Since I made this video, the parking above this mark is now for residential permit holders only. So I suggest you park in Nell's Point Carpark and walk via the footpath, takes around 10/15 mins. You'll need to climb around the railings when you arrive at the start of the breakwater and so take your time. Then you can walk along and pick your spot.

Hi Mike, right at the very end of the breakwater there is water all of the time but I wouldn't advise you fish there. You can fish where I was in the video from around 4 hours before high water. I tend to fish it around 3/4 hours before high and 1 hour after. Cheers 👍👍
