Moab has been there a long time. The first real hair raising thing I did , at 19, on leave, driving back to Camp Pendleton from small town VA in my brand new 1991 Jeep YJ Islander , red w/ charcoal black top and trailcloth interior and AC, traclok, 3.73 with a 3 in shackle lift and 33-9.50 BFG ATs and was planning to stop and camp in MOAB. I get there at night, planning on a 1 night stay, having no idea what i was going to wake seeing in the morning. I went nuts. Drove out to town, got some breakfast and this really cute ,18 year old freckle faced waitress, told me about Lions Back and pointed to her ridiculously cool pepto pink with a white top 1982 CJ 7 sitting right in front of the window and said, it's easy, I do it all the time. I will even take you out there while showing me the tourist thingy. Well, who would say no to that? Not me because she was single and way too cute to say no to. She said I get off at noon, so meet me here and we will go. I goofed around, for 2 hours because it took me 2 hours to eat my pancakes, and we went. We met this old lady about 50 ish at the time and she was in a freaking willys. I went no way. Up she went. Up the cute waitress went and there I was, pacing, swearing and ahhhhh screw it. Up I went. Coolest and scariest thing I had done 2nd only to becoming a Marine at that time in my life. Worst case of butterflies I have ever had even to this day. Saw that waitress a few more times and never saw her again. Point to this story, ? Something about a stock jeep or Blueberry pancakes and this cute freckle faced waitress pepto pink Jeep and Lions Back. Brad, what was the question again? ( mumbling while walking to the garage to look at old pictures) what was that girls name, what size tires did she have on that Jeep again, what was that girl's name, I remember that like it was yesterday...blah, blah Stock Jeeps can do stuff. Brad's Jeep can do more stuff. Jeep Stuff. That is a t -shirt.

I wouldn't worry about damaging the body panels, they will corrode within 4 years because every hinge is bare aluminum under them. The seam sealer is also applied directly to the aluminum. I have a constant supply of warranty work on these. Not to mention the hinge bolts are steel and the hinges are aluminum. A primer and stainless hardware would solve all the jeep corrosion issues. Every time you apply the brakes, steel dust goes everywhere, including between the small gaps at the hinges. Jeep luckily covers 5 years back unless you got the extended warranty then obviously longer. It's a full repaint and I've yet to see a jeep have matching paint between the metal, plastic, and hardtop so when we do them, they match much better. The windshields are also corroding and the fenders on occasion. These jls will not last like my 97 has.

@backwoodstherapy
@backwoodstherapy Жыл бұрын
You can do Moab on the stock 31s. You just can't do every trail. You don't have to have a one-ton axle swapped beast on 40s to have fun. A mild lift, some good tires, go out with a group in case you need a tug, and have fun. Quadratec took a stock Sport on all seasons to top of the world last year and that's a 5/10 rated trail.

@Backwoods Therapy I mentored the one tons coz that's my final version of my rig lol. I'm a damn good driver and have taken it up some gnarly stuff already even tho I've only had my own 4x4 for about 2200 miles. I grew up in rural Arkansas learning to drive in dirt mud and gravel roads lol. Right now it's sitting on a Rubicon Express 4.5in in lift kit, Tom Woods custom drive shafts, sye kit. Trailforged crossover steering with heim joints and a spartan rear locker....and I got a gang of other stuff I need to install like the Ironman rear shackle relocation kit coz the lift spring packs are way shorter so my shackles are vertical . It's gone everywhere I've wanted to go including up the side of a mountain driving within 100ft of an abandoned gold mine we found on Google earth, something I learned the hard way, when you climbing your first hill with your family and it's really steep and rutted and the right front tire lifts up a few feet.... your girl says I hope we don't flip..... don't laugh and say ya me too. I was joking but man she flipped out lol

@@autotek7930 that's awesome. I've been more conservative with my JLU Sport so far. Willys takeoffs for wheels, spacers, 2" spacer lift, 35x11.5" tires, Rubicon rock rails, and that's about it mechanically but it does what I ask it to do. Hoping for a regear soon and then after that I'll do a proper suspension lift once my stock springs and shocks wear out. That plus some high clearance fender flares and I'm not sure if I want to do a Dana 44 front axle swap or just do some chromoly axle shaft upgrades and eventually put 37s on and maybe an elocker in the rear. But that's years away. I want to keep it forever since it's a manual.

@Backwoods Therapy I'm in love with my xj lol. I only did all that before I drove it coz it wasn't drivable when I bought it. It was a compete basket case when I rescued it from the youngins that had it. The day the engine died my 3 year old cried coz I didn't take him to his grandmother's house in it. I don't think these things will ever be "finished" do you post videos? I'm about to try my hand at this youtube thing and I didn't even record at all today when I removed my intake in preparation for porting. I Am realizing it's gonna be a ton more work to film.
