Sam was the one who convinced me to start doing 30-40 minutes of decently low-intensity cardio before every lift, and since I started my cut two months ago, I’ve dropped from an unhealthy 255 to a much better-feeling 233, and I am on pace to reach 218 by the end of the year, and my goal weight of 200 flat by February. Sam’s an inspiration and I’m glad I get to have access to his channel for daily doses of motivation and a lesson on pure discipline.

in terms of getting the "right" protein, as far as I know those protein quality charts are pretty accurate for muscle gain, but its important to distinguish that ranking from that of healthy ranks. some VERY recent studies (last couple years) shows too much of certain proteins (cystine, methionine and BCAA's) can increase your risk of heart disease. the irony is not lost on me commenting this on a video of an equipped bodybuilder but every little helps and having a balance of dairy protein, white meat protein, red meat protein, fish and plant proteins will help your heart out immensely great video as always sam

I came to this channel because I heard you are a good motivator and were a good source of information about weights. It was suggested that I start lifting weights for bone density problems and I needed some kind of direction as my husband does not lift. Since I am old enough to be your grandmother and never ever posted a comment on the internet, I felt extremely uneasy, lost and looking for validation. The internet was just becoming a "thing" when I was your age. I wasn't sure if my comments were clear or if I accurately stated my point without mentioning private matters. I also wanted to feel part of the community. I gave it my best shot (although I feel I failed). I have felt inadequate in the gym and know I am being judged. It is difficult for me to get over that feeling. In previous comments I have asked for your help in motivating me to stay on task with hydration and cardio. You appear to want to give the guys motivation for these topics. Since I am not a bodybuilder nor powerlifter, I am wondering what I am to do and how that applies to me. I want nothing more than to help myself with my health problems. It's been a nightmare so far and I feel like just tossing the towel in and letting the chips fall where they may. I do need a good dose of motivation especially for hydration. It is once again getting hard for me to keep up with it. Any help you can give would be welcomed.
@5stixxxАй бұрын
Sam doesn’t read these Judy. Sorry. But I myself do nutrition and diet planning if you’d need help with that.
@Orange_OutanАй бұрын
Hi there, I may not be Sam, but as a fitness enthusiast myself for many years and having coached my fair share of people to better shape, there are a couple things I thought I could help you with Judy; First, you've taken the hardest step in taking your health into your own hands, which is the first one, so even if it may seem trivial for you, congratulations ! I can guarantee you that you are not judged in the gym as you imagine, in 99% of cases, regular gym goers love to see elderly /or out of shape people join and put in real effort to better themselves, you'd be surprised to learn that usually the biggest guys are the most enthusiastic ones about that ! About the hydration, I know it gets tricky with age to stay properly hydrated, so I would recommend setting a minimum amount and maximum (ideal) amount that you would like to drink everyday. The minimum amount should be divided by the number of meals you're having each day (for example, if the minimum is 1 liter, then over the course of three daily meal, each would be accompanied by 1/3 liter, and don't leave the table until the allocated water has been drunk for that meal). Then to reach the maximum level (ideal) please consider carrying or always having close by a water bottle that you occasionnaly sip on : when you see it you'll be reminded to sip and over the course of the day it makes it much more likely that you will reach your goal in that regard (obviously that water bottle is to be taken to the gym for cardio/lifting sessions). About cardio, I would recommend picking the modality that is the easiest for you to regularly do, maybe that's a bike a home that you can ride while watching a tv series, maybe that's a treadmill at the gym during which you can listen to a podcast you like or music , the important thing being that to make it less tedious, try to link the cardio modality to an activity that you look forward to (tv series, podcast...) and that you ONLY watch/listen to when you're doing cardio, it will give you an extra incentive to complete the activity ! About weigths, honestly as you're trying to retain muscle mass as much as possible, bodybuilding principles apply very well, that style trains pretty much every muscle in the body through a wide range of motion, ideal in your case ! If you do not already have a programm, you can find free ones for beginners online, along with video explanations for all exercises on youtube, very much like Sam's content, or shorter and more to the point. The important would be for you to focus on compound exercises that train several muscle groups together and stay consistent with your plan, however many days you feel you can actually train each week (one good session/week is already a solid first step in order to not get overwhelmed) If you struggle with technique for an exercise, please do not hesitate to ask for form advice from one of the big guys, I can guarantee they will be delighted to help out (after all, this is their main passion) Aside from that, please ensure that you eat sufficient protein to fuel your progression ( you do not need to eat nearly as much as bodybuilders do, a little bit at each meal will go a long way !) I wish you all the best in your journey and it really is never too late to start !!
