Actually at first India was pretty pro-soviet so yeah, it's just politics, at that time Nixon being friendly to China was actually more possible because of the Sino-Soviet Split and would pose much more of a threat since China is right at the Soviet border. She asked COAS to address Pak Army on the All India Radio , assuring humane treatment if it surrendered. Had such assurance been conveyed by letter, it certainly would not have been believed . This assurance on AIR was heard by the entire World and was now binding on India. This resulted in Pak Army lowering resistance to surrender, more so as Seventh Fleet had failed to arrive in time in support.

Ussr just helped India when USA tries to enter war personally. They holded them, as ussr is nuclear capable power usa thought it will be disastrous for them if they enter war. But usa, arabian countries, Iran , srilanka and China helped pakistan supporting them financially, with equipments and with providing staying stations. This is the best documentary I have seen on the 1971 indo-pak war. No politics, only facts. 👍👌 One major point missed by the media and authors on this subject is the magnanimity shown by India. Having won the war, India did not annex East Pakistan even though it was once a part of India. India gave the country to Bengali Muslims. This generosity has gone unappreciated. As a student of History, I don’t find any parallel to this magnanimity anywhere in the world.

We Bengali didn’t liked British oppression, they wiped out, East & West Pakistan got independence, then India. The golden jubilee of independence of Bangladesh, the 50th Victory Day, the most precious day of the Bangladeshi people as the country was liberated from the Pakistani occupation forces on the day 50 years back 1971 after a nine-month-long bloodstained War of Liberation. The absolute highest respect for all those who have sacrificed their time and/or their very lives. No greater debt of gratitude could there be than what is to be freely given to those that have allowed us to enjoy the immeasurable benefits of being free. May God (to whom we are dependent) bless each of our freedom fighters and this beautiful Nation. Words are not enough to express the gratitude I hold in my heart for our veterans and freedom fighters. We will never forget the ultimate sacrifice given by our brothers and sisters. Remembering our fallen heroes this victory day. Never forgotten! To be quite honest, we are not bothered by Pakistan. The country never was a major international power nor has it any considerable impact on a global scale ever. Pakistan is now considered worst than the third-world countries in Africa. I just hope that our country doesn't become a terrorist, semi-war zone like Pakistan. We don't have the time or energy to waste on matters that don't concern us. Other than that, I'd like to say that people here in Bangladesh have a very negative perception about Pakistanis. The Independence of 1971 was a glorious chapter in our history. But it came at a huge price. Over 3 million Bengali’s were killed. The amount of blood spilled by the Pakistani army is unforgivable. And that's precisely the reason why Bangladeshis will never forgive Pakistan and continue to distrust Pakistanis. It is very difficult for us to become Pakistani friend. We see Pakistanis as an impulsive, unpredictable and irrational people. Their actions don't seem logical to us. One of the major reason the 1971 war broke out was ethnic racism against Bangladeshis by Pakistanis. They still time to time tease Bangladeshis for being ‘blackies’, ‘midgets’, ‘Hindu like’ Muslim etc. All these are offensive to Bangladeshis but still there are huge number of Pakistanis who simply view Bangladeshis as ‘Indians in disguise’ and not ‘true’ Muslims. This is very offensive as Bangladeshis are very proud Muslims who are also veery proud about their Bengali culture even if Pakistanis term it as ‘Hindu’ culture. Pakistanis are the most conquered people among all South Asians and that's probably why they love to associate themselves with their conquerors. But Bangladeshis are extremely proud of themselves. We believe in the right to maintain everyone's cultural purity and self-identity. It was a huge mistake on our part to become a part of Pakistan in the first place. We could've done much better if we became Bangladesh in 1947 instead of 1971. We could've maintained a healthy distance from a nation completely different from us in their cultural outlook yet maintain a warm diplomatic relationship. Our relationship is anything but warm. Let's be honest here. We can't stand each other. Our relationship is extremely cold. I don't see any change in our relationship in the near future. It might even take a century to melt the ice. So yes, whenever you see a Bangladeshi smiling towards Pakistani or making a normal, nice conversation; don't mistake it for a genuine friendly conversation. We are just being nice. But deep within we have deep resentment towards Pakistani. The best option is to avoid us. And if any Pakistani ever thinking travel to Bangladesh then watch your step and your mouth. You have entered the Royal Bengal Tiger's den! Be careful what you say and try to conceal the fact that you're a Pakistani. Whatever I say is the brutal truth. You Pakistani might not like it but the facts are what the facts are. This is the best advice you'll ever get. And I'm putting things very mildly here. Let’s refresh our memory a little bit of our history, more than 3 million people get killed, thousands of woman raped, West Pakistan looted most of East Pakistan income and invested in West Pakistan, suppression in our mother tongue Bangla. May the Darkest HELL reserved for the people of Pakistan who killed and raped my countries people. Finally we expressed our gratitude to India and the Indian Army for their support during the 1971 liberation war and termed India as Bangladesh's true friend. 🇧🇩🤝🇮🇳

Only Regret i have is that, Our Govt that tym let the Prisoner of war without proper investigation.. Akash Mendon Yes. Indira Gandhi blundered. (but may be America was hovering above !). Manikshaw was right. No war between two countries remains so between them two. All big countries will be drawn (armed or diplomatic) into the conflict & the two who fought, might have to give up some. This is international politics. It is the reason why USSR put the time limit of 2 weeks, before the UN SC is scheduled to meet. Our Army achieved that too. In modern times planning a war, may have to take these extraneous factors (that might weigh heavy) too, into consideration.

@@laughtale1181 I'll let you know a secret. My belief. USA & USSR were at Cold War for 45 years or so but never confronted each other with arms at any pace. The only one (the world is aware of), the "Cuban crisis" got defused in no time. They had the first "hot" line for Communications. Petty wars in newly independent nations ("Third World" by definition) were proliferating, meanwhile. It was good "Arms" business for them both. Both Arnies were play-acting down to the last trooper, being orchestrated from the two capitals. In 1971 Decemeber, it was the same play-acting in the Bay of Bengal, with dominant USSR. It was USA's half-measure action. Imagine a Kushti(wrestling) match between India & Pakistan that can lead to death even . Kushti involves "applying" tight grips over the other that he can't wriggle out of. In this match, both got terribly, badly intertwined that one of them thought "I can't win. I'll do this something (foul)" & plucked the other's balls. They released their grips then & got untangled. Then the fouler who thought he plucked the other's balls, found his missing.
