I'm finally on the way to the hardware store and remembered to pickup sum eye bolt tensioners. I've needed a tool like this for a long time. When out in the field cutting with oxy / ace torch you're gonna pop a hose. Anyone who says its carelessness or they'd never do it hasn't been working around heavy equipment. Anywhoo it sux when you pop a hose but when you realize that you're out of $.39 cent hose clamps you're shut down. Plus hose clamps catch on everything and makes you have to climb up and down many times a day to untangle the clamp that catches. I realize that if I'd of bought the "Real" hose tool thingy that it would have paid for itself "BUT" I dispise extremely over paying for something that I can make for near nothing.

This is the best copy of a ClampTite hands down. It functions exactly the same and is nearly identical in appearance. I made one too! I'm not sure of the size you used, but I used a 3/8" turnbuckle. I made two changes; 1) I added an acorn nut on the end for looks and comfort, and 2) for the encapsulated slider nut I used a square nut instead of a hex nut. It's a little wider and therefore helps with the encapsulation. Also it gives you a flat side to drill through for pinning.

This looks like a great idea! I have a shop made tool made from a mending plate & an eye bolt but this design looks like it would be much easier to use. I already have all the parts laying around so I'll be making one straight away. I'm thinking an eye bolt will work fine for the twisting handle with the bonus of being able to stick a screwdriver through it on days the arthritis is bad, lol. Thanks for the brilliant idea!

I made one of these using this guide the other day. I used an M6 (or 1/4" depending on where you're from) Turnbuckle and a piece of round bar I had laying around. Drill a hole through the round bar and tap with an M6 thread, this way you can make the handle as long as practically useful for extra leverage. Also if you use a long M6 socket head Screw (100 mm or more) you can put the wing not on to use with your hands, or in tight spots you can use a drill with a long socket head driver on it. You could also use a hex bolt, torx . etc. Sorry forgot to mention, in the one I made the tensioning bar is threaded and moves up and down the thread, not as the design above where the wingnut pulls the tensioning bar up.

The trick to making money is don't over price your product. Otherwise you will loose all of your customers . If the original tool was $5 everyone would run down and buy one and would not bother trying to figure out how to make one for yourself and all of your friends . Well anyway here it is great job dude.

steve knudsen , correcto mundo! No way this tool is worth the $40-70 price tag. It's a very clever tool. I would have loved paying the inventor, but I couldn't justify it in my mind. So I made my own. Two for $12.

Curious about the pins in the nut. I wouldn’t think an epoxy or press fit would be strong enough. Did you weld it? NEVER MIND, I just realized the pin goes all the way through the nut and the threaded rod. For some unknown reason I thought the nut needed to rotate on the threaded rod. (Wrong!)

Love your idea. Only problem is the thing used the crap @#$%! tension device seems to be made from zinc metal with steel filings inside. Cause mine i secured in vice to remove the eye with thread part and only turned to a point by hand so i used vice to grip and then pliers to turn the eye. Not even 1 full turn i hear a sound. 1st i see ok its bended , its steel so i will bend it straight again but no upon closer inspection the bloody thing broke!!! I will use something that i know is steel inside and outside. The tension device is defently not just steel
