My Titan is rate for something like 9000lbs BUT it didnt come with a tow package so the aftermarket Curt hitch has a 6000/10,000 weight distribution rating.. my reciever is rated at 7500lbs.. From what Ive heard you always go by the lowest number of whatever component so Im wondering if i can buy a hitch rated closer to 10k lbs without weight distribution to get closer to my trucks max town cap... I dont tow hardly ever but doing quick math if i had a full size car/truck plus a trailer id be close to or possibly over the limit of 6k without a weight distribution. Id like to be setup to where if I had to ai could tow closer to that 9k and not be handicapped by the hitch rating.. The question arose because lately i was thinking about possibly buying a 1/2ton project truck and then considering the weight+a 2000lb trailer id be close to or over the 6k limit of the hitch.

I just bought my 2022 Ram 3500. The old hitches I used on my 1500 won’t work with my new truck. So I was looking at these adjustable hitch heights. I have three trailers and all three have different heights. When I don’t use my hitch I put it away. It’s a pet peeve of mine and I know some of you folks have had your shin or knee meet someone hitch that sticks a foot from the truck. So I store mine away. What is the reliability between aluminum and steel?

We're the same. Lots of different trailer types, so the adjustable hitch and various ball sizes have been a huge plus for how we operate. I've personally owned both aluminum and coated steel. Both work well and are highly resistant to corrosion. My personal favorite has been BW steel hitches. Made in America, build quality is exceptional, as is the adjustment mechanics for hitch height adjustment, ball swapping (easy head rotation), and stowing position. I also regularly "invert" the hitch to adjust it higher with high-tongued or heavy trailers (to keep the trailer level even with significant suspension squat). - Ryan

Great info. I have a question not covered in vid. Receiver mating tolerances. How much movement in the insertable part is ok? Some clunking over bumps and changing speed is normal or not?

Good question Danny! A little play between the hitch and receiver is normal. Just make sure to follow the manufacturer specification so you're sized appropriately and you'll be good to go.

I actually did some research and saw there was an 8000/12000lb hitch for my truck so i went ahead and orderee it.. Some of the weight distribution receivers cost as much as just buying an upgraded hitch so that's what I went with

A little play is perfectly normal, we have the same with our trucks.

Get a hitch stabilizer. They go for about $25 and definitely quiets the ride.
