Kai is playing 4/4 against 6/8 in many parts of the song. Creating interesting tension between him and other players. Also,he is following what the guitarists are playing + some odd meter patterns here and there. He is awesome and very musical, composed drum parts himself. There is master class/tutorial video online where he explaines few licks he did in this song.

Tracks* Jari mixed each part of the song separately, and instead of automating stuff he created new tracks for each part. At no point in the song are all of the 1500+ tracks playing at once. A very rough estimate would be to divide those 1500 tracks by the number of parts in the song (I haven't counted, but lets say it's 20); that would put the average number of layers in each part of the song at 75.

actually many parts of the song are 4/4 (drums) against 6/8. and lots of odd rhythm sequenses in between. you should check Kai’s tutorial/master class video of the some drumming parts of this song. Amazing anyway. Love Kai’s musicality, he wrote all the drum parts himself to this song.
