Plan on doing this for a wireless mouse and keyboard, I'll just put a QI wireless receiver into the USB C port and mount it to the rear. Thanks for this!

That paper trick for testing the allowable charging distance is a really good tip! I've been wondering how to figure that out since chargers vary so widely.
@camshand2 жыл бұрын
I owe that one to snazzy labs, I remembered it after seeing his wireless charger video. Its a handy method for sure

dope video! If you're planning on doing this, I'd suggest getting a top bearing dado bit. that way, once you're done making your shape, you don't have to worry about the shape anymore and can just run it along the bearing on the outsides and nibble away the center for each pass.
@camshand2 жыл бұрын
I have seen them! They're probably the next bits I need to buy for future projects especially if they're viewable routes

Yeah I've had a couple traditional wireless charging pads, but I like to keep my phone just out of sight, or else I pick it up for every notification 😂 however don't think everyone will get taking a router to their desk and making a mess like I did haha

Yeah that's be a good idea, just a cut out where you could mount your own. Especially as they advance in wattage overtime you can upgrade it :)

Great idea. I'm about to build a custom desk myself after have horrible luck with the Secretlab Magnus. Looks like you have the IKEA hack desk, but you actually had the desktop attached to the cabinets? What hardware did you use and how to you go about doing that?
@camshand2 жыл бұрын
Oh it just sits on top, I took the 4 black plastic feet that come with the IKEA ALEX drawers, drilled holes ontop of the drawers and put the feet on top to give a little spacer between. As for the benchtop, it's not from IKEA, they overcharge for their SOLID wood tops, go to Bunnings or a hardware store and they should have cheap SOLID WOOD kitchen benchtops. These wont sag, and like in the video, can be cut or routed to your liking :)!

Great video! Can you use a normal drill to make the hole?
@camshand3 жыл бұрын
Kinda haha, you can look up Drill Router Brackets, there's a few things which will allow you to use a standard drill. I think the benefit of a plunge router is it's speed, it's really going when cranked up. But I don't see why a hand drill with the right attachments couldn't make it work, will just take more time, precision and patience to achieve a the same result :)

In what wood is your desk? Walnut?
@camshand Жыл бұрын
Its an Acacia panel, they sell them in the kitchen area at Bunnings in Australia. Best value Solid wood tops for around $60, could try with a veneer panel and scrape out the infill, but a solid wood benchtop would be the best option if doing it. However to be honest, I rarely use the charger as I now try to keep my phone away from reach when working to stay focused haha. But it's a neat trick

Does these overheat and use power when is nothing on charge?

Naah, the coils aren't on at all when on standby, there's only a LED light showing power, but will go from green to blue on the unit I have when it's actually charging 👍

Yeah I should upgrade to the wireless version of my G502, and get rid of cables, just the simplicity of them always working no matter what has kept them on my desk for now haha.
