Winter Worries: Impending Concerns for Ukraine's Civilians

As Ukraine's civilian infrastructure, water systems, and power grids come under attack, what consequences can we expect? How will business, hospitals, banking systems, transportation, and education be affected in the short-term? How will this affect Ukraine's government, economy, and morale in the long-term? Most importantly, what can be done to help? Ambassador Daniel V. Speckhard, president & CEO of Corus International, who just returned from a trip to Ukraine, will provide his insight into these critical questions.

Ambassador Daniel V. Speckhard is the president & CEO of Corus International, an ensemble of organizations including Lutheran World Relief and IMA World Health. A former U.S. Ambassador to Greece and Belarus, Amb. Speckhard has had a long and distinguished career in government service under both Republican and Democratic administrations. His previous positions have included serving as Deputy Assistant Secretary General at NATO and Deputy Chief of Mission in Iraq.

Sean R. Roberts is a Professor of International Affairs and Director of the International Development Studies (IDS) MA program at The George Washington University’s Elliott School of International Affairs. Both during the completion of his PhD and following graduation, he worked for a total of 7 years for the United States Agency for International Development in Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, managing democracy, governance, and human rights programs in the five Central Asian Republics.
