I’m an aircraft mechanic, and flew with pilots on both small Aeroclub aircrafts and 737’s. Just flying the aircraft isn’t that hard. Taking off requires a bit of training and reflexes, landing even more, but what gets is all the other tasks you must do. Navigation, communications, checking the instrument, weather forecasts, pre flight plannings, route mapping, remembering to check all the instruments. It felt as an hassle just being on the jump seat, can’t imagine doing it myself.

Last year, I happened to meet a former F-14 pilot who now flies Boeing 777s for a major U.S. airline. He was inspired to fly after the original Top Gun and he didn’t think he would be able to be an F-14 pilot. He really loved what he did! At some point, he was ready for a new job and decided to fly for one of the airlines flying passengers. He was super humble to the point where he paid for my hotel bus fee even though I told him he didn’t have to. He embodied the best of what the U.S. Navy has to offer!

@@brendan7632 The F-14 is indeed classified as a "full size" fighter, both in weight and in linear terms. In linear terms only, it's roughly the same length as the F-15, F-18 SuperHornet and SU-57 (both seen in this movie). It's a bit shorter than the Russian Flanker series, which are huge.

At about 5:30 you’ve basically inferred that the F-35 has thrust vectoring which is incorrect. The F-35B nozzle rotates downward for STOVL but it is not vectored thrust. Neither the F-35A nor F-35C nozzles rotate. The F-35C, operated by the USN, has larger wings and landing gear but again, no thrust vectoring.

The Darkstar does indeed exist. It’s being (as far as WE know) referred to as the “Son of the Blackbird” with its actual name being “SR-72 Darkstar”. It’s 98’ long, with a comfortable operational ceiling of 80k feet (though I’m sure it can go higher), as well as bolstering potential Mach 6+ speeds. It was initially developed to be a UAV with the same missions as it’s predecessor, the SR-71 Blackbird. But that’s legit all us normal folks know about it, or think we know.
@Teampegleg
@Teampegleg 10 ай бұрын
The "SR-72" is a design proposal that Lockheed has been pushing for a decade now, the DOD largely appears to still be on the fence. I think that the mission that Lockheed is going for, ISR over denied airspace, has largely been handled by the X-37B. Which being an orbital vehicle isn't violating anyone's airspace to collect the intelligence.

I got to load armament onto fighters, specialized in 16s, but also loaded on 15s, 10s, and 22s. There's a reason they didn't feature a 22 in that movie, itd have ate everything up with ease. That thing is a total monster...straight out of every opposing pilots nightmares, there's nothing they can do to avoid a 22 deciding to end them. The SU-57 is similar to the 35 but it's not actually a STEALTH jet, it's low visibility, very different. Which is why a skilled 35 pilot could take one down fairly easily and why a 22 would absolutely curb stomp it

@@uorsoyes...the tactical knowledge that comes with actually helping train the AF version of "Top Gun" at Nellis is "New Star Wars fan level". I'm saying in real life the Navy would've made a call to AF command and requested some 22's to either do the mission run for them or provide safety for the exit. Honestly they'd probably just use drones so there's no risk at all to our pilots for the actual run itself. The hamfisted Yada Yada in the movie wouldn't actually fly. What? You think in reality everyone is just giant waterheads and would insist on doing it themselves in inferior equipment? No, that's wish fulfillment, in reality you use the best you have available and if you don't have it you ask another branch for it. AF provides the 22s and the pilots of them and not too mention all of the more sophisticated surveillance for accuracy.

@gamm8939
@gamm8939 Жыл бұрын
5:26 Sorry that is absolutely wrong. The F-35 doesnt have thrust vectoring. The F-35B can rotate its nozzle to land vertically, but the nozzle doesn't move to make the aircraft turn faster, it actually doesn't move at all with on the F-35 A (Air Force) and F-35C (Navy). Also, "many fifth generation aircraft are their own strike package" is also just a weird statement. First of all, the F-22 can basically do nothing but air superiorty, so his point about being able to do everything is just not applicable. Then there is also the fact there arent really any other 5th gen aircraft. Neither the SU-57 nor the J-20 are actually in use or mass produced.

- "the F-22 can basically do nothing but air superiorty" It can carry 2x 1,000 lb JDAMs. Last I checked, JDAMs are bombs. The F-22's radar and passive sensor suite (AN/ALR-94) can make it function basically as a mini-AWACS. So maybe is can't technically "do everything," but it can do stuff most others can't.

Good analysis, until you misidentified the capability of the F-35's engine "nozzle actually moves to make the aircraft turn tighter in a turn circle and also to fire off weapons." Worked on the F-35 test program for over 15 years. No, the engine nozzle didn't move to make the plane turn tighter. The nozzle on the F-35B did rotate down in the jet borne flight regime mode (i.e. vertical maneuvering). In the up and away mode, the nozzle was fixed aft. The rest of his F-35 analysis was spot on. Also, great comments on the other aircraft, although as a Tomcat pilot, the truth is always a bit hard to endure.
