Congrats on 13K! I have been in a bunch of crazy storms. I was in the UK late 1995 and early 1996 on a vacation. I was trying to get back to Philly around the 5-7th of January, and couldn't when 31 inch snows in Philly and the big snow shut down everything on the east coast. I ended getting the last seat on the plane out to Chicago...business class thank goodness! Had to spend 2 days in Chicago before the airport in Philly got opened up and I could get back. Second storm was the Perfect Storm 1991. I was visiting my fiancee at the time in MA---they closed everything down including driving back to my home in CT. Third storm, was Sandy. I was a courier at the time and had to go from Boston to Chicago. I was told to go to Cleveland instead---and I watched the water come out and over road from Lake Erie. I get back from that delivery and then had to take equipment to help responders in NYC. Never saw anything like the drive down...not a soul on the Henry Hudson Parkway, which is usually a mess. There are few more but those are the top 3!

Definitely the Blizzard of 78. My husband and I lived on the west side of Indianapolis and could see I-465 from our apartment. Trucks were buried up to their doors. People were snowmobiling and cross-country skiing on the interstate for several days.

You should do a video of 1948. 100 inches of Snow, it covered five States. PBS on South Dakota TV had a one hour show, covering that Storm. Worth watching. 👍 "The Blizzard of 1948".

I was too young to remember the Blizzards of '78 and '79 so I think the Blizzard of 2011 is the one that most stands out in my mind likely due to its relative recency as the Blizzard of 1999 wasn't quite as memorable. Overall, the early 2010s were very stormy around Chicago starting with the 2011 storm and capping off with the Super Bowl Blizzard of 2015.

Trav- Great work! For snow lovers and ski enthusiasts, ever consider periodically providing an update on weather forecasts for the ski areas in Europe, for instance, the French Alps?

I live in Northeast NY and I can think of 2. One was the snowstorm we got in I think 1989. It was in October and we still had leaves on the trees. Trees broke and we had power outages everywhere. I remember we also had a major storm on Christmas Day in about 2000. We got over 2 feet.

Winter of 2009 -2010 here in Hanover Pa was the most snow I can ever remember -Dec19th 2009-we got about 20”, then several little storms, then we had two 2 ft plus snowstorms within 5 days in early Feb. Plus it stayed really cold.

February 14th-16th 2021 Chicago. The official snowfall for Chicago was 7.5" observed at Chicago O'Hare International Airport. Much of the city of Chicago due to lake effect snow and enhancement to the snow, did see 12-18" Chicago saw nine consecutive days with measurable snowfall from February 8-16. This ties the previous record for consecutive days of measurable snow set February 3-11, 2018. The 34.1" of snow that fell in Chicago from January 26th through February 15 marks the snowiest three-week stretch since the winter of 1978-1979. The groundhog Day blizzard of 2011 was pretty good too.

Could you do a tutorial on the maps you use? I get the snow and rain maps. But..is one upper level winds? You circle areas and say "storm" But I don't fully understand. And then the next map with primary colors...what do tgey indicate? Would make watching video a little more interesting/fun.

When are we going to see the first big NorEaster of the year? I remember the one Maryland got back in 2009/10, or was it 10/11? Regardless, we had those three massive snow storms that winter. If I recall two the same week in December and then one several weeks later in January. ❤
