The great thing about Wintersun is that they have the heart AND the technical proficiency. Their song *"Winter Madness"* has what's generally agreed to be one of the most amazing neo-classical guitar solos of all time.

They only have 3 small albums but it's a real treasure. You're gonna enjoy all of it! If you like the black metal side of their music, you should react to Eternal Darkness (Autumn). It's as dark as it can get, but in the Wintersun's unique style. The song is about autumn in Finland (which is very dark) but also about the passing of Jari's father. It's written from "Death's" perspective.

you have to listen to the "Forest seasons" from them, the album is just 4 songs, 1 for every season. It is all made by Jari, the singer, he wrote the lyrics, the music and he recorded every instrument, except drums. Nice reaction!

its nice you got the Ensiferum connection - Jari was in the band in their early days. Wintersun is so unique in their music - which is why i think they are great - they dont hold to a particular genre

Hey man, great reaction! Wintersun is one of my favorite bands, their first album is worth checking out as well, e.g., Winter Madness. Also I'd like to recommend another band that I think you will like if you enjoy this type of music - Ne Obliviscaris. They're an Australian progressive black/death metal band(with a violin). They toured together with Wintersun and I've been blown away by every one of their songs. The one I'd particularly recommend would be Devour me, Colossus (part 1)

Glad you enjoyed it! Check out immortals other project Demonaz and also immortal is phenomenal (albums heart of winter, sons of northern darkness, all shall fall). Jari is very unlikely to sound much different considering that he had half a lung removed after he contracted TB during his National Service. As you mentioned Nightwish I presume you realised that Kai Hahto, shown here, has been their drummer for the last 6 years. Also of interest is that the bass player has replaced Marko after his departure.

Sorry for my English, I use google translate. I became interested in metal in the late 80s, when the Bathory got to the USSR and since then I have been following the genre. During this time and through countless bands, I found only 4 bands in which I like every single song. These are Wintersun, Moonsorrow, Summoning and Windir. And if I was making a list of my favorite bands, these four would never make this list. Because for me they are out of rating, for me they are the Gods of Metal.

Hey despite growing up in New York i was born in Russia in Pyatigorsk. So if its more comfortable you can write it in Russian. But i have heard Moonsorrow before a long time ago. Never Summoning or Windir. Bathory is a true classic and innovator especially with Twilight of the gods album!

Да, у Bathory этот альбом и Hammerheart мои любимые. Summoning- это атмосферный блэк-метал , все альбомы посвящены и вдохновлены Средиземьем Толкина. А Windir -это викинг блэк метал с фольклерными элементами. Почти все песни написаны на родном диалекте основателя и исполнителя песен Валфара. Песни отличаются от традиционного блэк звучания, и поэтому это направление стали называть с подачи какого-то журналиста согнаметал, по названию места, где родился Валфар. К сожалению они успели выпустить всего 4 альбома и пару демок. Группа распалась из-за смерти Валфара в 25 летнем возрасте.
