Great winter update, Chris! I didn't know Modelsvit released a 1/48 scale Ascender kit. I'd love to see a short review of that one. Funny how we've both got triple 1/72 scale F-14s to build. I have the same Academy one, the FP32 Fine Molds one and the VF-41 Black Aces GWH one. You can never have too many Tomcats! I'm with you on building ships. I have a few in the stash, but no idea when I'll get around to building them. Harry's doing an amazing job on that Airfix St. Louis build. I've been watching his progress and he's turning it into a real stunner! I hope you have a great vacation with the family and come back all recharged to build more great models. Love your work!

Being a diseased Shermanaholic, and having built two of Ryefield's M4A3 76 (W) HVSS kits (with two more in reserve, including a full interior one), a word of warning when you build yours--the instructions tell you to use 76 track links per side, when 79 is the correct number. If you obey the directions, the tracks will be too tight.
@beckersmodels3 жыл бұрын
Great advice Steven thanks very much will note it! I think I need to do a Sherman Firefly too, the one that knocked out Wittman's Tiger (and three others....)
@stevenfox74073 жыл бұрын
@@beckersmodels Ryefield's is the best Sherman V C Firefly (M4A4) kit out there, and easily available. Asuka/Tasca's is also good, but can be hard to find. The later revised Dragon one is also good, though the directions can be a pain at times and is getting very hard to find at a reasonable price. Dragon and Asuka both also did the Sherman I C Hybrid Firefly (M4 Composite hull) as well. Dragon did a third Firefly--Sherman I C small hatch (early small-hatch M4)--again, getting hard/expensive to find (like all Dragon M4s) and none of my books on M4s have any photos of such a vehicle in British/Commenwealth service; there is one (poor) photo of one of them in US service immediately post-war fitted with an M1 dozer blade. I'd recommend getting the Ryefield Firefly. And also consider Meng's two M4A3 kits--the M4A3 76 (W) and the M4A3E2 Jumbo; two more excellent kits overall.

One aspect of this hobby that never ceases to amaze me is just how diverse everyone's interests can be. I've seen folks build every variant of the F-14 and iterations of every unit they flew in; and, there's folks like you- little bit of everything under the sun. On a side note, if you want some inspiration for ships (although I don't think the builds are quite up to Houdini's standards), I'd check out Amegraphy. Although he tends to work with 1/700 IJN stuff, the videos are pretty inspiring and might spur you on for your current naval projects (or inspire new ones). Cheers.

Following up on your model wishlist, I am surprised that there has never been a kit of the AVRO LINCOLN. There have been conversion kits many years ago but nothing else. I wanted to build the Aussie version but this now seems impossible as conversion kits for 1/72 Lancs are impossible to get. The Lincoln was produced in considerable numbers as well as being built in Australia. As a Heavy Bomber fan, I find it strange that with all the various little known aircraft being being produced by companies, the Lincoln has not been considered. An aircraft that first flew in 1944 and served until the 60's, and did war service, it has been forgotten over more glamorous aircraft like the B-29 which was problematic from its introduction and had a relatively short service life. Anyway, good to see Aussie model site as I came back into the hobby after 30 year Hiatus and boy!, has it changed. will follow your exploits. cheers.
@beckersmodels2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Rusty - its a good question about the Lincoln. As far as I know, Amodel do make a 1/144 version of it, and yes, theres a 1/72 conversion from Paragon and Flightpath - that one is available from David J Parkins in the UK. Hope that helps, cheers Chris

The SBD is said to be a really awesome kit. With it's vintage date, I'm a little doubtful of that, but I get it from multiple *serious* scale guys here stateside. I'm sure that they mean overall dimensions and shape more than fit and finish. In either case, I've got it, too so I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with her. And, of course the CH-53 which is always a crowd-pleaser. I haven't searched your channel yet, so if you've already done a review video on it, give me a steer to it, please, but if not, I'd love to hear your thoughts on the Bandai "Perfect Grade" Millennium Falcon. Yes, I've read through multiple build threads on LargeScalePlanes that the Trumpeter SBD is a fantastic kit, only let down by the recessed rivets, instead of raised - but that's solvable in a way! I have not yet reviewed my PG Millennium Falcon, its another one of my "dieing to get to this one day megakits", like my Felixstowe, 1/200 Yamato etc. I've got three more 1/144 versions to do, then I will tackle the 1/72. It needs no review, its just a magic kit from start to finish, check out ModelChili Scale Models for his superlative build videos. Cheers, Chris

I see the Bandai Star Destroyer up there on the shelf - what are your thoughts on it? IMO, its too small and from all the builds I've seen, suffers from significant light leakage. I have been building and detailing the Zvezda SD for the past 3, nearly 4 years. Yeah, it has no where near as much detail as the Bandai kit but its in a much better scale Enjoy your holidays!

G'day Chris, I see you wrapped up wearing the New Zealand 'Airfix' T-shirt. My partner is a Kiwi and that's how she said 'Airfix' many years ago, soon after we met. I thought it was hilarious, only a matter of time before someone did the T-shirt... YES, I know the motivation behind that spelling has nothing to do with the K1w1s. But, if I wore that T-shirt to NZ, no one would lift an eyebrow. Now, I'm not a ship modeller and I marvel at how Harry Houdini is fixated on the St. Louis. It was actually Harry's outstanding build of the Kriegsmarine Schnellboot S-100 that made me reckon I should have a whack at a boat. Proving that I'm obligated to it now, only yesterday, the Artwox wooden decking turned up for the Schnell Boat. Again, I saw Harry use this product on one of his boats and I thought, gee, I reckon I can do that... in a moment of esoteric madness. Now I have to walk up that 'gangenvay' and prove that I can do it. I've only got 3, now, 4 builds underway. I'd try your method but I'm such a procrastinator, and with my memory failing, I'd probably never get back to them. Anyway, Chris, I hope you and your family have a great break; funny how Tasmanians get up to Queensland during your winter (when they could) yet you residents take your winter to the next level and go somewhere truly tropical. Take care, come back with an envious tan (and a finished kit ha...ha), Cheers, BH

G'day Malcolm, I've got a couple of M1A1 Abrams kits and I found it really helpful to Google up the Aussie tank regiment and pick out some of Army's bigger colour pics. It seems that most of the Abrams use some kind of similar pattern but I found if you look closely enough there are variations between individual vehicles. I wouldn't stress out on it too much as long as you get the colours right. There is a paint company that does modern Aussie camo colours only I can't recall them. BNA and ScaleMates might be a good place to look. Cheers, BH
