Bait fishing for bream along the Onkaparinga River in Noarlunga is a reliable way to quickly get your friends and family hooked onto fishing. Beautiful scenery, a comfy chair and cool drinks can really make for some great times.
Fishing wise, bream are aggressive little bottom feeders who certainly won't turn their nose up when offered some fresh bait. Vending machines around the rest stops and car parks along the river offer some top quality baits for anyone interested in wetting a line.
Bream fight hard and age slow. Release as many as you can for a brighter fishing future here in SA.

I would list my gear like usual but there is really such a large range of what is suitable for this sort of fishing, both in price point as well as performance. Go with your gut and see what's available!
Have fun!
Rods: I suggest a 5ft4in - 7ft rod anywhere around 1-8kg
Reel: A 1000 size reel is more than enough line capacity for estuary fishing of this sort.
Line: Sturdy 10lb main line in either braid or mono with some 6lb-8lb line after the swivel or as a leader would be ideal.

The Onkaparinga River in mid-Winter to the start of Summer has larger and less fickle bream all ready to pounce onto a bit of fresh pilchards or prawns. The formula is simple, put together a running sinker rig ending in a size 6 or 8 suicide hook and you're all set. Fish bite well throughout the day so don't stress too much about when the best time to go is. Sometimes the scenery is its own reward.
I highly recommend buying a ready-made tackle box specifically for targeting bream or estuary fish which would include all your terminal tackle
The legal limit of Southern Black Bream in South Australia is 10 per person measuring more than 30cm from the tip of the snout to the tip of the tail.
