Lars, I'm a grandma who has been watching your videos for almost a year. My grandson is quite the adventurer. The husband and I have been taking to state and national parks since he was old enough to walk. Your videos are a blessing. You give us ideas all the time. As for your not so nice people...My father taught me to eat raw bacon when I was about 5. I'm 51 now and weigh 137 lbs. You can eat anything you want as long as you are active. God Bless you, and don't let negative people sway you. Your channel is excellant! Don't change because of negativity!

Lynn Kunkel, when you say , "I am a grandma" which I see a lot, that just tells me you are probably at least 30 yrs. old or older. As silly as it sounds, your suggestion to keep a bag inside your mess kit to transfer all the other items inside to when in use is a great one! It's such a simple idea I never thought of it. Nowadays my German (Austrian?) mess kit houses a bag of buckwheat, a bag of tea bags, hot cocoa mix, a towel, and a bottle of dish soap. However, I usually just wind up cooking stuff or boiling water in my Swedish mess kit because it only houses the Trangia stove and a alcohol bottle. (When I'm camping out of my truck) I need to be on the lookout for a nice cloth bag... I don't know why, but tea tastes a lot better in the woods than it does at home.

My wife always used to bring packets of buckwheat back with her when she visited her family near Moscow but now most of the big Spanish supermarket chains sell it. She has introduced me to the porridge (grechnevaya kasha), really good stuff, it's nice to know that survival food can be enjoyable to eat as well as keeping you alive. I really like the cooking in the forest videos, I prefer that to a barbeque in the garden any day.

The spiral worm is known as trichanosis worms. The best way to avoid it is either use commercial grown pork or the other way is wait for a few hard freezes before going boar hunting. The sick hogs tend to not be able to survive the cold and die off. This rule works well for rabbits as well for toluremia.

Hi Lars. I remember when I was a kid and we went to Boone, Iowa for a family reunion breakfast in a big state park shelter house. For some reason, on the menu was buckwheat pancakes. I never heard of buckwheat, or buckwheat pancakes, and certainly never tasted them before. I have to say it was a revelation. Not really like the first time I remember having chocolate brownies or strawberry shortcake, but maybe say like having good baked beans or similar. Anyway, I ate a ton for a little kid. So 50+ years or so passes by, and I decided I had a hankering to try some buckwheat pancakes again. I was too lazy to find some and make them myself, so I started looking around at local restaurants. Do you know what, Lars? There's only one place in a town of 160,000 people where a person can get buckwheat pancakes, and they come with blueberries inside, and they will set you back $20 for a plateful. WTF?! They were still as delicious as when I was a little kid, though.

Can listen to you talk about buckwheat all day! :-) You've got me onto it and its awesome! We can only get straight raw buckwheat where i live, but its great all the same. Your drink bottle there, i've got exactly the same one. I fastened a stainless steel hose clip around the throat of mine and in my bottle pouch i always have some stainless steel wire so if required i can hang the bottle from the clip over a fire for boiling water. The wire can also be used for a snare if required. Just another boiling option if its easier in the field to hang the bottle than try and ballance it off to the side. The hose clip is exactly the same stainless as the bottle too so it doesn't react or rust etc...

It is funny, that even though one knows it, that you KZbin channel presenters are talking to cameras, one can almost forget it, when seeing the videos. It sort of feels, like maybe not a Skype conversation, but slightly in that direction. Then when one see a video, with two KZbinrs together, talking to their respective cameras, and you see the other one doing it on the footage actually, it stands clear in a more specific way, that OHH yes. That is how it really looks like. Just a person talking to a camera. That is how I feel about it at least, but nice cooking in the snow. Snow is always nice, and the buckwheat goes along when cooking, :o)

remember you can eat the inner bark of birch bark and pine bark it contains plenty of calories to keen you going eat raw, boiled, dried and crushed made into flat breads , roast too and I'm pretty sure you have plenty of birch and pine trees in Russia
@SurvivalRussia7 жыл бұрын
You can, but it's only something you can use for stretching your existing supplies with. Inner bark is not enough for extended periods of time. Somewhere I have pics of Russian villagers who lived off inner bark in the forest during WW2. Not a pretty sight for sure.

Great video with good lighting. It looks like a very nice day out in the woods. I was wondering, could a simple led headlamp be usefull as a video light if you have cameras without a video light? You can attach the headlamp to the side of the cameras with some velvro. Even at daylight, when you have a backlit scene, a lightsource will improve the lighting considerably.

I have never heard of buck wheat till I found your channel Lars, I found some roasted buck wheat at the local shop which specialists in European food, lots of memories from when i was a kid, anyway I found buck wheat an interesting taste not bland, but it goes go well with pork meat, goulash and packet soup. I say buck wheat is more of a filler food which gives you more protein when added to other tastier food than just eating it by its self even though it can be. Nice video.

Its expensive here in my part of the US because it's not common and I had to buy it in a pound package by a hipster type food company. I get more fond of it with each meal I prepare it in. Oh yes, forgot to mention, I cook it on a propane stove. I have found it cooks quicker if soaked in water for a few hours, although I am not sure if this is a good idea for field rations as it may not keep long. Although in winter it should be OK as it would freeze?
@SurvivalRussia7 жыл бұрын
You can actually let it soak for 4-6 hrs, depending on conditions, and it will be ready to eat without cooking. Less taste though. Anyway, the boil time is 10-12 min on a low/medium boil with lid on :) I just carry mine in a bag and boil when needed.
