Great review, thanks. I have zero doubts it will be a magnificent album, I ordered both the Time package and the physical CD already. Funny that you refer to Loneliness as the best track, for me it is one of those I like less even though I do like it as pretty much anything Jari did. I would say for me 'Time' and 'Sons of Winter and Stars' are the best tracks but it depends of course on one's personal emotional association as you said. Lyric wise I can associate the most to 'Starchild' and 'Sons of Winter and Stars' so far. Let's see if it changes with Time II.

Good review as always. And my hype for this album has reached its peak when I saw this review. But I do have one question: Since Japanese traditional music use Japanese pentatonic scale a lot. (for example the Japanese song "Sakura" use this scale). But all the oriental melody parts we have in TIME I and some solos in debut are written in Chinese pentatonic scale(for example the Chinese song 'Mo Li Hua'). Did Jari use any Japanese pentatonic scale on TIME II?

Technically, melodically and atmospherically Time II is really perfectly done. Unfortunately, I can't help myself, but the Japanese influence just doesn't suit to the whole Wintersun concept. I simply associate Wintersun music with the Nordic nature and, of course, mainly with Finland. However, putting that Asian aspect aside, it's really a well-made album, but I guess I'll still stick with the older albums which fits my "Wintersun mood" better.

It's not actually "melancholy", if you will; but more like "in-depth". For example: Moomin character Nuuskamuikkunen / Snufkin (Atos Wirtanen was his real life model) stares at fire. Finns individually need the time of their own time to time. It is somehow hard to explain. But you WILL become a Finn when you move here and stay long enough time

It's a great album. Great epic tracks filled with some of the best guitar work ever recorded. I really don't like the ultra compressed snare sound, though. Same snare sound we find on a million technical death metal records nowadays...

The Way of the Fire has great parts but is too busy most of the time. One With the Shadows is my favorite Wintersun song ever, this is what I hope Jari will do in the upcoming albums instead of this insane soundwall all the time. Storm was great live, but it's too busy on record unfortunately, although I love the lyrics. Silver Leaves is pretty good and it's great to hear Jari singin in Finnish for the first time since Lai Lai Hei with Ensiferum! The overwhelming soundwall is great when it's used sparingly but I really love the simpler, yet complex songs on the self titled album and The Forest Seasons. The album wasn't a dissapointment to a fan who's been following Jari since Ensiferum, but I have different preferences.

Feeling a little sceptical after this review. People are expecting a second TIME album but is it too detached from the first one? I heard in a recent Jari interview that he’s focusing more on clear vocals for example. He said that when people tell him “this doesn’t sound like Wintersun” he sees that as a positive. There aren't that much clean vocals. THere are lots of blastbeats, there is a mid-tempo song and a slow-tempo song, but it's mostly heavy. Yet again, it's not nearly enough material for an EP, let alone an album.

Any big Wintersun fan that claims they are "blown away" by this release or that it is a "masterpiece", really has their expectations bar set really low. I am a big Wintersun fan. And after hearing this album 3 full times, it is obvious to me that they just put out a safe release that sounds like more basic versions of their earlier material. Sure, they are amazing musicians. And they play their instruments at a high level here. I am not disputing that. I am saying that their/Jari's song arrangements are super basic here and we have ALL heard the same style and melodic choruses before. One With the Shadows has the same slow emotional clean vocals like Jari has done many times before. It's basically a recycled EP that Jari stretches out the same riff and tempo the entire song. Very few tempo changes here. And super long Intros and outtros to help this EP become an LP..... Nice album, but easily their weakest of the 4 releases. My expectations bar is not set so low - 7/10 rating!

Am I the only one who thinks the production/mixing of this album is bad? The drums are so overpowering and the vocals are very low in the mix. You can barely even hear the damn vocals at around the 2:40 mark in The Way of the Fire. Everything just blends together at certain parts and makes it sound like a wall of noise. It’s really bothering me because I love the album! I just find it very disappointing after all of these years. You can tell a drastic difference in the volume of the vocals in Time I compared to Time II. Oh well, it seems like I’m in the minority on this so maybe my ears are just shot lol

You”re not focusing on the lyrics at all, and that is important , if not the most impoortant element of this album. You have no clue about what the lyrics mean on this album....you”re only focusing on the music and the transition between songs....that honestly every single person who knows Wintersun , can understand. You seem very philosophical about this review but honestly,,,yuu have niothing to say !!!!
