I have the flu and just laying around and turned this on and while I am not interested in eating right now, it calmed me into resting and sleep was needed. YOU didn't put me to sleep, you calmed me. I had to back it up and watch it. I just love these videos. I don't like fish but love dates. Mom always made a cookie with dates and nuts in it (walnuts) and I am going to make that this week when I get better. thank you, it is truly a blessing to watch something from good people

thanks, they made me go to doc and this is day six and they said do what I am doing, home canned soups/herbal teas and rest...and don't go back till Friday at work so this has been a doozy...but turning the corner on it. Unfortunately hubs is coming down with it now. I was forced to get a doc note. I think if we didn't push this doc note stuff, wouldn't spread so much, because I was there for my routine blood labs and around lots of coughing people two days before I cam down with it. So copay later and no meds just my homemade soups and teas to cough at home. I was well stocked with canned soups. And had homemade frozen bead in roll form that I took out and thawed. Did not have to make hubs forage for food with my pantry in place. Another preparedness tip if ever, when you aren't up to cooking.

OOooh and there it is! I LOVE that! Your cabin is wonderful. Nice fish chowder and date squares, coffee and tea....and pancakes in the morning! And that lovely stove and the bio bricks. I bet that's so cozy getting to look out at all that winter beauty. Thank you for that pleasant video. Well, some hate winter, but I love it! Even if its bitter cold out, I still enjoy it. Oh, and guess what? My seedlings are coming out nicely! I'm shocked. I haven't managed to kill them yet. That's huge for me. Thank you for the growing tips. Hi Dale. What a thoroughly nice channel! You have such a relaxed attitude and presentation style , a voice like warm treacle, and a lovely little cabin. "Slow TV" at its best. This is the second time you have popped up in my recommended viewing, and I'm glad I took the recommendation. If you ever get a chance to try fresh dates, prepare for ecstasy. They are soft, sweet, and gorgeous. I am gifted with a small greengrocer's shop, just around the corner, that sells them. I live on the coast, and used to fish a lot when I was young, and agree with you 100% about haddock and pollack. Whiting is another greatly underrated fish. Most of our catch is exported to France, where it is rightly recognised.. Best wishes from the UK, and thank you for sharing your "night out" with us. I look forward to watching more of your videos. :o)
@DaleCalderCampobello
@DaleCalderCampobello 6 жыл бұрын
Thank you I've heard of Whiting but I have never seen it here. Fresh dates do sound very good. Somewhere in my travels I walked under a date palm and there were dates on the sidewalk, Spain maybe.

I just happened upon your channel. Nice channel. Your video seems to be simplex and straight forward. Seeing you peel the onions and potatoes bring back a great deal of memories. I love your instructions. My brother has been a vegetarian for over 50'years. He is fish occasionally. He gets anemic and the fish keeps his iron levels up. My daughter is a vegetarian and is heading towards being a vegan. I applauded her and I am doing well well the change over. God bless. Thank you for sharing.

Great video as always, Dale. Put me into memories of my Grandmother and her date pinwheel cookies from 50+ years ago. Now i need to dig out her recipe! Brazilians have a term, "saudade", which is a longing, somewhat sad but somewhat wistful. Thanks much for the saudades! -Scott

I wish I had some fish right now lol yes, in New England, we would have sautéed the onions (plus carrots and celery) with bacon. And I might have used half-and-half... heavy on the black pepper... I wonder if you have ever tried the bar recipe with figs...

I read an article by a doctor years ago who recommended tart cherries for gout and arthritis. Montmorency tart cherry juice is also effective. I have rheumatoid arthritis and I find it helpful when I have flareups. I always enjoy your videos. Next shopping trip, I'm going to pick up some haddock and give the chowder a try.

Awww, what is better than the glow of that sweet stove fired up, and the aroma of onions! Lol! Warm, cozy, curled up with a warm tummy of food, a good book, a blanket, and a sweet pup! What a dreamy day Dale! God has blessed you with the ability to create a lovely environment During the harsh winter months. I love it when the birds look in the window, like you said, they are watching the gentle soul within the cabin, the one with the seeds!! Ahhhh, life is good. Blessing friend. ♥️☺️🕊🙏🐥🐥🐥💨💨💨💨

That looks like a beautiful; stove but I think if you want to cook on it you will need to order it with the built in cooking spot. Some models are designed so that the top surface doesn't get hot enough to cook on. Something to look into anyway.
@greenghopper

They do sell a cooking plate which, according to the sales rep, you can cook directly one (example..burger, grilled sandwich). If you want to cook in a pan or a cast iron, you can forego the plate. I'll have to see and learn how it handles.

Loved watching this! My chowder includes celery and I've always used whole milk. I will remember to try condensed milk. I guess the closest to your date squares I've ever made were actually similar but made with honey then more or less stuffed in a biscuit dough. Kinda like a stuffed biscuit of sorts. Still delicious! Yours look tastier! Beautiful weather. I really miss it. Thank you for the vid.

I think you ill find that the condensed milk makes it creamier don't use very muck water when cooking the fish and vegetables just enough to cover them.

Hey Dale. Back in NJ, we used to go to the Jersey shore and back there, the best fish was deep sea caught bluefish or mackerel. The flat fish were usually called flounder. The doormat sized ones were called fluke. In Lavalette NJ we fished off the piers and caught baby bluefish, called snapper blues. They were caught by the bucketful and frozen. The whole fish was deep fried, even the heads. We grew squashes and fried the batter dipped flowers in with the fish. Oh, happy days.

Love fish chowder and make it very similar to yours! Fish Chowder happened to the favorite of the late JFK even more than New England Clam Chowder. I use wild caught cod for my chowder since Cod is so prevalent here on old Cape Cod. Have you ever had New England Boiled Dinner...that's any kind of your favorite broiled fish, boiled potatoes, steamed cabbage and steamed carrots, butter, salt and pepper to taste. Very simple, inexpensive and healthy. Similar to Irish Corned Beef dinner only with fish instead! Stay warm and enjoy as always~ thanks for sharing life during a typical N'or Easter!
