Good video I love to see the side by side dyno testing

what a great video, a fair amount of work on your part we appreciate it. not much separation in power but now we know pretty cool and every bit helps in the end. I liked just seeing what was done, curious what they flow on a bench and if they are all just as close.

Would have been cool if you also threw in a stock untouched intake just to see

What are the engine cubic inch and specs is it like a stock eliminator engine

Love the channel Jordan, Just for fun someday it would be interesting to test an old edelbrock C 454 for the dominator! I have one that is unported but the heat risers have been welded shut, And before everyone gets on me the C454 is a copy of the factory 1969 L88 /ZL1 but cast for the dominator and yes the plenum divider is also chopped out.

The limiting factor is probably the short side radius and bowl profile of the head. Getting the correct venturi in the bowl and the correct shape of the short side radius is key for air flow and power. This can be extremely hard to do on a vintage head without tons of welding and porting.

Amazing how similar the intakes performed. The slight differences were pretty far above peak power (you barely touch that rpm level just before the shifts as you said) to the point I doubt you would see any performance difference between them. It’s always good to know stuff like this!

Thanks. Nice to see the test.

Thanks for your reply and experience, I was just eluding to the fact, that the hood being closed and the air cleaner base insalled may have skewed your tests. I own a 1969L88 since 1981. I also had 69L88 Coupe for 4 years 1984 to 1988. I also have an 1980 bodied Corvette SCCA Trans Am car. All of these cars have been down the Drag Strip, 2 autocross, and 1 only on the road course. All3 have, had, the L88 air chamber hoods.😊

It would have been cool to put a stock intake non ported to see the difference. Great video

Now that was informative! Really makes me wonder if the carb is the restriction in that scenario. I know you're limited on things based on the FAST series.
@HorsepowerDepot6 күн бұрын
Exactly why we did this test! We’re going to try to figure out how to get more out of the carb next!

I'm curious about your L88 air cleaner, as I found the screen was short enough to make the little lid cap an air flow restrition on 427 to 440 BBC, that made 600 to 655 HP. Building a new screen 3/4 inch taller.brought back the power, but won't package under OEM L88 HOOD.
@HorsepowerDepot6 күн бұрын
Raising the lid cap will make more power, but just like you said it won’t fit under the hood. One thing I’ve learned though, the cowl induction works well at high speed. My 67 has a factory air cleaner and mesh screen. It trapped the same mph in the 1/4 as a 69 making the same power but with a taller hood and screen. So on the dyno yes it makes less power. On the track, it might not be as beneficial.

Testing it the closest as possible to how it'll be ran down the track is what makes sense imo. Maybe there's a small ram air effect that can't be produced on the dyno, but otherwise it's pretty close to how the car actually makes a pass.

We’ve got a big fan that’s controlled by the dyno in front of the car. Moves 60mph air.

Any idea on how much HP a bone stock untouched manifold would kill?

A few years ago we lost 30 hp with a port matched intake. It was installed on accident.

@@Soundman61 That's not really relevant to a stock appearing high horsepower build.

You cleaned the plugs with each run. A vacuum pump doesn't add horsepower, it's not a turbo
@HorsepowerDepot6 күн бұрын
A vac pump does increase power. We will make 20hp with the vac pump on.
