Hi Dave, great family Video. Funny how your footage tugs a lot of memory strings, as mine also, to the mid 70’s at Swan Reach, where it took only a bar of soap for stubbie sized yabbies! Starting with a bar of soap in the shrimp net………shrimp on the hook…….then carp in the yabbie nets, which were thrown into the back swamps, being a 50mtr walk from the main river. We were never disappointed, especially our parents, who by the 3rd day telling us to start throwing them back. It was then chunk of carp on a string, until went tight, retrieved slowly then scooped up behind them. It sure was a healthy river system back then, can only imagine what feast for families it would have been generations before🤔. Wouldn’t it be fun to make a ferreting video for Prairie Chicken (Rabbits), but I’m sure the backlash would be too overwhelming! Keep it in…..and keep it up 👍🏼 Cheers

G'day Kevin, gee you have brought memories back for me, I can relate to every thing you have said, I did visit the Murray river with my parents early 70's I can't remember where we were but I remember the water being clear and I could see quite large bonny bream swimming around when they came close to the bank, my dad caught a nice one course fishing with a float and a small worm he dug next to the bank its the only one I've ever herd of being caught, did you ever catch one of them? the shrimp use to blow bubbles from the soap never tried it for yabbies. I found a ferret once he was smelly and white yellowish I called him Brian my dad use to take him ferreting and use to do well its something he did on his own, yes imagine the comments after seeing a screaming rabbit, Brian got the hearts and livers he loved them. Thanks for the comment Kevin enjoyed that mate.

Great video David. I took my daughter fishing when she was about 6. She caught a small trumpeter, which she gave to the cat and has never been fishing since. At 41 she has no children and probably won´t, so no grandchildren for us unfortunately.

Family fun - reminds me of the 80s and good times with my grandparents in Scamander, Tasmania, catching crabs and pretty fish for bait then converting them into solid bream. Sadly, life these days has become far too fast-paced and tech driven for my liking. As stated on numerous occasions, love your videos, David, your depth of knowledge, willingness to impart it on others and your overall respect and appreciation for nature.

Thank you Frank always nice to hear from you mate. Life has changed big time. I won a holiday to Tasmania a few years ago in a fishing competition and the wife and I loved it so glad we have been there, thank you for your kind words I do love nature I guess thats why I Breed maggots....... Cheers and all the best.... David

Beautiful video mate!! We've had the Opera House nets banned in the ACT. Interesting that some places are allowing them still. Some nice times with the family. Had a grin on my face the whole time.
@davidsheldonfishing97263 жыл бұрын
Thanks mate, it was good fun as always with the kids they do make you laugh. Its interesting you saying about the opera house, I was going to say something about them I will next time because I found one a few summers ago in a dried up dam and there was 6 dead scrub wrens inside something you wouldn't imagine unless you saw it. Nice to hear from you again mate and stay safe.

@@MaluHunterFishing yes it was disturbing, and thats nice to hear mate, I shall pop over and check your channel out later. Yes go yabbying the place we were yabbying is a spring ground fed water it never ever dries out I think the water maybe a bit warmer, maybe better places to try winter time. We are in lock down now too so I might end up doing a yabby catch and cook its walking distance from my house....Cheers mate.

My 6yr old is chasing me to take her yabbying in the same creek near the house I grew up in, she is persistent and when this rain drops off we will go for it. She wants to experience part of my childhood from her grandmothers home that she never met. Mum passed with cancer when the child was only 4 months old, but strangely I see a lot of Mum in her character. She will have a ball with string, meat and a net. 👍

Hi pendo pendo, that sounds nice going yabbying with your daughter and sharing your memories from her grandmothers home also seing trains of your mother in your daughter is nice. Yes both of you will have a great time yabbying with the string and meat and a net I am yet to do that with my grand kids something else to look forward to for us. The yabbys may be slow moving but I have heard rain excites them but I'm sure it will be fun trying. Nice to hear from you and say hello to your daughter for me all the best.....David
