wonderful video, dale! the soup reminds me of my dad making his "stone soup" aka soup with all the leftovers from the fridge. he would tell a story of how stone soup came to be. a man wanted to make soup but didn't have anything to make it with so he got a pot and some water and put stones in it. he would stir it and make yum noises and people got curious as to what it was. he said it was stone soup and how good it was but it would be even better with some onions- and then someone would go fetch some onions! and then someone would say how good carrots would be in it, or barley, or meat and then add all those to the pot! and voila! stone soup! a clever and sweet story of sharing what one has with people who don't. what an enjoyable video. here's hoping angel recovers nicely too!

I do so enjoy the videos from the cabin, especially when it is windy, rainy, or snowy! Here in Maine we can buy a mix called "15 Bean Soup Mix", which has lots of types of small beans, plus lentils and split peas. Makes a great soup, though I usually add some canned ham. My mother always made baked rice pudding, with raisins, so it was more like custard, but either way is delicious. If you like baking British things, try making Eccles cakes. Hey Dale, I hope you are well. I took a nap sort of by mistake yesterday. I was just going to stretch out for a minute and the next thing I knew Four hours had passed. I got up about 12:30 am. I decided to go to Walmart to pick up a few last minute items. Then I came home and started removing the ham from the bone of a ham I had cooked yesterday for Christmas. I decided I was too lonely in the kitchen so I put this video on and watched it and several other videos of you cooking. You really are wonderful company. Thank you for sharing your life with us. I just watched your Christmas video. It was so beautiful. The tree was stunning. I love the candles and the candles in the window. I love all that snow. As you know I’m in Alabama so we will most definitely not have a white Christmas. That cranberry sauce was gorgeous. I so appreciate you hauling everything you own out to the cabin. I know it’s a lot of work. Something strange just happened. The video changed while I was writing this to you. Oh well. I love getting to hear where the Christmas tree as Christmas decor came from. I had no Idea it was Queen Victoria. Really great. It’s funny how adamant certain vegans and vegetarians are about who is and who isn’t a real vegetarian. Ok I’m going to hush and go try to sleep for a bit before going to church. Please take good care of yourself and have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.💖

Your body was telling you that you need a rest I have done the same thing before. I was amazed that Walmart was open in the middle of the night. I hope you have a very Merry Christmas too.

I so enjoy "visiting" you and Angel at the cabin and getting some ideas from the wonderful winter comfort food you prepare. I haven't really cooked for years and am trying to get back into it after years of TV dinners and take-out meals. I'm wondering if you would talk about how you care for your cast iron. I have picked up a few pieces at yard sales and flea markets, and some are well used and need care, but I'm clueless about that. Would you mind address this in one of your upcoming videos? Thanks so much for this latest post - so enjoyable to watch. Kelly

Thank you Kelly. I have never restored a used cast iron piece but there are many youTube videos on how to do it. With all of mine after I wash it I put it on the gas burner and watch it until it is dry them shut off the heat and wipe a little olive oil on it with a paper towel.

Just discovered your channel. Loving your videos. I too am a huge reader, I never watch tv, and have been cooking and baking from scratch for many many years. I'm dying to try the Scottish brown bread! It looked delish and so much quicker than waiting for risings. I so want to cook that meal tonight but sadly we are in the middle of a heatwave here in Australia. I grew up in NY and Boston in the 1960's and early 70's, and I so miss the four distinct seasons. Angel is gorgeous!

I have the Yorkshire Teatime Recipe booklet, as I lived three years in West Yorkshire. I love the Yorkshire Curd Tart recipe! Baked at gas Mark 4 :-) So much fun to try all these dishes and deserts.

thank you, Dale! I watched this while preparing our supper and did enjoy the company! Hoping Angel is well on the road to recovery! PS growing up, Mom served rice pudding, well laden with raisins and spiced with cinnamon, hot from the oven with a dash of cream over the top! I could almost smell it cooking!

It was good to see sweet Angel again. I'm sorry she has pain and I pray that she will soon be much better and back to running and adventuring again. Give her a petting and hug from me! I love Veggie Soup and homemade bread. Thank you for the video Dale. Stay warm and safe Patricia

Your day at the cabin was very productive and delicious! I will try your rice pudding receipe that is one of my favorite deserts. I love the soup pot. By the way Biscuit is a household kitchen staple in the USA. Hugs and kisses to Angel, I hope she feels better. Thank you for sharing. Pat from Connecticut. 🇺🇸🚐

Oh, I did enjoy this video and the food is to die for. The rice pudding looks wonderful and I will be making this tomorrow. Dale, you make cooking look so easy and I always have to try one of your dishes. One recipe, the Scottish Cookies, using a mold, you got from a friend, has become a standard treat in my home. I make them nearly every week. Hope to see you soon!

Hello there, just found your site and have subscribed to it. Nice to get some Canadian content for a change. Love the stove! I just purchased the very same model last fall for my cabin. I have only used it a few times as yet but just love it. Not quite sure where you are, my cabin is in Ontario close to Algonquin Park. Lovely area. I am going to enjoy catching up on your site. Anyway, take care, Sandie.

Thank you Sandie I've had the stove for a couple of years now and I love it, expensive for such a small stove but a case of you get what you pay for. I'm on Campobello island in the Bay of Fundy, NB.
