@@AbdulMajeed-uk9mn Im Turk and I don't like most Turkish tv series. They contain a lot of clichés. But if I could suggest a few of my favorite shows(You may not find all of them with English subtitles): 1) Yedi Numara 2) Leyla ile Mecnun 3) Masum 4) Şahsiyet You should try these. Also Kurtlar Vadisi is a serie similar genre of Ramo. I hate Ramo but first 93 episodes of Kurtlar Vadisi were perfect. You may like it.

the sentiments that you're talking about coming from islam mysticism philosophy, actually filmmakers are secular persons and they are describing those religious people as a narrow-minded; i am saying this as a turkish citizen, it's not the reason of bad movies of turkey. there is also good movies about islamic turkish culture like ''ulak''. this is about what turkish people want to watch, that's why turkish movies are bad. it's not about culture, i'm a panentheist, trust me islam culture is so valuable for turkish literature. and there is a quote from v for vendetta about denying those philosophical sentiments from the main source of the islam(quran) ''Gordon Deitrich: I didn't have to be Muslim to find the images beautiful, or its poetry moving.''

Great movie. A bit long, but very meaningful nonetheless. It resembles shakesperean and chechovian plays, while it remains original by giving an exemplary lesson on how to present multi-dimensional, intimate and realistic characters. Additionally, I loved the successful juxtaposition of Cappadocia's landscapes with the mood of those characters. My pick for the best foreign film of 2014.

"Nihal, I didn't go away. I couldn't. Whether it's because I've grown old, or I've gone mad, or because I've become a different man, think what you like. I just don't know. But this new man inside me for a few days won't let me go away. Please, don't ask me to go either. I now understand nothing is calling me to Istanbul. Everything is alien to me there as it is everywhere else. I want you to know that I have no one but you. And I miss you every minute, every second that goes by. But my pride will never let me tell you this. I know very well how terrible or impossible it would be to part from you. Just as I know that you do not love me anymore. I know we can't go back to the old days. And there is no need to. Take me with you like a servant, like a slave. And let us continue our life even if we do it your way. Forgive me." 💔

***** This is the beginning of a paper I wrote on about this film; I absolutely love it, and the film is fantastic in that it doesn't have a beginning and an end; it is life itself, before you; real and brutal. So here it is, to give you some perspective; "Winter Sleep’s reflection upon the inability for human connection between the wealthy and those less fortunate, dominates its study of failure, and thus, success. Set in Cappadocia, Turkey, the film begins at the start of winter, ending with a hotel blanketed with snow with the weather running its course in tandem to the evolution of human relationships and the resentments that follow. A class defined tension exists throughout the film with Aydin, the central character, representing the inability for the injured egos of the remotely rich and successful to not only connect with those deemed inferior, but with the world around them."

I read it's 3 hours and 15 minutes, is this one of those ultra slow movies were not much happens like The Turin Horse or The Tree of Wooden Clogs? I love art flicks but I do like a story that perks my interest, example Blue is the Warmest Color was 3 hours but it wasn't a boring movie.

yea. it seems like a punishing art house film like The Turin Horse which I haven't been able to go through but I will. It's different to that film though bc I heard the dialogue scenes go forever so that's another hit on the film for me because if i have to choose no dialogue or loads, I usually prefer the former. I also gave his Once Upon A Time In Anatolia film a couple gos but i haven't been able to get past the hour mark because I've fallen asleep by then but then again, I've always tried to start to watch it late at night. lol

It's tough and a bit of work to get through, but it sticks with you in a strange way. But please don't compare it to The Turin Horse just because they both appear to be 'slow' arthouse films. The Turin Horse has about 5 minutes of dialogue (more like monologue actually) and is a brutal masterpiece. This one makes The Turin Horse seem like a walk in the park, because it's not easy reading subtitles for over 3 hours, especially when the dialogue is rich and deep.

you're going to have to prepared for it for sure. the dialogue scenes i heard go on forever. Also, I heard from some critics that it's not his best work. Apparently, his best are Uzak and Once Upon A Time In Anatolia.

Oh ok. As I haven't completed watching any of his films, I was only going by the Guardian critics as well as the general critical consensus. I will make up my mind when I finally see them. :)

No, it worked for English. But this is about us being part of the story. And Turkish is far too far removed from our culture. Never before have coupling and social relationships been treated so subtly. Let's take the vf as a welcome intellectual rapprochement.
