I’m sure the audible level of sound effects in different genres is very intentional. Even in this video you can see that they mixed the sounds at quite different audio levels, and the results sound great, so they know what they’re doing… My hunch is that in action/thriller movies everything is louder (both sound effects and music) to get the viewer into a state of semi-panic, fear, or at least a high degree of alertness.

There are several people in the comments that didn't understand as to why Foley artists are a thing. For one, getting the perfect sound for the scene without any background noise or unevenness is much easier when you just have a Foley artists with a bunch of props on hand. Plus, there are scenes where, honestly, you quite literally can't recreate in real life for sound. And you have to think about the fact that using actual sound may be too loud and play over the voices. With Foley artists, they have an array of props and they have the sound equipment on hand so they can get perfect or near perfect sound effects without interrupting any dialogue or ruining a scene.

I didn’t think I’d sit thru this whole video but i was wrong. Very cool and interesting. The things you can use to recreate sound, but you got to have the ear and creativity like her to accomplish it. Loved it

Watching her create the sounds for the GOW scenes was so amazing. I played that game so many times now & it matched it so perfectly. She definitely knows what she’s doing & is passionate about it. I’ve never really thought how they make the sounds too much, but, this makes me wanna learn about it way more

Wow, moments of this gave me the chills. She's so impressive. Idk why but I figured with technology and all, that those sound effects were largely digitally manufactured somehow. This is so cool.

So that's how it's done eh? That's amazing. The sound effects are so real and in tune with what's happening. Timing's gotta be on point too.

Foley is such an amazing art form. Most of us look at an object and think of it's uses as it was intended. Foley artists look at it and see the dozens of sounds they can get out of it. You have to train your brain and your eyes and your ears to see the world in a very unusual way. So cool.

Foley seems like such a fun, interesting job. I like how the genre of the media actually plays a part in the sounds you make for it, that's something I wouldn't have considered. I would have just assumed you'd be matching sounds to what's on screen, not realizing you can creatively interpret those sounds a bit differently to give different moods.
